Over two dozen presentations and panel discussions covered every aspect of the vast world of open water swimming. The conference was an unprecedented opportunity for open water swimming enthusiasts and decision-makers from all over the world to network, share information and learn the latest and most up-to-date training, tactics and techniques for open water swimming as a solo swimmer, competition athlete, masters swimmer, triathlete or multi- sport athlete. The Conference kicked off with two engaging speeches: The Art of Open Water Swimming by 7-time world swimming champion Shelley Taylor- Smith of Australia The Magic of Open Water Swimming by extreme adventure swimmer Ram Barkai of South Africa In addition to the keynote speeches, attendees enjoyed 24 presentations, panel discussions, video analysis of world-class open water swimmers, awards ceremonies, a unique Open Water Swimming Almanac, an Italian dinner and could participate in the Drafting, Positioning, Navigating and Pacing Clinics held in Santa Monica Beach, Corona del Mar Beach and in Marine Stadium in Long Beach. 2010 Global Open Water Swimming Conference

The 2010 Global Open Water Swimming Conference was held to great acclaim on June 5that the Long Beach Marriott Hotel in Southern California where an international gathering ofopen water swimming and triathlon athletes, coaches, officials, administrators, race directors,physicians, commentators, scientists, fans and enthusiasts arrived from around the world.Over two dozen presentations and panel discussions covered every aspect of the vast worldof open water swimming. The conference was an unprecedented opportunity for open waterswimming enthusiasts and decision-makers from all over the world to network, shareinformation and learn the latest and most up-to-date training, tactics and techniques for openwater swimming as a solo swimmer, competition athlete, masters swimmer, triathlete or multi-sport athlete.

The Conference kicked off with two engaging speeches:

The Art of Open Water Swimming by 7-time world swimming champion Shelley Taylor-Smith of Australia

The Magic of Open Water Swimming by extreme adventure swimmer Ram Barkai ofSouth Africa

USA Triathlon offered seven Continuing Education Units for USAT certified coaches whoattend the Conference. USA Triathlon described the conference as "... bringing together the world’s foremo st experts on open water swimming including prominent triathlon coaches and personalities. World open water swimming champions, English Channel world record holders, top professional marathon swimmers and some of the most decorated Olympic coaches will share their experiences, insights and recommendations on how to prepare optimally, train intelligently and race well in the open water ."

In addition, based on a global poll sponsored by blueseventy of over 35,000 open waterswimmers from 153 countries, the 2009 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year (toPetar Stoychev of Bulgaria ), the 2009 World Open Water Swimming Women of the Year (toPoliana Okimoto of Brazil) and the 2009 World Open Water Swimming Performance of theYear (to Andrew Smilley of Cayman Islands ) were officially announced and recognized bytheir peers. The results of the poll are at The Water Is Open . blueseventy has also donatedelegantly designed trophies to recognize their remarkable achievements.These awards were followed by a special announcement of Lifetime Achievement Awardwinners (Siga Rose, Greta Anderson and Dan Empfield) and an Italian dinner in the hotel.

Conference attendees included accomplished individuals from Australia, Azerbaijan,Bangladesh, Canada, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, NewZealand, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago and throughout the United States.

The fee for the Global Open Water Swimming Conference was $175. This fee included:
