How to Annotate…Now that you have properly cited all of your sources, you can begin to organize and annotate your bibliography.* Bibliography is double spaced and goes at the end of your paper, but does not count towards your 8 pages #1 Put each sources in alphabetical order by Last name or First word in citation. * This is only time in your paper that you can use “I”

Page 6: 1) Citing 2)Annotated 3) Parenthetical Citation

How to Annotate…Two paragraphs are required for each source:Paragraph #1:

This is a summary of the source, or the portion of source that you used. Paragraph #2:

Why did you use this source? Explain the relevance it has towards your paper. Justify the validity of the source, including the credentials of the author.

Geidel, Theodor Seuss. Green Eggs and Ham. New York: Beginner, 1988.Print.

Green Eggs and Ham is a short story about a young man named Sam who refuses to try the local delicacy, green eggs and ham. The narrator attempts to find a setting or scenarios in which Sam might venture a taste of this dish, but Sam continues to decline the offer. It is not until the very end of the story in which the narrator convinces Sam to try green eggs and ham. After Sam tries green eggs and ham he declares he, in fact, does like green eggs and ham.Theodor Seuss Geisel (known as Dr. Seuss) is well a respected commentator on humane nature and folly. Dr. Seuss is also a well known children's author and wordsmith. In this well composed short story, Sam’s aversion to even trying something as simple as a breakfast food demonstrates the basic truth that change can be frightening. This information is relative to my research through the overlapping themes of xenophobic tendencies in American culture and the difficulties that accompany overcoming those tendencies.

Internal Citation also know as Parenthetical

Citation If you quote, paraphrase, or summarize at any point in your paper you must cite within your paper. To do this refer to the information that you have already used in your Bibliography

Page 9: 1) Citing 2)Annotated 3) Parenthetical Citation

Sources with Author and Page: Write the last name of the author and then the page you referred to in his or her book. For example: (Baker 223).Sources without Author: If no author is given, use the name of the book in place of the author. For example: (Science Today 45).Internet Sources: When citing an Internet source, give only the name of the author, and if that is not provided, give the name of the Internet site. You do not have to put page numbers. For Example: (Smith) or (The Website of Many Uses).

Where to put Parenthetical Citations?

Place parenthetical citations at the end of the sentence you are paraphrasing and quoting. For example: The destruction of the argentine is due to many socioeconomic factors (Taylor 33).Even when quoting, place the parenthetical citations after the quotations. For example: "Mamma always said stupid is as stupid does" (Gump 89).
