SO YOU ARE GOING TO PARTICIPATE IN A RELAY?

MOST RELAYS HAVE BATONS BUT THIS YEAR RELAY

IS CHANGING. RATHER THAN BATONS WE WILL HAVE BELT BUCKLES…YES…BELT BUCKLES!!!

THE PERSON REPRESENTING YOUR TEAM ON THE

TRACK WILL NEED TO CARRY OR WEAR YOUR PERSONALLY DESIGNED “OLD WEST RELAY” BELT BUCKLE. THE PERSON WITH THE BELT BUCKLE IS

THE ONLY PERSON THAT CAN PICK UP BEADS FOR COUNTING LAPS (see this page).

AS RELAYERS, WE DON’T WANT ANY “NORMAL”

BELT BUCKLE. RELAYERS WANT SPECIAL BELT BUCKLES THAT MAKE THEM UNIQUE FROM ALL THE OTHERS. PAINT, DECORATE, OR ADORN YOUR BELT

BUCKLE WITH WHATEVER SPECIAL DECORATIONS YOU LIKE. YOUR BELT BUCKLE WILL BE JUDGED AND

THE TEAM WITH THE MOST UNIQUE BELT BUCKLE WILL WIN 3,000 RELAY BUCKS!!

REMEMBER THE THEME!!

Cancer Awareness Colors at Relay!!

Lap Counting will be done with beads this year. Each hour a different cancer will be represented by its color. Only the person officially walking/running (adorned with your Team Belt Buckle) during the Relay can collect the beads. The Team with the most beads will win “Most Laps Walked Award!!” Survivorship and Awareness Purple 6 – 7 p.m. Breast Pink 7 – 8 p.m. Colon Dark Blue 8 – 9 p.m. Lung White 9 – 10 p.m. Lymphoma Light Green 11 – 12 p.m. Childhood Cancer Metallic Gold 12 – 1 a.m. Ovarian Teal 1 – 2 a.m. Leukemia Lime Green 2 – 3 a.m. Testicular Light Purple 3 – 4 a.m. Oral/Head/Neck Burgundy 4 – 5 a.m. Prostate Light Blue 5 – 6 a.m. Melanoma Black 6 – 7 a.m. Brain Gray 7 – 8 a.m. Liver Green 8 – 9 a.m. Bladder Yellow 9 – 10 a.m. Uterine Peach 10 – 11 a.m.

Invite, cont. from page 1 dream I have. Ten percent of the population of the United States

is cancer survivors. If we consider Mesa County alone, that

would mean that there are 1,500 cancer survivors in Mesa

County. We usually have around 250-300 walk in our Cancer

Survivor Lap. I have a dream that EVERY Cancer Survivor in

Mesa County would walk in our Survivor’s Lap…wouldn’t that

be amazing???!!! Please invite all the Cancer Survivors you know

(AND their Caregivers). I would love to run out of Cancer

Survivor T-Shirts this year!!! However, don’t worry, if we run out

then we will have rain checks available!! Thank you!! ♥

LUMINARIA Don’t forget the 10 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony at the Relay. Honor those who are battling cancer and remember those

that cancer has taken from us. You can obtain more bags from us at the Team Captain’s meetings, at the American Cancer Society Office, or contact me at the email below. Forms can be obtained on the Team Captain’s Resources Tab

on the website.

Teams Make Gift Baskets For Cancer Survivors

Bernadine Sherman (260-0341)

2011 Relay For Life Event Survivor/Caregiver Chair

This year we are going to try something new and different in an effort to engage Team Captains and Survivors at Relay. We are asking each Team to draw upon your creativity and prepare a gift basket for cancer survivors. The baskets can include absolutely anything, but we are asking Teams not to spend more than $25.00/basket. Donations in the basket are welcome to reduce the cost. Bring the gift baskets to the Relay For Life on Friday June 17th before 6:00 p.m. to the Survivor/Caregiver Tent in the center of the field. You can’t miss it! Survivors will be provided Relay Bucks that they will use to vote on their favorite gift basket. They can distribute their “votes” however, they like. The Teams will be rewarded with the Relay Buck votes!!. Once the voting is over the baskets will be used as door prizes and the winning basket will be given to the Honorary Chair, Greg Wentzel. Survivors will be asked to visit the Team that made their basket. So, please have a tag attached to your

basket with your Team Name. Good luck and Thank You!! ♥
