1 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
1.1.1 For coding buildings, structures, systems, equipment and its components in NPP “Kudankulam” project there is applied a unified classification and coding system KKS developed by technical committee of industrialists association VGB (Germany) VGB.
1.1.2 The KKS classification and codification system is a universal system that enables it to identify any process system, facility, structure or component in the process of designing, erection and operation of a power plant.
1.1.3 The «Agreement on KKS codification system appliance in the NPP “Kudankulam” Project in India» (hereinafter the Agreement) regulates activity of organizations involved in development of NPP “Kudankulam” project as for application of the classification and coding system KKS. The agreement has been developed in compliance with requirements of standard regulations for KKS application.
1.1.4 The standard regulations for KKS application are stipulated in KKS documents:
«Guidelines for KKS Application», 4-th version of 1995;
«KKS Application Commentaries. Part A General», version of 1988;
«KKS Application Commentaries. Part B Engineering Discipline-Specific. Part B1 Identification in Mechanical Engineering», version of 1988;
«KKS Application Commentaries. Part B Engineering Discipline-Specific. Part B2 Identification in Civil Engineering», version of 1988;
KKS Application Commentaries. Part B Engineering Discipline-Specific. Part B3 Identification in Electrical and Instrumentation and Control Engineering», version of 1988;
«Usage Instructions. Part B Engineering Discipline-Specific Application Commentaries. Part B4 Identification of I&C Tasks and Functions in Process Systems and of Functions in I&C Systems», version of 1993;
«KKS Keys», version of 1991;
1.1.5 Structure of functional-technological code KKS is addressed in appendix А.
1.1.6 Section 3 of this document «Requirements agreed upon» contains a list of non-regulated by KKS provisions, which is a subject of agreement. This list may be extended if new provisions appeared in the course of work.
1.1.7 Since the full number of process systems, buildings and structures can be known and coded only when the detailed design is finalized this document presents the list of codes adopted at the stage of first-period design works.
The full list of codes for process systems, buildings and structures shall be issued at the working documentation stage.

1.1.8 To meet any additional identification requirements, the KKS codes, or parts thereof, can be combined with other coding systems. This shall be reported to the Customer and all participants of the project in writing.
1.2 BASIC PRINCIPLES AND FIELDS OF APPLICATION
1.2.1 Fields of KKS Application
1.2.1.1 The KKS system is used to identify facilities (process systems), structures, equipment, components and devices in accordance with their purpose, location and installation. This system is utilized in designing, construction, operation and maintenance of power engineering facilities as well as in communication with Regulatory Authorities.
Buildings, structures, functional process systems and equipment, including stationary tools at NPP “Kudankulam” are subject to coding. Boundaries of coding for NPP components are specified by the developer of the documentation.
1.2.1.2 KKS elements are applied to coding the documentation. The Documentation is coded in accordance with R01.KK36.0.0.QA.WI.P002 “Manual on documentation coding of NPP “Kudankulam” Project”.
1.2.2 Basic Principles of KKS
1.2.2.1 KKS is based on the following principles:
uniform identification for all types of power stations and any related processes;
sufficient capacity and detailing for identification of all systems, components, structures and areas;
extension capacity to incorporate new technologies;
uniform identification during designing, erection, operation, maintenance and decommissioning;
applicability in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, I & C and other disciplines with the possibility to identify the items that belong to these disciplines as well as places of installation and location;
consideration of national and international standards;
language-unbiased coding to ensure the possibility of international application;
application of computer data processing.

1.3 PROCEDURE OF PRODUCING
1.3.1 This document must be revised in the following cases:
- at the request of the Indian Customer or the Customer (JSC “Atomstroyeksport”);
- on the decision of the General Designer if there is a significant amount of changes that have to be introduced into the document.
1.3.2 Each of participants of Kudankulam Project may put forward a proposal about altering or complementing the document and send it to the General Designer for approval.
1.3.3Changes are incorporated by the General Designer as per a duly established procedure.
1.4 PROCEDURE OF COORDINATION AND APPROVAL1.4.1 This document is subject to coordination with main participants of NPP
«Kudankulam» Project. The General Designer of the Power Plant specifies the list of main participants coordinating the document.
1.4.2 The document is considered coordinated if no reply is available from the project participants for 20 working days from receipt of the official letter about its direction for approval. The fact of receiving the letter is considered the moment of registering incoming letter in the workflow system of the Project participant.
1.4.3 The document is to be revised and a new revision is to be issued after its approval by the Indian Customer.
1.5 PROCEDURE OF DISTRIBUTION1.5.1 The General Designer of the Power Plant sends this document to the Indian
Customer, the Customer (JSC «Аtomstroyexport») and its subcontractors.
1.6 RESPONSIBILITY1.6.1 The General Designer of the Power Plant is responsible for development and
revision of this document.
1.6.2 The Customer (JSC «Аtomstroyexport») and the General Designer of the Power Plant are responsible for providing their subcontractors with the document.
1.6.3 Developer of particular documentation of Kudankulam Project is responsible for accuracy of structure and coding of KKS.

