Frans de Ridder se twee bene is geamputeer

ongeluk op die Longtompas verlede week.

Mnr. Frans de Ridder (34) is op 28 Junie ernstig beseer nadat hy met sy motorfiets geval het op die Longtompas. Dit was naby Patato Seed Production (ongeveer 15km buite Lydenburg). Hy is tans in die Rob Ferreira Hospitaal. Intussen is beide sy bene geamputeer. Beide bo die knie. Daar is ook verskeie a n d e r e r n s t i g e b e s e r i n g s . S y vriende het by Nedbank ’n bankrekening geopen. Die publiek word gevra om asb. by te dra. Mnr. de Ridder gaan ongelooflike groot mediese uitgawes hê vir sy huidige herstel en rehabilitering. Hulle ondersoek ook die moontlikheid om hom na Nelspruit Medi Clinic oor te plaas indien daar fondse is. Frans is tans slegs in die begin van sy herstel en daar lê ’n baie lang pad voor. Dankie aan Deon Broekman (plaaslike reddingswerker en Hazmat operateur) wat die EMS helikopter ontbied het (en hul hulp), Netcare 911, paramedici van ER24, Verkeersdepartmente en SAPD wat op die toneel geassesteer het. Wild cat strike at MarulaTHE National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said that the strike at Impala Platinum's Marula Mine in Burgersfort, Limpopo, ended earlier this week. The workers took part in an illegal and unprotected strike on Friday. NUM refused to say what the reason for the strike was but workers explained that they were striking for higher wages. Lydenburg. Die plaas se naam word nie genoem nie weens veiligheidsredes. Die misdaadinte l l igensie-eenheid (HAWKS) het volgens die SAPD op inligting gereageer en toegeslaan op die vermeende stropers.Lede van die provinsie en ander eenhede het die aksie gekoördineer en weggekruip om die stropers in te wag.Die vermeende stropers is met twee bakkies op die plaas afgelaai.

Die bestuurders is daarna by ’n vulstasie by die ingang van Lydenburg gearresteer. Die vyf verdagtes was teen spertyd (Dinsdag) steeds in die SAPD Lydenburg se selle. Hulle het toe gewag op hul eerste hofverskyning. Hulle is op die plaas betrap met toerusting wat vir renosterstroping gebruik word (soos byle). Hulle het gewere met knaldempers by hulle gehad, twee pistole en een ongelisensieërde vuurwapen. Hulle is ook gearresteer vir betreding. ~ Michelle Boshoff

open day event on 4 July.Government sector departments brought services closer to the people through their service delivery trucks. Present at the event were the Department of Home Affairs, Dept of Labour, SASSA, SEDA and SARS.The event was the first of many that will take place every first week of the month;

communities if they are not going to assist in the access and acceleration of service delivery.The municipality thanked everyone including the stakeholders who heeded the call to be part of this very important event and urged the community to continue using the centre for their service delivery needs.

The date for the next event will be announced in due course.

WANNEER mens die stories hoor en lees van die Springs monster en sy vrou, en van die vrou wat haar eie kinders telkemale verkrag het, staan jy verstom oor die vergrype.Mens hoor dit (en as jy rassisties is) staan jy nie verbaas as jy dit van ander groeperinge hoor nie. Maar van Afrikaners? Kerkmense? Ons mense?Nee regtig. Rassiste sal hul veralgemening van die definisie barbaarsheid moet wysig.

Ek het in Phalaborwa laerskool toe gegaan. ’n Myndorp waar die dronk pa in elke vierde huis die dronk ma en die kinders gereeld getimmer het. Toe trek ek in 69 Lydenburg en hoërskool toe. Hier het ek verneem dat Lydenburg bekend was vir sy ontug. In 76 sluit ek as Inligtingsoffisier by die Lydenburg Kommando aan en sien en fotografeer vooraanstaande pilare in die dorp se motors in die bos langs ’n ander ou se vrou se motor, met al hulle klere op die een motor se dak! Die standaard grappie was dat as die brug onder in die dorp in die nag wegspoel, daar ’n paar vername ouens se motors anderkant die brug gestrand sou wees. En ek het geweet wie hulle was. Party

Wie weet hoeveel Lydenburg monsters loop nie hier rond nie?En goeie mense loop en vertel vir my dat jy nie goeie werke hoef te doen as jy ’n wedergebore Christen is nie. Jy is klaar gered. Ek dink nie meer daai ding nie. Ek dink ons moet gaan leer by mense wat moraliteit hoog op prys stel. Gaan kyk bv. na die Vrymesselaars, wat so maklik gekritiseer word. Gaan kyk na hulle waardes en norme. Ons ou volkie het baie te leer, voordat ons selftevrede kan wees. Ons het ’n lang pad om te loop voor ons selfvoldaan kan sê ons is gered.

