Parish Staff Changes
For a variety of reasons, some of them planned and some
unplanned, we are experiencing a number of changes in our
parish staff. I would like to take the opportunity to inform the
parish of these changes. First, I want to let you know of some
departures from the staff. Anne Plüs who worked in the parish
office in a number of capacities has moved from Murfreesboro.
This move was long-planned and has finally arrived. Leaving
Saint Rose from the formation team is Jenny Morris, who is
likewise relocating from Murfreesboro. She will be assuming new
responsibilities in Chattanooga. We thank Anne and Jenny for their years of
service to the parish and wish them well in their new endeavors.
With these departures from the staff, the reorganization of our finance
department, as well as new positions, there are a number of additions and shifts
in responsibilities on the staff. A few months ago, I announced that we were
looking for a business manager for the parish. Kim Smith, a long-time staff
member, is our new business manager and has been in this new role for a
couple of months now. The business manager has oversight of not only
bookkeeping and financial matters but of all business operations of the parish:
HR, for example. To support her, we have hired a new full-time bookkeeper,
Jodi Jones. Jodi is a CPA and has served on the school board and recently on
the parish finance council as well. There will also be a part-time hire for the
finance office yet to be filled.
I am happy to announce that a full-time music director has been hired and will
begin in July. This role has been vacant since before I arrived at Saint Rose,
and we thank Madalynne Skelton for her service in this long interim period of
coordinating music for the parish. Isaac Johnson is our new music director. He
will be in charge of our music program, both in forming choirs, scholas, and
cantors, as well as serving as principal organist. He is a Murfreesboro native
and was educated at Samford University and at Yale University. He and his wife
and baby will be relocating to Murfreesboro from Connecticut in time for him to
begin work in July. Isaac brings not only impressive credentials but also parish
experience and enthusiasm.
Another planned hire is the new director of catechesis to oversee and support
our parish catechetical programs from childhood through adult offerings. Ben
Smith, formerly on the faculty at Aquinas College and at Belmont University, will
be taking up this role by the beginning of June. He will also be relocating to
Murfreesboro. With Jenny's departure, we will rely on Michaela Miller to focus
on her passion for youth and young adult ministries. She will continue to help
with other needs within the department of catechesis.
In the parish office itself, Amy Swartz has moved into a new role of director of
administration and stewardship. She will be overseeing and facilitating the
ministerial activities in the parish, the bulletin, as well as the coordination of
schedules and facilities and a host of other details. Laurie McNicholas has
oversight of our sacramental records as well as the records and progress of our
sacramental and catechetical programs. Laurie is also one of the cheerful faces
and voices encountered on the phone or at the desk in the office. Sandra
Middleton is also serving in the receptionist role on some days, and she brings
fluency in both English and Spanish to better serve our diverse parish.
In the area of athletics, Bill Wright will be serving as our parish athletic director
with responsibility not only for the school program but also for incorporating
athletic involvement throughout the parish. Bill is recently retired and has been
involved in the Saint Rose athletic community as a coach and parent for many
years. In a similar joint school/parish role, Leslie Iorio has been serving as
school counselor this year but with the plan of providing programs helpful to
individuals and families in the parish. Leslie has extensive experience in clinical
counseling.
We are blessed in the parish with qualified and mission-driven individuals to
serve God and the parish well!
Faithfully,
Fr. Baker

MINISTERIO HISPANO
Dejando a Saint Rose
Murfreesboro. Ella asumirá nuevas responsabilidades en Chattanooga. Agradecemos a Anne y
Él estará a
Isaac no solo
Fielmente,

HAITI
For over a year our agronomist, Renold Charles, and school principal, Vilius
Borne, have successfully led our garden project with the children of Notre Dame
de la Merci School in Robillard. We have been thrilled with the progress they
have made and are excited to see that they have a greater vision in mind. In
early May, they hosted a celebration at the school inviting the students, parents
and members of the community to participate. They used this opportunity to
teach about the importance of agriculture in Haiti. A table was set up displaying a
variety of fruits, vegetables and legumes which have been successfully grown in
the school garden, hoping to inspire the participants to see the value of starting
their own garden. Renold brought in three additional agronomists to help with the
celebration. It was very much a hands on experience for the community as they
attended presentations teaching the basic principles of gardening. They were
also taken into the garden to learn proper techniques for planting and given
seeds to take home to implement the skills they learned. In addition to the
education they received, everyone was fed a delicious meal and entertained by
the school band as they marched through the school grounds. We are so
thankful for the inspiration and enthusiasm Renold and Vilius continue to
demonstrate towards the school and community and ask for continued prayers
as they move forward. Alicia Russell

completion could be as early as July 12. Depending upon weather, the project
could continue as late as August 3.
Because there will be debris and dirty water coming down from the roof area, the
"senior parking" in front of the church office will be roped off intermittently during
the week of June 3rd-7th and June 10th. The parking will not be blocked during
the weekend Masses. The back grotto area will not be available on these same
dates at all due to heavy construction equipment being parked in that area.
Shepherd's Hallway will be partially closed the week of June 10th -14th during
the day. This will limit the side entrance access to the church during working
hours but will be usable for late night adorers to continue to access the church.
The Chapel / Cry Room will not be available at all beginning on June 3rd and
ending upon project completion.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as these badly needed repairs
are completed.