2 SUBJECTS TO FINALIZE
2.1 The conditions of application are strictly and explicitly covered by the KKS system as a whole and only in particular cases general recommendations regarding possible and expedient ways of coding the NPP components are provided. These KKS regulations shall be mutually agreed between all designing participants which ensures the uniformity of the KKS coding system application, to extend the information content of the codes and will ensure unambiguous understanding of the technical documentation by the Principal.
2.2 The list of codes not specified in KKS and being subject to agreement between all the participants of design development is given below.

General conditions
1 Modification of code titles
1.1 It is allowed to modify code titles provided in the code guide (alphabetic index of KKS) without any changes of the content. Such modifications should be approved by the representative of the General Designer of the Power Plant.
The list of codes adopted in the beginning of the design development is given in Section 4 of this Agreement
1.2 The code of buildings (structures) for two power units is given in the Agreement in the separate names of codes of the functional systems applied for two power units (units 3 and 4), for example:
KTN - Active drainage pipework system (traps) of the 30UKC (40UKC) building (free-flow part).
If the documentation is developed only for Unit 3, the KTN code name indicates only the building of Unit 3, namely:
30KTN - «Active drainage pipework system (traps) of the 30UKC building (free-flow part)»;
If the documentation is developed only for Unit 4, the KTN code name indicates only the building of Unit 4, namely:
40KTN - «Active drainage pipework system (traps) of the 40UKC building (free-flow part)
1.3 The separate names of functional system codes used in the Agreement indicate all buildings, to which the specified system applies (sequentially, separated by a comma), for example:
SMT20 – Electric travelling cranes in buildings 00UTF, 00UTH.
In the documentation is developed only for the 00UTF building, the 00SMT20 code name indicates only this building, namely:
00SMT20 - « Electric travelling cranes in buildings 00UTF»;
If the documentation is developed only for the 00UTH building, the 00SMT20 code name indicates only this building, namely: 00SMT20 - « Electric travelling cranes in buildings 00UTH ».
2 Order and direction of numbering in all numerical code sectors
2.1 The numerical numbering increases toward the flow direction (fluid, energy, data). The following rules are observed in this case:- numbering starts anew, if one of the preceding code elements changes;
- numbering can be inseparable or groupwise;

- numbering can be effected using wrong counting;
- assigned numerical code characters shall not change in the process of designing;
- all zeroes before a significant digit must be written;
- numbering shall follow some kind of logic which can be different for different parts of the project
3 Regulation on application of sector 0 regarding the content, code type (numbers or characters) and direction of coding
3.1 Sector 0 is for belonging to the unit, common-unit or common-station installations.3.2 Coding of Unit 3 is performed with digital symbol 3.
3.3 Coding of Unit 4 is performed with digital symbol 4.
3.4 Coding of Unit 5 is performed with digital symbol 5.
3.5 Coding of Unit 6 is performed with digital symbol 6.
3.6 Coding of common-unit facilities for Units 3 and 4, Units 5 and 6 is performed with digital symbol «0».
3.7 Coding of common-station facilities (for Units3-6) is performed with digital symbol «0»
4 Code writing 4.1 A code is written in one, two, or three lines, e.g.:- in one line:
30JND20AP001MK01;
40JND20AP002;
30CCA03GW001;
30UMA10AB001;
- in two lines:30JND20 30CCA03 30UMA10 AP001MK01; GW001; AB001;
- in three lines:30JND20 AP001 MK01
4.2 When a code is introduced in a programmer product, the code should be written without spaces in compliance with margins used according to the principle 1 code = 1 record. Software products shall contain neither hyphenations, nor «Alt+Enter» keys combinations. If information is not available in the functional process code group A3, this group is replaced in the SPE and on a paper carrier by a space.

5 Application of reserve codes
5.1 Reserve codes may be used:
- upon coordination with the technical committee of Association of Industrialists VGB (such codes are marked in the reference book of KKS codes with words «blocked»);
- upon coordination with the General Designer of Kudankulam NPP (such codes are marked in the reference book of KKS codes with * «free for use»
Functional and process-related codes
6 Application of codes clusters for Process Related identification
6.1 Use of codes clusters is performed in accordance with i.3.1 «Guidelines for KKS Application». Cluster of codes G is applied in accordance with i. 3 of section 2 «Coordinated provisions» of this document. Cluster of codes A3 is applied in case of necessity
7 Application of code F 0 (sector 1)
7.1 The digital group (cluster) F0 uses numbering from 0 to 9. The use of cluster F0 is mandatory:
7.2 For the civil part of the design, the digital cluster F0 is used for denoting the same functional types of buildings and structures.
7.3 The following characters are used in the F0 cluster for the mechanical, electrical, and I&C parts of the design:
7.3.1 the digital symbols 1, 2, 3, 4 are used to denote:- safety system trains and their elements,
- elements used in the trains of the emergency power supply system (EPSS),
- elements that take power supply from the EPSS;
7.3.2 the digital symbol 0 is used to denote:
- elements of normal operation systems,
- elements belonging to the normal-operation auxiliary power supply system,
- NO functional systems,
- Functional safety systems as a whole (for denotation of SS trains see i .7.3.1);
7.3.3 The digital symbol 5 is used to denote elements of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems taking power supply from the normal-operation diesel-generator

