Training for Cold Weather Operations Foreword Operating in a cold weather environment is a challenge. Without the proper training and equipment, or the right code of conduct to meet these harsh environmental conditions we are destined to fail. With help and contribution from our network organisation we will publish a collection of articles focusing on establishing situational awareness for those planning for, or operating in a cold weather environment. They will aim to support the execution of, and give practical advice on, how to overcome the challenges of cold weather operations. Training for Cold Weather Operations represents the insight and experience from many sources. The variety and the opinions from the contributors are believed to be of importance in order to facilitate a better understanding of the complexity of cold weather operations. Knowledge is vital and the starting point for success. This project for publishing a collection of articles has been carried out by the Centre of Excellence for Cold Weather Operations and its network organisations including, Allied Training Centre, the School of Winter Warfare, Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and the Norwegian Armed Forces Medical Services. The project is a part of a campaign aiming to increase the availability of knowledge and to increase the cold weather capability within NATO. Training for Cold Weather Operations focuses on selected subjects believed to be of importance to soldiers as well as operational planners. Tor Aandalen LtCol Director COE CWO
