Municipality (TCM) are well aware of. This is the article published in the Sowetan: “A cash-strapped Mpumalanga municipality has had disclaimers - the worst possible audit outcome - for the past seven financial years.The situation at Thaba Chweu local municipality - which includes the small towns of Lydenburg (Mashishing), Sabie and Graskop - is unlikely to improve in the financial year that ended last month.According to documents seen by Sowetan, the municipality expects to post a deficit of more than R26.6-million in 2015/2016 and forecasts another R18.6-million deficit in the current financial year (2016/2017).Thaba Chweu municipality has been hit with disclaimers since 2008 and in the financial year that ended in June last year, auditor-general Kimi Makwetu slammed the municipality for misspending its infrastructure grant and the unspent portion not being backed by the cash in its bank account.In terms of the Division of Revenue Act, allocations to all spheres of government may only be utilised for the purpose stipulated and in accordance with the applicable framework.The municipality is among several across the country that owe power utility Eskom millions of rands for electricity.Four months ago, Thaba Chweu local municipality reportedly owed Eskom about R320-million and it was threatened with disconnection.Eskom spokesman Khulu Phasiwe did not respond to an inquiry on the latest figure.Last year, then Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs minister Pravin Gordhan admitted that Thaba Chweu local municipality was in the "dysfunctional category".Gordhan also set up a task team to "engage with the political and administrative leadership as well as support staff"."I acknowledge that the municipality is experiencing various challenges related to service delivery, financial management, institutional and administrative capacity, good governance and public participation," Gordhan admitted in a letter to Farhad Essack, DA member of the National Council of Provinces for Mpumalanga.Compounding the municipality's institutional and administrative capacity troubles is the fact that it has had more than half-a-dozen bosses within a short space of time. Current acting municipal manager Lesley Mokwena was appointed last year. He had been the council's chief financial officer only since February last year.In the run-up to the 2011 local government elections, Thaba Chweu had lawyer Terrence Mokale appointed its administrator following allegations of maladministration and corruption including the theft of R3.2-million by some officials who changed passwords for its electronic banking system.Since then it has had Mpumalanga premier David Mabuza's former special adviser Jomo Mnisi, who was seconded to the municipality, Godfrey Nkosi, Billy Ralebipi, Tumelo Ratau, Surprise Maebela and Burton Koma as acting or permanent municipal managers.”(Source: Sowetan).

through the pass, he stopped next to the road. He was already back in his vehicle when a man ran towards his vehicle and pointed a firearm at him. A second man also came running from the bushes across the road.

Die mens se inherente dwarstrekkerigheid en onderlinge verskille maak hulle droom onwerklik. Dit is hoekom ek nie dié

snert van een wêreldregering glo nie. Sal nie werk nie.Britanje het sopas sy nek dik gemaak en uit die EU onttrek - Brexit. Dit staan vir “Britain’s Exit” En dis vir my mooi. Europa se droom van ’n mengelmoes mense van elke soort, geur en kleur onder een sogenaamd vrye stelsel is gedoem. En die Britte het dit besef. Die Ou Testament se mense het dit op die harde manier geleer.Stadig maar seker is die wêreld se mense besig om gatvol te raak vir die p o l i t i e k e k o r r e k t h e i d e n “laatmaarallestoe” beleid gegrond op dié leuens. Kyk na die Amerikaners. Hulle is ook stadig maar seker besig om

terug te keer na konserwatiewe en behoudende waardes. Dit is waarom Donald Trump so opgang maak.Die liberales, of soos ’n vriend van my hulle die “libiote” noem, se plannetjies werk nie. Mense begin sien deur hulle leuens, agteraf metodiek en valsheid en is op soek na waarheid en ware leierskap.Dit het niks te maak met haat of rassisme of besigheid nie, maar alles met etiek, regte waardes en norme, identiteit en eerlike regering. Laat die son oor almal skyn, maar bring wet en orde en Bybelse norme en waardes terug.Selfs die Duitse Kanselier Angela Merkel se populariteit daal skerp en ou Mugabe se land brand nou ook. In Suid Afrika is ons bietjie agter, maar ek voorspel dat konserwatiewe politiek sal groei, soos mense oplossings vir die huidige chaos soek.

Lewende Woord is al ses maande besig om herstelwerk te doen aan Kannabas en Kiepersol gratis. Ek, Sandra, wil ook net dankie sê aan elkeen se bydrae by Kannabas en Kiepersol. Baie dankie aan die elektrisiëns vir jul gratis bydrae van regmaak en gratis eiers. Hul mag nie meer gaan na die publiek om te bedel nie.

Ons tel soms nie die klein seëninge nie, maar daar is baie daarvan. Al sal ek die laaste een wees wat preek. Maar Lydenburg het nog baie goeie dinge wat ons laat uitstaan bo ander dorpe. Genoeg soveel dat ek nie maklik sal verhuis nie. Hoe sê die bekende Engelse grappie: “Got the T-shirt” So ek het al alles gedoen en gesien en ervaar. Dis eintlik lekker in Lydenburg, probleme en al.

IN the olden days pasta was not eaten at home, only in Italy. We ate macaroni or spaghetti. And Curry was a surname. A take-away was a mathematical problem. A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower.All potato crisps were plain; the only choice we had was whether to put the salt/vinegar on or not. Rice was only eaten as a milk pudding.Calamari was called squid and we used it as fish bait. A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining. Brown bread was something only poor people ate.Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking. Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green. Sugar enjoyed good press in those days, and was regarded as being white gold. Cubed sugar was regarded as posh. Fish didn't have fingers in those days. Eating raw fish was called poverty, not sushi. None of us had ever heard of yoghurt...we called it 'Dikmelk'. Healthy food consisted of anything edible... meat and potatoes.People who didn't peel potatoes were regarded as lazy.Indian restaurants were only found in India. Cooking outside was called camping. A 'Potjie' used to be under the bed at night!Seaweed was not a recognised food. "Kebab" was not even a word, never mind a food. Prunes were medicinal. Surprisingly, muesli was readily available, it was called cattle feed. Water came out of the tap. A Day & Night Golf Fundraiser will take place during the last Saturday of the month. The first 9 holes will be played during the day and the last 9 holes at night with a fluorescent golf ball. The field will be lit up by glow in the dark markers which will definitely help with a lot of entertainment. After the first 9 holes the organisers will be serving curry and rice and there will be a cash bar available. R2500 and R1500 per hole. Hole 1 and 5 is R2500 and all the other holes are R1500. If you would like to join in the entertainment, a 4 ball will cost R1400. It will take place at the Lydenburg Golf Club on Saturday, August 27 at 14:00.

Op 14 en 15 Julie neem hy deel aan die SAGA Tshwane Junior Open (Pretoria Country Club). Hou Tiaan dop, hy gaan nog groter hoogtes bereik in gholf.
