USING THIS TEMPLATEThis is a simple template for creating and formatting modules in CANVAS.

If using a PC, you can simply use the template as is. This will allow us to copy and paste what you have created into CANVAS. This template uses Headings to organize content. This is something we have to do for various reasons. So, please leave the titles of each section as is.

The following module content template is included in this document:

Overview Pages Review Pages Discussions Assignments (Note: You will need to change this language depending on how you wish students to report

back to you) Sample Project Preparation & Submission Pages

While it might be fun to play with font sizes and colors, we highly suggest that you limit this for accessibility reasons. Colors should be high contrast. Light (Light) colors are hard to read. Using the size of a font for titles/subtitles makes it difficult for assistive technology to navigate through a text and help the user understand the structure of a page, so it is best to stick to BOLD and italics when placing emphasis on text.

This template has been developed with language that is consistent across all of PCC’s Online Model Courses – this allows for students to easily understand and navigate through their courses, and helps to provide a coherent flow to the course content. Feel free to use this language in your own course(s) as needed!

Since some word processing programs will not allow for easy text entry into Word document fields, the areas that have been highlighted on this document indicate the places where you will enter in your own content. Building your course is easier if you follow the instructions for each area as needed and take out the highlighting and italics when finished. Doing so will help you more easily build your content into CANVAS.

A best practice for online/hybrid courses is to allow one week for students to complete and submit their assignments and to post their initial discussion a few days after the course module has released. This template is based on the following weekly structure:

Module Release: Monday Initial Discussion Posts: Thursday 11:59 PM Responses for Discussion Post: Sunday 11:59 PM Additional Assignments/Course Content/Projects: Sunday 11:59 PM
