Activity 4 25 minutes

Your friend is in hospital recovering from a broken leg. Write a cheerful, lively and entertaining letter to your friend to cheer him or her up. (20 marks)

First paragraph

Ask your friend some questions about how he/she is feeling and what life is like in hospital. You could write about how you found out about his/her accident.

Third paragraph

Suggest something you and your friend can do after he/she has recovered. Give all the details about where you will go and what you will do.

Second paragraph

Describe what you have been doing, including some of the things that have happened at home or some of the gossip from events at school which will be interesting to tell him/her.

Explain when you will visit him/her and hope for a speedy recovery.

You will usually write an informal letter to family or friend so think carefully about how you would begin and end your letter.

What do I need to do to get a C Grade? Set the letter out correctly. Use a friendly, informal tone. Think about your audience. Is your letter entertaining? Would you like to receive it?

Arrange your ideas and paragraphs into a sensible order.

Vary the beginning of your sentences. Use spelling and punctuation carefully.
