Do you rcall~ that the only pert'ormlng artlstB, p Ia y I n g without pay or tutor, around this part of Lincoln County are a group of musicians whose

No symphony, no chorus, no theatre, no ballet, no concert scl'ics, no art collcctJon, none of these things exist here.

We do have dlvcrsil'·ns, not the least being the tire alarm nnd mad drulh of the big truck, and such occasions as when the • shel'itf people were trying to corral a load of winos and they ''l'Pt running out the front door a11 fast as the uhel'lff could pour them Jn the rear door.

«Ki_ng ·. of the Roail" Truck Drivers

The average automobile weighs slightly Jess than two tons. The average loaded truck weighs under 40 tons. Driving these vehicles requires training and skill. But what training and skill are needed to drive a loaded truck weighing nearly 140 tons?

The Chino Mines Division, which is converting part of its haulage systems to' the big trucks capable of carrying a paylottd of 85 tons, has the answer: Start with inexperien~d tru~k drivers and provide five weeks of concentrated training.

For the iirst week, the drivers attend class~s for $everal hours and then work six. hours with experienced drivers in the field. ·They learn operational <:baract()ristics o£ the 100 h.p. diesel engine that drives art electric generator . 8ilpplying individual power to the two rear wheels. · .
