Yoga for
Arthritis Pain Relief
A 6 week Series
Tuesday, 10:30am
June 12-July 24 (no class July 3)
Yoga is proven to help people with arthritis help improve many physical and psychological
symptoms. Recent scientific studies with people with various types of arthritis show that regular
yoga practice can help reduce joint pain, improve joint flexibility and function, and lower
stress and tension to improve better sleep.
A lack of sleep and arthritis pain combine to create a vicious cycle. Studies are showing that
people who have not had enough sleep the night before experience all sorts of pain, includ-
ing joint pain the following day.
Stress can make your arthritis pain worst. If you are stressed your overall physical tension can
be greater, magnifying joint and muscle pain.
Yoga can help manage and reduce pain, improve function, increase flexibility, reduce stress,
improve strength & function which leads to better quality of life and overall wellbeing.
So take a deep breath, relax and join us.
Please bring a mat, a towel or blanket and a pillow.

“Walk With Ease”
The Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA) and the Arthritis Foun-
dation (AF) are pleased to announce their collaboration to expand
the Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease Program classes in Wisconsin.
We appreciate your organization’s willingness to consider this very im-
portant leadership role, and we value your potential commitment to
improving he quality of life for people with arthritis and other chronic
conditions. Enclosed is some general information about the Walk With
Ease program and the roles and responsibilities of a program leader.
Arthritis Foundation Leader certification requires two essential steps;
successful completion of the approximately three-hour on-line Walk
With Ease leader raining and current CPR certification. Individuals
who are or become Walk With Ease Leaders in Wisconsin will be asked
to register with the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging, submit Class
Notification Forms to WIHA and administer short pre and post down-
loadable surveys to participants. Talk to Chris if interested in the op-
portunity. Walk With Ease is an evidence based program and would
meet weekly with a group that would walk and take various routes in
Fort Atkinson.

The Link Between Gender & Hearing Loss
It might surprise you to learn there is a correlation between gender and hearing loss. Overall,
men are almost twice as likely to develop hearing loss as women.
Men have a greater risk of developing hearing loss in large part due to their participation in
activities and occupations that expose them to dangerously high decibel levels. In societies
where hazardous noise exposure is not a factor, men and women lose their hearing at about
the same rate—evidence of this link.
Sociological factors aside, biology may also play a role. Across the board, women have bet-
ter high-frequency hearing than men, especially above 2000 Hz. Paradoxically, this ad-
vantage decreases with age; by the time they turn 60, women are losing their low-frequency
hearing at a faster rate than men—a phenomenon known as “gender reversal.” Some theo-
rize this is due to changes in ovarian steroid hormone production, which appears to boost
hearing sensitivity in women prior to menopause.
Because of this reversal, gender differences in hearing loss become much less pronounced in
older individuals.
