ACTIVITIES OF IEEE-WIE, DELHI SECTION FOR THE YEAR 2011 (1 st January 2011- 31 st December 2011) The year 2011 has been a very eventful year for the WIE affinity group, Delhi Section. This year total 15 activities are reported by the group. Along with these activities, to know the status and the aspirations of women, a survey on “Gender Equality in Science and Technology” had been carried out. The summary of the activities are: Administrative Activities: 04 Technical Activities: 07 Non-technical Activities: 04 The WIE, Delhi section has been selected by the IEEE R-10 WIE for PROGRESS Fund. The WIE JMI student branch has been selected for STAR Fund. Also, to encourage the WIE affinity group, the Delhi section had nominated Dr. Rachana Garg, Chair WIE, Delhi section to attend the Student/Gold/WIE Congress at Auckland in July 2011. The year 2011 has been a very eventful year for the WIE affinity group, Delhi Section. This year total 15 activities are reported by the group. Along with these activities, to know the status and the aspirations of women, a survey on “Gender Equality in Science and Technology” had been carried out. The summary of the activities are:

14th January, 2011

Workshop on “Analog Tool of Cadence tool Bundle"

A one daylong workshop on “Analog Tool of Cadence tool Bundle" is organised on January 14, 2011 (Friday) from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm in the VLSI CAD LAB, DTU, Delhi. It is attended by 10 IEEE Members & 20 Guests

24th January, 2011 

Cloth distribution

WIE Delhi section has distributed old woollen clothes to the people living in slums on 24th Jan.2011 at Rohini, N.Delhi.

                            

 

 

 

 

2nd February, 2011 

Half day workshop on 'Upkeeping of household Electrical Appliances' The half day workshop on 'Upkeeping of household Electrical Appliances' is organized at Central School, Sec 25, Rohini, New Delhi. The girl students have been given training about electrical circuitries and different components used in household appliances, with a view to make them able to do small repairs. The program was attended by 45 students and 8 IEEE members.

                                       

2nd February, 2011 

Debate on , 'There should be reservation for women in higher education'

A debate on the topic, 'There should be reservation for women in higher education', organised in association with WIE DTU student branch at Senate Hall, DTU. Teams from various engineering colleges in and around Delhi took part in the competition. The prizes are given to the best contestants who speak for the motion and against the motion. The program was attended by 35 guests and 15 IEEE members.

                   

 

3rd February, 2011 

Inward Bound

A NGO 'Pravah' was invited on 3rd Feb 2011, at DTU to counsel the students about various aspects of their personalities. They had brought many charts describing the basic human traits. They also have brought questionnaire and on the basis of the response of students to these questionnaire, his/her personality is assessed and the suggestions are given to improve the personality. About 100 guests and 25 IEEE members attended the program.

                            

4th February, 2011

WIE MEET 

A meet of WIE affinity groups of all the student branches under Delhi section was organised by WIE, Delhi section on 4th Feb.2011 at Senate Hall, DTU. The student WIE affinity groups of various colleges like NSIT, BVCOE, IGIT, DTU, JMI etc. have participated in it. The branches gave short presentations about their student branch affinity group. The challenges faced by different affinity groups and their high points were discussed. Also some small games were organised as ice breaking session. The students enjoyed them tremendously. 35 IEEE members had attended the meet.

 

 

4th February, 2011 

Panel Discussion on "The role of women in decision making in their organisations"

A panel discussion on "The role of women in decision making in their organisations" is organised at Senate hall, DTU on 4th Feb.2011.The panellists are the well-known personalities from Industries and academia. The panel discussion was well attended by the students and faculty members. 30 guests and 25 IEEE members attended the discussion.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IEEE Delhi Section WIE Affinity Group

Administrative

Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IEEE Delhi Section WIE Affinity Group in India International Centre (Annexe) Auditorium from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm on April 03, 2011 (Sunday) with 2 Members in attendance.

19th May, 2011 

1st Execom of WIE Affinity Group of IEEE Delhi Section Administrative IEEE Delhi Section WIE Affinity Group in EE Deptt IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on May 19, 2011 (Thursday) with 5 Members in attendance. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss the future activities of the affinity group.

Executive committee meeting of WIE affinity group, Delhi section

Administrative

The second WIE Execom meeting is held at 12:30 PM. The format of the meeting was e-meeting.

30th September:

Computer training program for the children of weaker section Technical

A week long computer training program has been organised for the children of weaker section of society. The program starts from 30th Sept 2011 at Child Home, Badli from 3pm to 5 pm. This program is organised with a thought of making these children acquire some skill which can help them in their studies as well as to create a interest in computers which may help them in future in making them self sufficient. 12 guests and 3 IEEE members attended the training program.

1st October:

Half Day workshop on "Maths made easy"

Technical

A half day workshop on "Maths made Easy" is organised for girl students of Govt.co-ed senior secondary school, Shahbad Dairy to develop their interest in mathematics. In India girls of the weaker section are still not encouraged to take up Maths, as traditionally it is considered to be a subject best suited for boys. Later on a counselling session for the students was also held in which different career options were discussed. 37 guests and 4 IEEE members were present.

10th October:

WIE IEEE SCIENCE WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS OF WEAKER SECTIONS Technical

The main motive of the workshop was to increase awareness and impart knowledge to the students of different science experiments like working of torch and principle of inertia. An experiment on air pressure to show how air pressure nullifies gravitational force on water fascinated the students. This will help in creating interest in science. 4o guests and 4 IEEE members were present.

12th October:

Workshop on Self Defence

Nontechnical

A two days workshop on 'Self Defence' has been organised at DTU. This workshop is conducted by 'Crime against Women Cell' of Delhi Police on 12th and 13th Oct. 2011 from 11am -1pm. As now a days, sometimes, women has to work late at nights and this workshop aims at training them to safeguard against any untoward incident. About 25 girls took part in this program.

23rd September:

Industrial visit to National Load Dispatch Centre

Technical The students of Delhi technological University had gone for an industrial visit to National Load Dispatch Centre and had learned about the power flow through various regions and control of power over various lines. Such Industrial visits help the students in understanding the practical application side of the course. The visit was open for IEEE student members only. 28 students went for the visit
