Com-pany Admiration – Gongshow Gear

“Hockey is a sport that can bring a community together”.

A company that I admire and look up too is a hockey apparel company called “Gongshow”. Gongshow gear is a hockey apparel company specifically targeted towards the hockey “lifestyle” they design clothes specifi-cally made for hockey players. They have added women’s line as well as teamed up with hockey movies such as “goon”. Gongshow was formed in 2002, by 3 guys in the Junior A hockey league. As the word began to get out the apparel name took off by hockey players all over leagues getting maximum expo-sure in the NHL.

Gongshow not only has a superb reputation for their service but they do a lot of activities outside of selling clothing. Gongshow has teamed up with many charities and events to help out as much as possible. A main part-nership that has been very prominent to me has been their teaming up with NHL player Bobby Ryan who supports the charity “Operation Home Front”. Operation Home Front assists military families during difficult financial times

by providing food assistance in the form of food boxes and gift certificates to grocery

stores. Gongshow took initiative and made exclusive hats for this charity, sell them online and give half of the profit to the charity. This amongst many other charities and events run by Gongshow have made them a huge inspiration.

I relate to Gongshow because not only do I represent the brand, I’m heavily involved in the hockey community

and love when a couple of small town people can make something big. It shows that it only takes one person to make a dif-ference so when you bring people together it can be a movement. Through the advertising and marketing program I want to work

within sports marketing, while making an impact on the community within. Hockey is a sport that can bring a community together. It’s a sport to be excited about even when things are rough.

“I’m not trying to be the next Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux... I am putting pressure on my-self to do my best and perform to my potential -- that’s all I can do.”

Sidney Crosby a 26-year-old Cole harbor native is debatably one of the most hated and loved NHL players in

the league. In his first season Crosby finished 6th in the league for leading scoring. Crosby has won multiple awards consisting of Most Valuable player, Hart memorial trophy, and of course The Stanley Cup. Crosby has not only represented Canada in winning the cup but also brought us home a gold medal in the 2010 winter Olympics after scoring the game-win-ning goal. He now leads the Pittsburgh Penguins as captain and continues to break records, and turn heads in the

NHL. Simply put, Sidney Crosby is a human highlight reel.

Crosby was nominated for Time Magazines “Top 100 most influential people” and for good reason. He has undeniably become the face of hockey in Canada. Sidney has influenced people all around the nation. From donated hockey equipment, support-ing the Mario Lemieux foundation, to creating his own charity the “Sidney Crosby Foundation” and donating is gold medal bonus of 20,000 dollars to it. Crosby continues to keep people

talking around the league and proving even the most negative people wrong. Crosby knows how to take the criti-cism and utilize it to his ability.

No matter what Sidney has encoun-tered in his life, young fame, and hate, he always was able to overcome it and come back even better. This is a per-son with ethic I want to strive to have. Crosby possesses so many positive qualities a good leader should have and it works.

Personal Admiration – Sidney Crosby

The fact that Sidney is so young and has accomplished this much in his life-time makes it easy to remember that hard work will bring you greatness. No matter how great you become you will always stay humble and that is some-thing that Crosby has done well. He stated on askmen.com “I’m not trying to be the next Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux... I am putting pressure on myself to do my best and perform to my potential -- that’s all I can do.” This is the type of attitude I hope to always carry throughout my life.
