The study of "brainwaves" has played a vital role in the understanding of how the brain and mind function.

Discovered in the 1920s by German researcher Hans Berger, these tiny electrical signals mirror the shifting patterns of mental activity.

In the 1940s researcher Gray Walter discovered that brainwave activity tends to mirror flickering light, particularly in the alpha and theta frequencies. This effect has become known as the "frequency-following effect" that lead towards the photic stimulation.

HISTORY

Page 3: 2 BRAIN WAVES STIMULANT

Photic stimulation is the use of a flickering light at various frequencies to influence the pattern of the occipital electroencephalogram and also to activate latent abnormalities.

Research conducted at the Monroe Institute (Germany) and elsewhere suggests that Photic stimulation can synchronize the activity of the left and right hemispheres of your brain.

Brainwaves Stimulant mask is a form of portable stroboscope, using red Light Emitting Diodes to alternately illuminate the right and left eyes, with the eyelids closed, at a rate of 4 to 13 Hz. The mask is connected to a control box by means of which the user can control the frequency and intensity of illumination.

Here's how one of our volunteer patient describes the

experience of using BWS machine:

You sit down comfortably, wear the mask, flip a switch, close your eyes and sink into a state of what seems like deep relaxation.15 minutes later, as you turn off the machine, you feel extremely alert and lucid.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN OF BWS

Page 7: 2 BRAIN WAVES STIMULANT

When the BWS is turned ON the algorithm runs from the initializing of LCD.

Until it gets the true logic from user to START, the loop continues.

When the true logic is achieved the microcontrollers activates the input and output pins and proceed to the alpha or theta region selection.

Then it displays the frequency range according to the chosen alpha or theta region.

The frequency varies and display from ascending order of respected region, and finally gives the output.

If the Timer is activated externally by the user then the BWS is automatically shutdown according to the selection of timer, and resets

•Patient’s Pre and post therapy data recoding for research analysis.

•The patient must kept in a very comfort place for therapy procedure.

•After fixing BWS on the patient, therapy will start for 5/10/15 mins and he/she must focus on the LEDs while eyelids kept close during therapy.

Globally, 1 in 4 (25%), suffer from mental disorders in both developed and developing countries. Four of the six leading causes of years lived with disability are depression, alcohol use disorder and bipolar disorder. (World Health Organization (WHO), 2013)

MENTAL ILLNESS ISSUES AND FUTURE SCOPE OF BWS

Page 13: 2 BRAIN WAVES STIMULANT

By 2020, depression is projected to be the leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide.

The global cost of mental illness is estimated at nearly $2.5 trillion (T) (2/3 in indirect costs) in 2010, with a projected increase to over $6T by 2030.

(National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), WHO, 2013)

Worldwide, someone commits suicide every 40 seconds. About 1 million die by suicide every year. (WHO, 2012)

Mental health problems are more common than cancer and heart disease combined. (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA))

CONCLUSION WITH BWS

BWS stimulation is a medication free therapy so there are no side effect.

BWS generate “The frequency with which the vis-cortex, b-stem and other brain associated areas are stimulate with flickering light, the brain will start to response at same frequency” ... Migraine patients have neuro vascular constriction therefore BWS increase metabolic rate and oxygen supply will increase towards panic areas.
