How the Folding Fan was measuredAs the fan is not very complicated in volume to measure, most of the dimensions were taken with a steel ruler (and some with a plastic ruler). As the rulers were a standard 30 cm in length the plan of the fan in open for had to be mea-sured with a longer tape measure.

All individual parts of the object could be accurately measured without compromising the structural integrity of the object as a whole, meaning it did not have to be taken apart in order for the rulers to get accurate measurements. The area of the separate parts however could not be obtained without separating them, especially as the paper could not fully return to a flat state still attached to the folding structure.