8 Application of code FN (sector 1)
8.1 In digital code FN numbering is used within 00 to 99. Examples of possible numbering for thermal part are given in i.1.3.2.1 «KKS Application Commentaries. Part B Engineering Discipline-Specific. Part B1 Identification in Mechanical Engineering».
When writing references in documents (schedules, main inscriptions in graphic and writing documents, etc.) to codes of functional systems, consisting of several numerals (e.g. MKF10-50; PGB74,78), it is allowed to indicated a code with one numeral only, for example:
- MKF10 code is indicated for MKF10-50 code;
- PGB74 code is indicated for PGB74, 78 code
9 Application of code AN (sector 2)
9.1 The numerical code AN is applied for assigning a number to a structure. The biggest number is 999. The numbering of each group starts from 001. In order to extend the information content of the code the first letter of code AN can be attached to the definite types of items, or to have another meaning. Information on application of groups of numerical data characters of codes AN from 001 to 900 is provided in appendix B “Numbering in Equipment Code”
10 Application of the alphabetic code A3 (sector 2)
10.1 Additional group of the alphabetic codes A3 is used:
- for coding double drive of some piece of equipment;
- for coding several measuring circuits with one sensor;
- for coding phases (A, B, C) in the equipment unit code for electrical devices when execution is in phases;
- for further separation of rooms;
- for further separation of lighting system by applying letters of Latin alphabet:
N – operating lighting system;
E – emergency lighting system;
F – evacuation lighting system
11 Application of code BN (sector 3)
11.1 Numbering of parts of assemblies from 01 to 99. In force are definitions i. 3.1.3. «Guidelines for KKS Application». Examples of BN-numbering are given in i. 3.1.3.2 «KKS Application Commentaries. Part A General»
12 Application of code signals X, Y, Z (sector 3)
12.1 Codes of signals X, Y, Z are applied in accordance with Section 4 of this "Agreement…" Numbering of signals for programmable devices is not limited

12a Coding of components in the I&C and electrical circuits (sector 3)
12a.1 “-“symbol is used for coding electrical devices in the component codes (as per KKS).

26 Coding of separate structures combined with a specific structure
26.1 In case of combining buildings and structures possessing their own KKS codes, the combined assignment gets a separate KKS code.
If it is impossible to assign an individual code for these buildings and structures, the code of the top process priority building is assigned to the entire complex. In this case in Section 4 of this "Agreement…" the code should firstly consist of designation of united building and using symbol "/" designation of building, to which this code belongs directly.

The following is used as functional-technological indication:
- functional code of main technological unit, to which cable belongs. The following is subject to coding: generator, transformer, a mechanism and set of relay protection hardware (for instance protection of buses of switchgear 230 kV) or a part of automated control system for technological process. The functional code is assigned to all individual cables, which serve to some technological unit of electric equipment.
- code of installation unit (cabinet, console, panel), say, in case of coding of common jumper cables between cabinets, which serve to several technological units.
In case of coding of cable, connecting two cabinets with different functional codes, the code of that cabinet is indicated, which precedes in alphabetical order.
For cable, connecting two cabinets (which belong to a group of technological units) of the same functional code, the code of cabinet with smaller number is assigned to the cable.
Power cables, feeding group assemblies, are designated according to the code of fed assembly.
Power jumper cables, interconnecting two assemblies with different functional codes, are assigned with the code of that assembly, which precedes in alphabetical order.
Digital part of cable code consists of four digits: NNNN or three digits and one letter: NNNA. For power cables the digital part of cable code consists of two digits: NN.
Digits are used for coding of groups of cables; letters can be used, if necessary, for distinguishing parallel cables and cables, passing from penetrations to the hermetic area. Parallel cables are coded with capital Latin letters except for 'G', which serves to code cables from penetrations to the hermetic area.

The codes of heating, cooling, air conditioning plants, and ventilation system filtering plants, as well as codes of equipment items used as part of these plants are assigned to them as follows:
а) Codes of plants are written in the sector of equipment unit code using the following codes:
1) *АН* with the digital range from 100 to 199 for heating, cooling and air conditioning plants;
2) *АТ* with the digital range from 100 to 199 for filtering plants;b) Equipment items that are part of the plants, except with independent air
conditioners and split systems are also encoded in the sector of equipment unit code with the digital range from 001 to 099 with application of equipment unit codes*АС* and *АН* for heat-transfer equipment according to the following principle:
