    Entau- December 1, 2009 07:39 AM (GMT)

    Something different this time

thanks rayloke for getting this kit for me in HK, :P

but once i open it, was a bit dissapointed, this kit was badly mold, lots of flash, sink hole, and other imperfection, and i 've

been sanding this kit for almost 2 weeks :blood25ij:

as you can see, i need to fill all the holes and gaps, and even remove the ornament pattern on the side because its badly

    mold.

    THE KATANA

all the parts for the katana, the wakizaki also consist the same amount of parts, only smaller

the double ring tsuba, very deep sink mark, and lots of sanding

extended the bottom, cause its too short compare to the real one

before and after sanding, now i know why its so difficult to polish/shape a katana :P

the kogatana (little knife) to be insert at the saya (scabbard)

    The Chrome

I'm using Mr Color Metalizer Aluminium

  • 7/26/2019 1:3 Scale Samurai Sword (Miyamoto Musashi)

    10/33

I'm doing it using drybrushing, no Airbrush was use at all, and not event on black basecoat

  • 7/26/2019 1:3 Scale Samurai Sword (Miyamoto Musashi)

    11/33

ok, first i wetsand the spoon with 1000, then mask the hamon (wave pattern) and compound with tamiya compound coarse,

  • 7/26/2019 1:3 Scale Samurai Sword (Miyamoto Musashi)

    12/33

then tamiya fine compound, after that apply mr color aluminium using dry brush, about 4 layer

as you can see the top are just 1000 wetsand, so the reflection are blurred, while the bottom are much smoother, and this is

just drybrushing on WHITE plastic and then BUFF till shine, IMO the outcome should be better and gloss black surface

cons: can't touch with bare hand, easily scrub off, can't be topcoat or decal

pros: can be touch up using drybrushing and buff again, all done in 15min

this will be an awesome showpiece indeed...

    and thanks for the link..

Fascinating. Well done thus far Entau. Pity the kit had so much repairs to be done and I wonder why the blade did not just

come chromed. At 1/3th I can understand why you suffered from the sanding. On the positive side you probably managed

to buildup some extra muscles on your forearms & fingers after the workout. :)

Looking forward to seeing more progress pics especially since I like all pointy and sharp things. :P

    Entau- December 2, 2009 03:34 AM (GMT)

    thanks kuman & beachbum ^_^

almost all part was come in chrome and gold, but because most of the parts were badly mold (sink mark, flash, mold line,

nip mark, bubbles), i've to sand the entire thing, so the chrome was useless, stripping is definitely a must

test again the dry brushing technique on a BLACK plastic knife, result was better than WHITE spoon, but still easily scrub

off, and its not as SHINEY as the real knife.

picture above looks close but in reality the difference is HUGE, the real knife is on bottom

    maybe i should try this:

From this picture without words, I think both are real knife.

wuichong- March 9, 2010 12:15 PM (GMT)Black plastics as base colour looks better thans white plastic spoon.

Painted some of the parts black base, but since i was cheapskate, i mixed leftover & unused colors

mixture of mr color super black & metallic black

then dry brushing using mr metalizer dark iron

  • 7/26/2019 1:3 Scale Samurai Sword (Miyamoto Musashi)

    23/33

use a very rough brush, dun use nice & soft brush, just dip a bit of paint and remove excess paint with tissue paper until left

    like 5%

here's the result, IMO very easy to overdone, mean only sees dark iron and no black patches

    Entau- January 21, 2011 04:05 AM (GMT)

koo, the boxart look like pasar malam toy sword

okay, this is the crack i posted before

  • 7/26/2019 1:3 Scale Samurai Sword (Miyamoto Musashi)

    29/33

put some superglue on the crack

carefully sand off with 600 & 800 grit

  • 7/26/2019 1:3 Scale Samurai Sword (Miyamoto Musashi)

    30/33

    done, not perfect...but u can tell i dun really k :P

drybrush the kogatanas with aluminium metalizer, then buff again with the black chrome powder, not really what i what,

    might redo this

  • 7/26/2019 1:3 Scale Samurai Sword (Miyamoto Musashi)

    31/33

2000 wetsand and then polished the saya (scabbard) with tamiya coarse & fine compound, the top is without polish

the reflection is much sharper & clearer

    Entau- May 17, 2011 03:56 AM (GMT)

    okay, final updates....

rubbed the sword with the chrome powder...still thinking of adding the 'wave' effect, but not sure how yet :P

    kuman- May 17, 2011 04:36 AM (GMT)

    wah.. so shiny..

    bring this to SMM 2011?

    kuman :)

    sky_tokyodrifter- May 17, 2011 04:52 AM (GMT)

this is really nice man :o i have to try to build me self one of these katanas.

Make the handle a bit "used" effect to give that antique look then people will believe its real.

I think you can achieve the wave blade pattern but not sure at this stage because it was suppose to be done before using the

chrome powder. For the blades you use super clear so that it shines like hell like what you did and for the blade wave, usesemi clear as base coat so that when you apply the chrome powder, it does not reflect that much to the wavy areas giving a

boundary of bling bling chrome and non bling wavy chrome. Test it on a spoon ^_^

    Entau- May 17, 2011 05:53 AM (GMT)

no problem, the powder can be remove using water & soap, then just buff again :P

kuman, i'll try..but i had no idea this built belongs to which category
