Growing up in Colorado in a family that fostered creativity, Kit Mahoney enrolled in the art program at the University of Colorado but became discouraged with the prevailing art scene focused on abstraction. She switched to medical technology but later returned to her primary interest, studying at the Colorado Institute of Art where she then taught for fifteen years while managing a greeting card company.

She also took workshops from Ramon Kelley and Mark Daily, and under their influence, her style became looser as she pursued the countryside she loves in the vicinity of Denver. She has worked in pastels but seems to prefer oil applied with a palette knife.

About Kit Hevron MahoneyKit Hevron Mahoney has over twenty five years experience as a fine artist and design professional. Her background includes business, fine art, illustration and graphic design. Kit graduated from the University of Colorado and the Colorado Institute of Art where she also taught graphic design and drawing for over 15 years. Kit has been showing nationwide in solo and group exhibitions and her work has been included in the Colorado Governor's Invitational, Oil Painters of America and has won awards in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. Her work is highly prized in private and corporate collections including Jack Nicholson. Kit is passionate about traveling and painting stunning landscapes and florals that represent her interpretation of the many places she visits. Her bold, energetic palette knife paintings are available through her studio, national galleries, and by private commission. Her new style in oils has developed from painting in pastels for 14 years and is approached much like her pastels, building layers of paint, resulting in bold and colorful textural images. 'My paintings are a response to the passion and beauty I feel from and for Nature. As an artist I want to communicate visually and vibrantly the peace and serenity that is found in Nature. My dynamic compositions are a unique style of contemporary Impressionism with a bold use of color and texture.'