’n Oog vir 'n oog.' Al is dit nie letterlik nie. Die kosbaarheid van honde en troeteldiere, die hele diereryk kan nie in een Hoorhierso saamgevat word nie. Seniorkoor Maandag 30 Junie deelgeneem aan ’n koor slypskool onder leiding van Gerard’d du Toit.Hierdie was ’n besondere eer vir Laerskool Lydenburg en hulle koordirigent Suzaan Bronkhorst. Gerard’d du Toit is ’n internasionaal bekende koorleier en dirigent wat onder andere leier was van die Drakensbergse Seunskoor. Hy het verskeie internasionale koorkompetisies beoordeel en talle internasionale toekennings ontvang het. Hy is tans die dirigent van die KZN Universiteit Camerata Koor en die Natalse Jeugkoor. Gerard’d het tydens die werksessie die Lydenburg Laerskool se Seniorkoor in die palm van sy hand gehad.

Hy het veral aandag geskenk aan stemontwikkeling en diksie. Hy was veral beïndruk met die koor se dissipline, spanwerk en intonasie.Op Woensdagaand 2 Julie het Suzaan en die koor by die Innibos koorfees opgetree. Hierdie was so ’n skitterende optrede dat die Highlands Panorama Nuus ’n oproep van iemand in Witrivier ontvang het om te vertel hoe goed dit werklik was. Volgens hom het Suzaan staande die klavier gespeel en tegelykertyd die koor gedirigeer.Die groep het ’n staande ovasie ontvang na hulle vertoning.Die impak van die koor gaan om hulle unieke geestelike boodskap wat hulle uitdra en volg op jarelange toewyding en uiters harde werk wat minstens twee ure per week deur die jaar insluit. Baie geluk aan hierdie gedugte span. Hulle is ware ambasadeurs van ons dorp.~ Andre Coetzee.

LAST year CAR reported on the Toyota FCV Concept, and now the manufacturer revealed plans to put the FCV Concept in production, with the design of the car staying true to its concept.

Set to launch in Japan before April 2015 and in the summer of 2015 in the United States and Europe, Toyota has only revealed the exterior design and pricing of its new hydrogen fuel cell sedan.

According to Toyota, significant improvements have been made to its fuel cell system and that the new fuel cell sedan will feature similar performance to that of a conventional petrol engine, with the added benefit of a 700 km cruising range and a refuelling time of roughly three minutes.

Pricing for the new sedan will start at approximately $68 690 when it goes on sale in Japan. Prices for the U.S. and Europe have not yet been decided.

Toyota says that sales will initially be limited to regions where hydrogen refuelling infrastructure is being developed.

More details on the car, including specifications and sales targets, will be announced at a later stage.

NISSAN's Qashqai has become a formidable force in the compact crossover world over the last seven years, with more than two million of them having found homes around the world and 20 000 in South Africa alone. In fact, you can probably pronounce its name by now... ok it’s 'Kash-Kai' in case you couldn't. With the march of time its rivals have sharpened their respective games over the last few years and now it's Nissan's turn to fight back with the all-new Qashqai, launched in South Africa with a fresh design and new technologies. Nissan redesigned this crossover from the ground up and the finished product is longer, wider, lower and lighter than before. We quite like the new exterior design - though it doesn't stray too far from the original's blueprint, it looks decidedly more modern and it's certainly easy on the eye.

Nissan has aimed somewhat higher when it comes to interior quality, with a fuss-free layout and premium quality materials. New to the model is a Drive-Assist Display with high-definition graphics and an adaptable ambient lighting system to create that perfect mood at night. The Qashqai features brand new seats, designed using advanced medical scanning, and as before there's space for five - its' new X-Trail sibling will offer room for seven. Leg, head and shoulder room have been improved, while the boot capacity grows by 20 litres to 430 litres. On the 'techno' front, Nissan is offering its Around View Monitor as an option on all but the base model. This gizmo uses four cameras to effectively create a 'helicopter view' of the vehicle displayed through a seven-inch LCD display - which also comes as part of the optional Techno Pack.

For the time being, the Qashqai will be offered with one petrol and two turbodiesel engines. That sole petrol offering is a brand new 1.2-litre direct injection turbocharged unit that develops 85kW at 4500rpm and 190Nm at 2000rpm, while sipping 6.2 litres per 100km on the combined cycle. A 110kW 1.6 turbopetrol could be added to the range at a later stage and that would certainly give Nissan some Kuga-fighting ammo. Like the 1.2T, the improved 1.5 dCi turbodiesel sends its power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. This 1.5 pushes 81kW at 4000rpm and 260Nm between 1750 and 2500rpm and its main drawcard is the claimed average consumption of 4.2 l/100km.

