I welcome the opportunity for you to explore the many activities, of the Beta Lambda Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated has to share. Within this report hopefully you will be in-spired by our servitude to the community without any of the frills and glorification -- just honest builders, friends and leaders in the community that encompass "Strength, Stature and Swagger".

Beta Lambda Sigma understands our purpose as being a part of the solution in the Tallahassee community. As you will see, we are part of the community and intend to be an active participant to community events that support, improve and develop our young people and the communities that they live in. It is my hope that we continue the fight to combat the ills of poor educational opportunities, health problems and diminishing morale. Beta Lambda Sigma always seeks to fulfill our motto - "Culture for Service and Service for Humanity" and hope that we can make a difference.

The men of the Beta Lambda Sigma Chapter have encompassed the ideas of the fra-ternity, by putting together events and activities that provide services to the Tallahassee community. Our Social Action programs are intended to educate the community as well as provide much needed community service and awareness. Our Education Programs seek not only to education, but to inform the community about the issues that are important to the Tallahassee community. Our Bigger and Better Business programs seek to bring awareness to the community about issues that affect all of us, in addition to highlighting being business partners in our community.

This report only provides a small glimpse to what the Beta Lambda Sigma Chapter offers to the Tallahassee community. Hopefully you will be inspired by the events and activities used to build relationships and partnerships within the community.

Sigma Week 2K10

efore any great endeavor all men, especially the men of the Beta Lambda Sigma Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity inc., must implore the blessing of the Lord. this is exactly what took place on Sunday, June 13th 2010 at New Harvest Christian Center located at

6205 Woodville Highway in tallahassee. the brothers of Beta Lambda Sigma started off the great week of activities with attending this Christian facility that is overseen by Pastor ray C. Brown. the church service began at 10:30 a.m. and was filled with church members and approximately 30 brothers in total from Beta Lambda Sigma Alumni Chapter and the two collegiate chapters of mu epsilon of Florida State university and Alpha eta of Florida A & m university.

inspiration coupled with encouragement from the word that was received on this day propelled the men of the Beta Lambda Sigma Chapter to under-stand that all things must and will be done according to the will of the Lord Jesus Christ. this understanding will keep “our cause speeding on its way”.

onlookers who were comprised of their friends, family, and members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. the competition was fierce but all in all, the contestants walked away understanding the relevance of research, public speaking, and healthy living.

Beta Lambda Sigma Strikes Again for DiabetesHaving a family history of this affliction gave me the inspiration to create an event that would spark a positive change when it comes to our society and this epidemic. We must continually strive to educate, empower and influence society so that we can change our plight. – Brother Nathaniel Williams“ ”n Wednesday, June 16th the Beta

Lambda Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, incorpo-rated sponsored their 3rdAnnual

“Bowling for Diabetes” at Capital Lanes from 6-9 pm. this event was part of the week-long of festivities during their annual Alumni Sigma Week which is normally scheduled during the third week of June. A “brainchild” of Brother Nathaniel Williams, he thought it was necessary to develop a philanthrop-ic event that encourages the tallahassee community to rally around this disease particularly since he suffers from type 2 diabetes.

Over seventy-five participants registered approximately twenty teams in an effort to raise awareness and funds for tmH’s Diabe-tes Camp, located in gretna, FL (just north of tallahassee) is an annual weeklong camp-ing experience for children with diabetes. teams from tmH to the FAmu Foundation all pitched in, got their bowling shoes, and tried their best to roll strikes not gutter balls! “it was truly amazing to see the growth of the event from last year to this year” said Brother errick Farmer, President of the Beta Lambda Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fra-ternity, inc.

Beta Lambda Sigma Strikes Again for Diabetes

”tallahassee memorial Diabetes Center has been sponsoring a camp for with diabetes for over 15 years. the goal of the camp is to have children with diabetes interact and gain support with their peers, and to foster self-confidence in managing their diabetes. education is provided at age appropriate levels and the participants are expected to grow in their learning of eating healthy and being cognizant about their dietary needs.

in the end, everyone enjoyed themselves and seemed pleased by the outcome. A number of participants said that they would definitely attend next year’s event and would bring more of their friends, co-workers and colleagues. For more information about “Bowling for Diabetes” or other efforts by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity in tallahassee, visit www.tallahasseesigmas.net.

We are so excited and appreciative to have the ‘Bowling for Diabetes’ fundraiser held for Diabetes Camp this year. The proceeds from this event will go towards scholarships for camp that will allow children with diabetes to swim, play, eat, sleep, learn, and have so much fun with other kids that are just like them! Many of these kids would not have this opportunity without the support of committed organizations such as the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
