BARRETT Happy New Year! We are off to a good start. Our church has a new roof completed at a much lower cost than our original estimate. Next year about this time we will celebrate with a seven day cruise. This fund raiser will replace some of the money withdrawn from the Reserve Fund to pay for the roof. We have already added three new members this year. Our choir sounds better than ever. We are researching new ministries to serve our neighbors. The Lord has called us to a good place and continues to bless and guide us. Now let’s talk about the next major season in the church year-Lent. It begins on March 1 st with Ash Wednesday. I have heard your concerns about driving at night. Some of this we simply can’t avoid. We can’t make the powerful liturgical transition from darkness to light on the Easter Vigil by worshipping in the afternoon and going from daylight to daylight. However, we can make some accommodations so that some members are not excluded from the entire Lent season of special worship. This year there will be TWO chances to worship on Ash Wednesday-at noon and 7pm.

A MESSAGE FROM FR. BARRETT

Happy New Year!

It begins on March 1st with Ash Wednesday. Imposition of ashes and the Eucharist will be offered at both times. Also, on Good Friday there will be worship at noon and 7pm. We will also gather for the Stations of the Cross at noon every Friday in Lent. As we did in Advent, private confession will be offered every Tuesday starting on Feb. 28 from 10am until noon.

Finally, we will once again gather for soup suppers and worship every Wednesday in Lent following Ash Wednesday. Fellowship will be at 5pm with worship at 6pm. The theme this year is “At the Crossroads.” Each week we will examine the story of someone in scripture who faced a crossroad in their faith. We face the same challenges. The topics, starting with Ash Wednesday are: confession, betrayal, judgment, compassion, declaration, and obedience.

God bless you this year.

Father Bill

The Order of the Daughters of the KingAdvent Chapter of the DOK

The Order of the Daughters of the King is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church. Our membership currently includes women in the Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran and Roman Catholic churches.

If you are called to become a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King, you are responding to God's call of a deeper commitment and relationship with Him and to pray, serve and share the His love with people you meet every day.

We are all at different stages of our Christian journey – some have just begun and some have been on this path for a long time. But no matter where we are on our sacred journeys, our primary goal is the same – to know Jesus Christ and to make Him known to others.

We meet the second Sunday of the month after the 10AM service; if you are interested please see me after the service.

Episcopal Church Women (E.C.W). is Looking Back and Ahead

Looking back to our January program, I can still feel the inspiration everyone in the audience felt as we listened to our speaker, Karla Grimsley, CEO of Interfaith. We were

2

all amazed at just how much more Interfaith does than what we might have thought. If you were not there, please consider contacting Interfaith for a tour.

The ECW is looking ahead to a great year. Why? First off, in February, we will be treated to a presentation by a “snowbird” member of Advent, Pat Tallon. She has a presentation of the Lusitania which she has done for education classes at On Top of the World. At the time this article was written, the tentative date is Wednesday, February 22nd at 10:30am. So, pay attention to announcements on Sundays and signup to attend.

The date, March 11, at 5pm is set for the annual Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner fundraiser. Tickets ($12) will be sold beginning February 5 th. There will only be 100 available, so buy early, buy frequently – give them away – buy more!

In April there will be a Tea Party, on the 29th (also my birthday). Prepare to relax and enjoy a fine cup of tea, goodies and great fellowship. There will also be a sale of beautiful tea cups and saucers, donated by Muriel Chadwick and Fr. Loring.

Then, more fun will be had in May. Date and time will be set for a tour of Lakeridge Winery.

From June 5th – 7th is the ECW Province IV meeting at Camp McDowll in Alabama. Members of the ECW from the southeastern US will be meeting for a very powerful conference. Ask previous attendees like Mary Daniels, Liz Herrick, Debbie Milliron or me.

Also coming this year will be our ingathering for The Church Periodical Club (CPC). It is an Episcopal Institution; its ministry is to supply books, magazines, e-books, and educational tapes, videos and computer programs FREE to those who cannot obtain them and to raise the money to do this. The Church Periodical Club began as a club in 1888 at the Church of the Holy Communion in New York City. More information and details will be provided in upcoming months. Meanwhile, you can learn more at churchperiodical.com.
