A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park: The first theme of this book is: never give up! ; the book tackles the themes of courage, family and persistence and prepares you for 8th grade as well as high school. This book is also read in 7th grade in the USA.Utopia by Thomas Moore: Thomas More's "Utopia" is one of the most influential books in western literature. Within "Utopia" is described an idealized island community upon which perfect social harmony has been achieved. This book is a great preparation for the books we will be reading in 8th grade and the theme of ‘Utopia’ we will be talking about in grade 8.

Classics: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou,: Classic autobiography of a young black girl struggling against the brutal American race discrimination in the 1930s.

Poetry: The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost: Try to analyse the meaning of the poem; there are many online resources that will help you – this will prepare you for what we will be doing in grade 8!

Informational Text: Today’s Youth Look to Advertising as Much as Their Friends When Making Purchasing Desicions from Harris Interactive: You can find this text online by googling it. It shows what influences the choices of teenagers your age and is very informative.