There is a beefier diesel option in the form of a 1.6 dCi with 96kW on tap at 4000rpm and a wholesome 320Nm from 1750. You can have it as a front-wheel drive with CVT

transmission or as an all-wheel drive (All Mode 4x4-i as Nissan calls it) with a six-speed manual gearbox. Consumption is as low as 4.9 litres per 100km in the case of the CVT model. Being modern motors, both diesel versions require 50ppm diesel or better. The Qashqai is built around the Nissan-Renault Alliance's new modular CMF platform and unlike many crossover rivals, this vehicle features an independent multi-link rear suspension design, which allows for a better balance between ride and road holding.

The range kicks off with the 1.2T Visia, packing standard features l ike six a i rbags , Veh ic le Dynamic Control, hill start assistance, five-inch Drive-Assist D i s p l a y , m u l t i -funct ion steering wheel, cruise control and air conditioning. Also standard is a five-year/90 000km service plan and six-

year/150 000km warranty. The 1.2T and 1.5 dCi Acenta models add dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, leather steering wheel and snazzier cloth trim; on the outside it gains 17-inch alloys, electric folding mirrors and front fog lights. For extra bling you can order the Design Pack (R12 800), for 19-inch alloys, privacy glass and silver roof rails and you can keep your inner-geek happy with the Techno Pack (R16 700), which adds the Around View Monitor and NissanConnect infotainment system with navigation. The Design Pack's goodies are standard on the 1.6 dCi Acenta, in addition to LED headlights and keyless entry and start. Buyers will still have to pay extra for the Techno Pack, however.

CUBAN dealers sold just 50 cars and four motorcycles across the country in the first six months of the year under a new law that removed limits on vehicle purchases for the first time in half a century. Problem is, the new cars came with prices so high that few people could afford them.

Long-frustrated Cubans welcomed the law that took effect in January until they saw sticker prices were marked up 400 percent or more, pricing family sedans like European sports cars. Cuba has said it would invest 75 percent of the proceeds from new car sales in its woeful public transportation system. But total sales at the country's 11 national dealerships reached just $1.28 million in the first six months of the year, the official website Cubadebate.com reported on Monday, citing Iset Vazquez, vice president of the state enterprise Corporacion CIMEX.

Before the start of this year Cubans had to request authorisation from the government to buy from state retailers, which sell new and second-hand vehicles, usually former rental cars. Most of the sales this year appeared to be of the second-hand variety considering the average sale price of $23 759 (R250 000) per vehicle, including the motorcycles. A Havana Peugeot dealership was pricing its 2013 model 206 at $91 000 (R965 000) when the new rules came into effect, and it wanted $262 000 (R2.77 million) for the sportier 508.

Such prices drew howls of protest from the few Cubans who could even consider buying a car. Most state workers make around $20 (R212) a month. The high prices have also been a complaint of foreign businesses and potential investors, who need government permission to import a new or used car without the huge markup.

Cuba is only gradually loosening the vehicle market. In 2011, it started allowing its people to buy and sell used cars from each other. Before then, only cars that were in Cuba before the 1959 revolution could be freely bought and sold, which

is why there are so many US-made, vintage 1950s cars on the streets.

Daar is ’n veelfunksie ritrekenaar wat brandstofverbruik, temperatuur ens. aandui. Die stuurwiel en rathefboomknop is met leer oorgetrek en die bestuurdersitplek is multiverstelbaar. Die stuurwiel is onder afgeplat, wat in- en uitklim maklik maak. Beenruimte agter is redelik goed en die bagasieruim is soortgelyk aan die van ander motors in die klas. Die motor kom standaard met ’n “smokers pack” asbakkie en aansteker. Baie gaaf.Met die inklimslag weet jy hierdie is ’n Volkswagen. Alles is netjies, konserwatief en die kwaliteit is duidelik. Skuif jou sitplek reg, skakel aan en jy voel dadelik die kort, positiewe skakeling van die rathefboom. Koppelaar en ander kontroles is lekker lig. Die kragstuur het ’n bietjie gewig en voel beter as meeste van die kompetisie.Die motor trek goed en die TSI 1200 maak soveel krag as ’n normale 1600. Dit hou spoed teen ’n bult en die ratte is lekker lank. Teen 120 km/u in vyfde staan die toereteller op 2 800 omwentelinge per minuut en teen 140 lees dit 3 200 opm. Vering is goed, padhouvermoë goed en ratskakeling is goed. Die remme het my effe verbaas. Hulle is baie goed, maar jy moet redelik hard trap. Opsommend is hierdie ’n uitstekende motor. Dit voel soos ’n effe kleiner Golf. Dit is baie mooi van voor, maar lyk soos enige ander luikrug van agter. Ek dink dit trek goed. Jy kom nooit agter dat daar krag kort nie. Dit loop stil en stabiel teen 180 km/u en volgens die ritrekenaar beloof die Polo uitstekende brandstofverbruik. Daar is geen veerstelselgeraas op ons ongelyk strate nie. Die motor voel solied en goed gebou en die bestuursposissie is aangenaam. Ek het twee klein goedjies om oor te kla. Daar is

