    THERE IS MUCHto see and do here, andwherever exciting attractions are discov-ered, fine dining and unique lodging op-

    portunities arent ar away.Fort Hartsuff was built in 1874 to protect

    settlers during the tumultuous Plains IndianWars. It also brought financial stability tothe area, as many local residents were em-ployed at the installation. Other settlers soldgoods here. Te soldiers saw little action,and when the ort was decommissioned in1881, the nearby community o Calamusdried up. In 1961 Glen and Lillian Auble oOrd donated old Fort Hartsuff to the Stateo Nebraska. oday, Fort Hartsuff State His-torical Park is open or tours and includesthe parade grounds, the officers quarters,enlisted mens barracks, armory, stables andmore. Re-enactors relive the glory days withold-time uniorms, marching and cannonfiring. Te park is near present day Elyria,between Ord and Burwell east o Highway11.
