1. Purpose of the post

a) To maximise income for the charity through commercial, social enterprise and income generating from new business development.

b) To lead the development of social enterprise and project-manage the business processes /cultural change programme to successfully deliver this.

c) To lead, and work with the Chief Executive and Directorate Team in, the management of change and the development of new business opportunities.

d) To manage retailing and affinity trading activity though Age UK East Sussex’s own independent charity shops and in partnership with Age UK nationally.

e) To act as the Managing Director for the charity’s trading company and work with the trading company’s Board of Directors to develop a business plan to increase profitability.

f) To lead, and work closely with the Chief Executive and Directorate team in, the development and implementation of fundraising and marketing strategies (across the charity and trading company).

g) To work closely with the Chief Executive and Directorate Team in the development and marketing of products and services to individual customers.

h) To lead, and work closely with the Chief Executive and Directorate team in the development of a financial sustainability/business plan across the charity and trading company.

i) To be a proactive/active member of the Directorate Team contributing to the strategic direction and management of the charity, and taking corporate responsibility.

j) To deputise for the Chief Executive as appropriate.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

Social Enterprise and income generation from new business development opportunities.

a) To lead, and work with the Chief Executive and Directorate team in, the development of social enterprise and income generation from new business opportunities.

b) To lead, and work with the Chief Executive and Directorate Team in, the management of business process and cultural change regarding Social Enterprise and Income Generation from new business development opportunities.

c) To work closely with the Director of Services in their lead role in development of income from the sale of charitable services for individual customers.

d) With the Chief Executive and Directorate team contribute to the tendering, commissioning and the selling of services through the provision/development of customer management information and marketing, and supporting the demonstration of value for money and process for pricing setting.

Retail and affinity trading.

a) To maximise profit from the charity’s retail operation (currently this is 3 independently owned and managed shops).

b) To maximise new income generation or cost efficiency opportunities e.g. Bought-in-Goods, stock rotation/management etc.

c) To maximise the exploitation of gift aid within the retail operation.

d) To lead on the integration of the existing retail operation into the charity’s trading company.

e) To provide line-management to members of the retail management team (and other staff as appropriate) in line with agreed policy and practice.

f) To ensure effective working and business relationships with Age UK’s retail operation within East Sussex.

g) To develop affinity trading as a significant new area of income within the Age UK East Sussex retailing and across the charity and trading company.

h) To lead the identification and development of new retail and affinity opportunities (either as independent or joint ventures).

i) To act as the key point of contact between Age UK East Sussex and Age UK in respect of retail and affinity trading

Commercial trading (Insurance and Financial products)

a) To maximise profit from the selling of Age UK insurance and financial products and services through the charity’s trading company (Age Concern East Sussex Trading Ltd).

b) To act as the managing director on the board of the charity’s trading company.

c) To lead the development and implementation of a business plan for increasing profitability through the commercial trading of Age UK products.

d) To provide line management to the trading manager (and other trading staff as appropriate) in line with agreed policy and procedures.

e) To ensure compliance with Financial Services Authority regulations.

f) To support the CEO in their role as Approved Person in relation to FSA regulation.

g) To act as a key point of contact between Age UK East Sussex and Age UK in respect of insurance and financial products and services.

Fund-raising.

a) To maximise income from fund-raising.

b) To lead, and work with the Chief Executive and Directorate team in, the further development of a fund-raising strategy across the charity’s and trading company’s activities.

c) To lead the implementation of an agreed fund-raising strategy across the charity’s and trading company’s activities.

a) To recruit to and provide line-management of a fund-raising/marketing post from 2011/12, until the successful recruitment of a fund-raising manager from 2012/13. Thereafter provide line-management to the fund-raising manager.

d) To ensure that Age UK East Sussex staff and volunteers have a good awareness of fund-raising opportunities and initiatives and are willing/able to promote these.

e) To retain membership of the Fund-raising Standards Board (including compliance with codes of practice and reporting requirements).

Marketing.

b) To lead, and work with the Chief Executive and Directorate team in, the further development of a marketing strategy across the charity’s and trading company’s activities.

c) To lead the promotion and marketing of the charity and trading company.

d) To ensure the marketing of Age UK financial products and services is appropriately integrated with the marketing of the charity, and its services and activities.

e) To ensure that Age UK East Sussex staff and volunteers have a good aware of all charitable and financial products and services and are willing/able to promote these.

f) To recruit to and provide line-management of a fund-raising/marketing post from 2011/12, until the successful recruitment of a fund-raising manager from 2012/13. Thereafter provide line-management to the fund-raising manager.

g) To ensure compliance with all Brand Guidelines and regulatory requirements.

h) To ensure the effective maintenance and development of the organisation’s website, and the maximisation of income from this.

i) To lead the production of the charities Annual Review according to the agreed timeframe.

j) To ensure effective marketing to and collaboration with local older peoples’ charities who have adopted the ‘Friends of Age UK’ status.

Quality Management

a) To ensure compliance within the team to Age UK East Sussex quality standards currently ISO 9001 and Quality Counts

b) To ensure that your team’s template (standard) documents are kept up-to-date at all times and logged on the template document schedule (according to the template document procedure)

c) To ensure that regular customer satisfaction surveys, for all activities are conducted by your team and summaries provided to the Quality Manager for presentation at the quarterly quality review meetings

d) To ensure that all external complaints are logged and acted upon according to the complaints procedure

e) To ensure that all non conformance of services and activities (ie where the service/activity does not meet the standards expected), are logged together with preventative action, for the attention of the Quality Manager

Other

a) To work within the policies and procedures of Age UK East Sussex and apply consistent principles of diversity and equal opportunities throughout the work of the organisation

b) To undertake any duties as many reasonably be required.