min plek links van die koppelaar vir ’n groot skoen en omdat ek uit die ou skool kom, het ek ’n enjintemperatuurmeter gemis. Soos alle Volkswagens, is die Polo nie meer goedkoop nie. Dit is relatief duur, maar dit is beslis baie goeie waarde vir geld. As ek kon, het ek vir ma een gekoop.Andre Coetzee.

The shrinking economy combined with ongoing cost-of-living increases such as the electricity price hike recently implemented, has raised the spectre of the situation in 2009 when hundreds of homeowners suddenly found themselves facing foreclosure and the loss of their properties.So says Jan Davel, MD of the RealNet estate agency group, who notes that many consumers are in a precarious financial position again due to recent interest rate and price increases, and that any loss of income as a result of the current economic contraction could easily push them over the edge.“This risk is evident, we think, in the First National Bank research that shows 15% of sellers in the first quarter of this year were selling to relieve financial pressure, compared to 14% in the previous quarter. This was the first increase in this percentage for a long time. “What is more, Prof Bernadine de Clercq of Unisa's Bureau of Market ResearchSA says consumers are literally 'on the brink' now in terms of strain on their incomes, and that their ability to service their debts is already under severe pressure. Speaking at the launch of the latest MBD Consumer Financial Vulnerability Index (CFVI), she said that any further burdens, such as another interest rate increase, would undoubtedly bring severe hardships, especially to lower income earners.”And things could become especially bleak, Davel says,

Bedankingsbrief vir begrafnis van Ouma Koekie:Die Bothma-gesin van Lydenburg wil graag die volgende persone bedank vir die hulp en ondersteuning van ouma Koekie se begrafnis. 1. Aan ons HEMELSE VADER, baie dankie vir ’n wonderlike moeder. Sy was ’n perfekte voorbeeld vir almal. Haar grenslose liefde was ’n lewende bewys van SY teenwoordigheid. Dankie Ouma, dit was ’n voorreg om u kind te wees ! Graag wil ons haar geliefkoosde woorde gebruik: Vir my is die lewe CHRISTUS, en die sterwe wins.2. Ds. Willie Botha - baie dankie vir die ondersteuning tydens ouma se siekte. Dankie ook dat u die vakansie opsy skuif vir die begrafnis, en so ver moes ry. 3. Dr. Leon van Heerden, baie dankie vir die hulp en volgehoue belangstelling.4. Die Hervormde Kerk Lydenburg se personeel vir die voorbereidings, en die geriewe wat ons kan gebruik. Dankie vir so baie artikels wat oor die jare verskyn het van ouma. Dit is nou deel van Lydenburg se ryk geskiedenis van uitstaande burgers van ons dorp. 10. Aan almal wat ouma se laaste verjaarsdag so spesiaal gemaak het, baie dankie ook aan Madelein Viljoen vir haar bydrae en vriendskap. 11. Alhoewel die ter aarde bestelling privaat was, het die direkte familie tog baie moeite gedoen, en dit word opreg waardeer. 13. Baie dankie aan ons oom Isak Bothma en sy vrou, tannie Lettie, hulle dogters Bets en Ester vir die moeite. 14. 'n Baie spesiale bedanking moet aan ons skoonsuster gaan, Elize Potgieter Bothma, en haar kinders Elsabe Burr-Dixon en Deon Bothma, asook haar skoonseun, Rudi Burr-Dixon en klienkind, Ruan. Baie dankie vir die besonderse daad wat hulle gedoen het. 15. Ons broer, Frik Bothma, wat ’n tyd gelede oorlede is, se as is saam met ouma Koekie in die graf geplaas. Hierdie buitengewone opoffering om die pragtige kissie so lank met soveel teerheid, te bewaar, en nou by ouma te begrawe, is die bewys van hulle gevoel. Baie dankie dat julle so ver gery en soveel moeite gedoen het.16. Aan ouma se dogter, Hannie en haar kinders, Marinda, Lindie en Tienie en sy vrou Nicolene en hul dogtertjie Monique, dankie vir die hulp en ondersteuning. 17. Dan aan almal wat vir ouma Koekie geken het. Ook aan elkeen wat op haar pad met haar kontak gemaak het, op watter manier ookal, daar is te veel om te noem, baie baie dankie vir elke woord, elke boodskap, elke oproep.18.
