From the Pastor The angel said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Christ and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” As we celebrate the mystery of the birth of Jesus Christ some thoughts from the one of the Fathers of the Church, St. John Damascene might help us to understand the beauty and magnitude of Christmas Day. After the sin of Adam and Eve, God did not need to become human in order to save us, but he did. Here are four reasons why: To proclaim his goodness. Despite humanity being awfully messy God did not despise us nor desert us when we turned our backs on him. He loves us with a love that is relentless. "Even His punishments are meant to heal us and to prepare us for the offer of something far greater: no mere earthly paradise, but Heaven itself. At the Incarnation, therefore, God’s goodness and fidelity to His promise is evident. Jesus, our promised Savior, is the hand extended to us in God’s goodness" - Msgr. Charles Pope. To proclaim his justice. How did we get into the mess we are in today? Through the actions of a man and a woman at a tree. How did we get out? Through the actions of a woman, Mary, who said yes to God undoing the disobedience of Eve; and through the actions of the Man Jesus Christ who died upon the tree taking our sins with him. God would not let Satan win our souls, rather, he redeemed humanity to over-come what humanity had lost. To proclaim his wisdom. No mere man has the power to repay the debt we owe God because of our sins. But God does! And so he took on everything we are, our body, soul, and will, in order to save us. Just as a human decision (eating the forbidden fruit) was the cause of our fall, so a human decision to be obedient to the Father by a divine person became our salvation. To proclaim his power and might. Think on this: God, whom the heavens cannot contain, who gov-erns the entire cosmos, who brought everything into being with just a word, makes himself tiny and yet does not lose his infinite power. All things are possible for God! In the end, the birthday of our Savior is the feast of our salvation. As we read in Saint John's gospel, "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whoever believes in him might not perish but have eternal life." God indeed became man so that man (you and I) might have the opportu-nity to become God. One with him forever. That's how much he loves us!

Merry Christmas!!

¡¡Feliz Navidad!!
