If You Can’t Be Famous, Be InfamousThe razzle-dazzle music and dancing of Chicago took Broadway by storm in 1975, and continues to sizzle in productions around the world. The 1997 Broadway revival won six Tony Awards, and the 2003 film version won Best Picture. Now, for the first time, the razzle-dazzle of Chicago comes to the Dock Street Theatre stage to open Charleston Stage’s 34th season.

A Wacky Walk Down the Street of Life“One of the funniest shows you’re ever likely to see” raved Entertainment Weekly when this off-beat and imaginative musical grabbed the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2004. Featuring naughty puppets, live performers, and an award-winning score, Avenue Q follows the adventures and misadventures of a fresh-faced college graduate named Princeton who sets out for the big city to find his purpose in life. But young Princeton still has lessons to learn, and the freaky, furry folks who live on Avenue Q are only too happy to guide him on his way.

In early 1942, Navy Ensign Jack Kennedy andhis current fling, Danish blond bombshell andsuspected Nazi spy, Inga Arvad, planned a clandestine tryst at the Fort Sumter House Hotel in Charleston, SC. Reporters from Life Magazine were soon on the prowl, and FBI agents were listening in from next door. Based on true events, comic fireworks explode in this highly imaginative, highly speculative, and rollicking World Premiere screwball comedy by Charleston Stage Founder, Julian Wiles. More fun than a walk on the Appalachian Trail.

Ease On Down, Ease On Down the RoadThis imaginative romp through Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz captured seven Tony Awards when it opened on Broadway in 1975. After becoming a film with Diana Ross in 1978, it was largely forgotten. But The Wiz’s clever retelling of the Oz Story and its acclaimed sassy score (Ease on Down the Road, Believe in Yourself, Don’t Nobody Bring Me No Bad News) are too memorable to be forgotten. Just over the rainbow, the magical world of The Wiz awaits. Rediscover this legendary Broadway triumph in Charleston Stage’s imaginative multi-cultural production.
