NEW NEBOSH Oil and Gas Certificate CourseRRC are really excited to announce that our NEBOSH Oil and Gas Certificate course will be available later this month.

There’s a real buzz about this course – it’s full title is the NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety and it‘s focussed on the specific safety issues encountered within the Oil and Gas industry.

Recognised around the world, the course is based on international standards and best practice so you can apply your knowledge to any onshore or offshore installation, wherever you are.

We are offering three study options for the NEBOSH Oil and Gas Certificate so you can choose the study method that suits you best – e-learning, distance learning (flexible courses - study when and where it suits you) and face-to-face (taught courses available in London, Bahrain, Dubai and in-company).

More information will be available shortly on our website, www.rrc.co.uk or call us on +44 (0)20 8944 3100.

FREE Publication on the Seveso II Directive Available NowNamed after the 1976 Seveso accident, the Seveso II Directive deals specifically with the control of accident hazards involving large quantities of dangerous substances. It applies to thousands of industrial establishments where such substances are present, e.g. in the oil and gas and chemical industries.

In December 2010 the European Commission issued a draft proposal to replace the Seveso II Directive, with the intention of strengthening the legislation and aligning it with recent changes in chemical classification.

Our latest Technical Update will give you all the information you need on the EC’s proposal - and the best news is that it’s completely FREE. All you need to do is visit www.rrc.co.uk and then click on the ‘Free Resources’ area.

Safety and Health Expo - May 2011A quick reminder that we will be at the NEC in Birmingham later this month (17-19 May) at the Safety and Health Expo 2011. Several members of RRC (including our MD Gary and the infamous David Towlson) will be on hand to meet as many of you as possible - and hand out lots of FREE giveaways too.

We’ve got lots planned for this year’s Expo, such as FREE course material sample booklets (including a sneak preview of the new NEBOSH International Diploma material we are working on at the moment) and a chance to play our interactive “Spot the Hazard” game against the clock, with a prize available for the fastest hazard spotter! There will also be the opportunity to try some of our e-learning courses for yourself, and pick up lots of information about the individual and corporate training solutions we offer.

The RRC stand will be located in Hall 2 - we hope to see lots of you there.

Visit www.safety-health-expo.co.uk for full event details.

IEMA Face-to-Face Courses After the success of the IEMA courses we launched last year we are now extending our range of IEMA training to include face-to-face courses for the IEMA Foundation and Associate Certificates.

Courses will be available in London and Dubai (through RRC Middle East), and for in-company groups training can be delivered at your own premises.

As always, RRC maintain the highest standards on our face-to-face courses. Our tutors are enthusiastic and friendly - and are always experts in their field - and our course resources are first-class (in fact, they’re so good that many other approved training providers license them for use on their own courses).

Full course dates and fees available soon.

IEMA qualifications are a must for environmental practitioners across a wide range of industries. As well as face-to-face training, we also offer IEMA courses by e-learning and distance learning. These courses include the ultimate convenience; the option to complete the final examination online. This is the section of the e-newsletter where we focus on any important updates to your course. Please review the following carefully for anything which may impact your studies.

NEBOSH National DiplomaUnit A - Element A1The Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register is now live to search. The Web address is http://www.oshcr.org/.

Unit BWe have recently amended the study material for this unit to include additional coverage of:

• The three main types of leucocytes (Element B1).

• Respiratory inflammation (Element B1).

• Standardised diagnostic tests for HAVS (Element B6).

Please refer to the Supplement by clicking on the following link.

Unit B Supplement

Students on e-learning courses should note that these amendments have already been included in the online version of the course materials.

NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental ManagementUnit ED1We have recently updated the study material for Element 3 to cover ISO 14005:2010, Environmental management systems – Guidelines for the phased implementation of an environmental management system, including the use of environmental performance evaluation.

In your copy of Element 3, in the section on Systematic Approach to Environmental Risk Management and after the text on BS 8555, please add the following:

“ISO 14005:2010

ISO 14005:2010, Environmental management systems – Guidelines for the phased implementation of an environmental management system, including the use of environmental performance evaluation, provides guidance on another phased EMS implementation approach. The standard has been designed to allow

organisations to develop, implement and maintain an EMS that meets the requirements of ISO 14001 and EMAS. The ISO 14005 Guideline contains 71 steps to achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification and 80 steps to achieve certification to the latest version of EMAS. The international standard’s approach can be used by any organisation, regardless of its level of development, its activities, or its location. The standard also contains advice on the development and use of environmental performance evaluation techniques.

There are a number of similarities between ISO 14005 and BS 8555. However, ISO 14005 has been criticised due to its complexity. CEN, the European Standards Board, rejected adopting the standard, meaning that national standards bodies in Europe such as BSI can choose whether or not to adopt the standard or continue using BS 8555. The UK voted against the adoption of ISO 14005 at the ISO meeting in addition to a number of other countries, as it was seen to be inferior to BS 8555.”

Other recent developments relevant to your course include:

• The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 (Elements 4, 5 and 9).

• Changes to the Landfill Tax rates (Element 9).

• Changes to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (Element 15).

• The Aviation Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) Regulations 2011 (Element 15).

We will be updating the study material to cover these developments and will notify you of the necessary amendments. In the meantime you may find it useful to refer to the following brief summary:
