Searching the Catalogue? There’s an App for That! Thanks to a new app, you can now search North Vancouver District Public Library’s catalogue using your smart phone, tablet or other mobile device!

The new app is available in three formats: there is an iPhone version (which also works for the iPad and the iPod Touch), an Android version, and a universal mobile web version (which can be used with any Internet-connected device, including Blackberry).

2011 Summer Reading ClubKids are invited to “Savour each word” this summer with the 2011 Summer Reading Club — a program that rewards kids for reading!

Sign up for this very popular program begins Monday, June 13. Kids are invited to come in to their local branch to register and receive a reading record.

Kids write down the titles of the books they read in the reading record, and track each day that they read for at least 15 minutes (or longer!). For every seven days of reading, kids receive a sticker and a small prize. Children who read for 50 days between June 13 and the end of August can chose either an RBC summer reading club medal or a new paperback book as a prize. Paperback book prizes are generously supplied by a donation from our Friends of the Library.

EVENT: Helping Your ExecutorWednesday, June 8 7:00pm - 8:30pm Lynn Valley Main Library

Have you named an executor in your will? Are you likely to be an executor? Executor’s legal tasks and responsibilities can be intimidating, stressful and costly.

At this free presentation, Kevin Holt will offer practical tips on how you can financially and emotionally assist your family after a death, save on estate settlement fees, understand probate and freeze funeral costs.

This presentation will be fun, informative, fast-paced and free of legal jargon.

SUNDAY SUMMER CLOSURESLast Sunday Open: June 12After Sunday, June 12 all locations of the North Vancouver District Public Library will be closed on Sundays for the summer. Sunday openings will recommence on Sunday, September 11. All other hours are as usual.

Friends of the North Vancouver District Public LibraryExecutive Chair

In May, the Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library had another successful book sale! Thanks to everyone

who supported the fundraiser by volunteering, buying books, and spreading the word. Your contribution will help support the 2011 Summer Reading Club, this year’s Halloween Trick is to Read program, and our “Excite Your Library Experience” fundraising campaign to improve library spaces.

Visit your local NVDPL branch soon and take advantage of the new book baskets, donated by the Friends of the Library, to carry your library materials around as you browse the shelves. Thanks to our fundraising efforts we are also delighted to provide book prizes for the Summer Reading Club with a donation of $5000.

Please join us on Saturday, June 18 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the District Library Gallery on the second floor of Lynn Valley Main Library for an art reception featuring artist Richard Alm. This is a chance to chat with the artist, enjoy beautiful art, mingle with community members and enjoy some free refreshments.
