The Auburn University Horse CenterThe Auburn Horse Center, home of the Auburn Eques-trian Team, is part of the Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Agriculture. This spacious 60-acre facili-ty is conveniently located on the edge of campus, making it easily accessible for student-athletes, faculty and staff.

This ideal location is a fi ve minute drive for most student-athletes, and a transit stop is located across the street. The Horse Center offers two side-by-side arenas for equestrian practices and meets. This allows for both the western and hunt seat teams to ride simultaneously without interference.

The Horse Center has played host to equestrian home meets since 2002 and hosted the 2010 Southern Equestrian Championships. It will also host the inaugural Southeastern Conference Equestrian Championships March 29-30, 2013. As Auburn Equestrian looks to the future, the team hopes to begin construction on a new facility in the same location as the current center. The new facility would boast indoor, outdoor and covered arenas, as well as classrooms, research laboratories and barns. It would combine teaching, research and athletics in the study and performance of human and equine athletes. The facility would be the only in the country to offer these three components together.

Auburn University is committed to maintain-ing the highest standard of academic excel-lence. Auburn’s academic curriculum is recog-nized nationally and internationally by leading education publications for its services in pre-paring students for challenges of the future.

Auburn student-athletes excel because of one of the top student support service programs in the country. The program includes a staff of seven full-time Academic Counselors, two Learning Specialists and two Eligibility Specialists.

Charlotte G. LowderStudent Athlete Development Center

The Charlotte G. Lowder Student Athlete Development Center, with 33,000 square feet of dedicated space to students and learning, gives Auburn University the physical infrastructure that allows the ability to implement and expand the array of programs designed to enhance the academic performance of Auburn student-athletes. Located adjacent to the Auburn Athletic Complex, the facility is centrally located for easy ac-cess for all Tiger athletic teams.

Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) professionals provide direction for student-athletes via academic counseling in conjunction with advi-sors from the respective Dean’s offi ces at Auburn University. Academic support services such as tutoring and supervised study table are also provided, as well as career planning, monitoring of eligibility status, and a host of other guidance and advisory services.

Each student-athlete is assigned to a Student-Athlete Support Services Counselor for their entire tenure of study at Auburn University. The SASS Counselors also help familiarize student-athletes with Auburn Uni-versity, Southeastern Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures.

The SASS Eligibility Coordinator is charged with keeping records of progress toward graduation, as well as keeping abreast of SEC, NCAA, and Auburn University criteria for academic eligibility.

It is the mission of the Offi ce of Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) of the Auburn University Athletics Department to promote, assist, and provide counsel to all student-athletes, whether scholarship or walk-on, in the areas of academics, eligibility, admissions, fi nancial aid, career counseling, and healthy behaviors.

Its primary, constant goal is to develop graduates from Auburn Univer-sity who have contributed in the arenas of athletic competition during their tenures of education, who are articulate, confi dent, poised, positive, cooperative, and mature decision-makers, and who are outstanding examples of Auburn University’s commitment to the development of the whole individual.

The construction of the Student Athlete Development Center was made possible by the generosity of Robert and Charlotte Lowder and from the Lowder Family Foundation.

JUDGINGWHAT THE JUDGES ARE LOOKING FOR

Varsity Equestrian tests fi ve riders from each team in one-on-one competitions. Five horses are selected for each event and fi ve riders represent their respective teams. Each team selects one of the fi ve horses in a draw before the competition. They are able to watch the horse warm up and then they receive four minutes topractice on their selected mount before competing.

Riders from opposing teams compete on the same horse. Each rider recieves a score. The competitor with the highest score recieves one point for their team. In NCAA competition, the level of diffi culty is demonstrated by the accuracy of the pattern and how the competitor uses the horse that she draw to the best of her ability.

Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences - The judges evaluate the rider’s position, consistency on course, smoothness, fl ow from jump to jump, the number of strides(steps taken by the horse) in a line and the rider’s plan to complete the course. Scoring for the event is out of 100 with 100 being a perfect score.

Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat - The riders have to perform a fl at test on their horses in a 40 x 20 meter arena. The test consists of nine movements to be judged on accuracy, smoothness and overall position of the rider. Each movement receives a score from 1-10. A tenth score judges the position and seat of the rider and thecorrectness and effectiveness of her aids. The score is out of a 100 with 100 being a perfect score.

Western Horsemanship - This event is designed to evaluate the rider’s ability to execute, a prescribed set of maneuvers with precision and smoothness while maintaining a balanced, functional and fundamentally correct body position. The ideal horsemanship pattern consists of seven to nine maneuvers and is extremely precisewith the rider and horse working in complete unison, executing each maneuver with subtle aids and cues. Exhibitors are scored for each sequence of maneuvers with a-1.5 to +1.5 score for each maneuver with a base score beginning at 70.

Western Reining - This is a class based on set patterns and precise scoring system. Within these patterns the horses and riders athletic abilities are tested in aseries of maneuvers including spins, stops, fl ying lead changes and circles with changes in size and speed. In collegiate competition, the rider must perform one of the set National Reining Horse Association (NHRA) patterns. There are a total of eight parts to a reining test with each individual maneuver judged from -1.5 to +1.5 with base score beginning at 70.

Equine Athletes Auburn Equestrian is fortunate to have talented horses donated to the program from around the coun-try. Many of Auburn’s equine athletes come to the program with extensive backgrounds showing on the NRHA, AQHA, and USEF circuits. Prior to arriving at Auburn, many have successful competitive careers including ap-pearances and wins at the NRHA Derby and Futurity, AQHA World Shows and Congress, USEF Indoors, USEF Medal Finals, Medal Maclay Finals, Junior Hunter Finals, Grand Prix appearances and even a former Olympian.

Head Coach Greg Williams has changed the face of Auburn women’s athletics and has put its equestrian team on the map. Since his return to his alma mater, Williams has continued to add wealth to this program and is building it to new heights.

Williams is in his 17th season as head coach of the Auburn equestrian team, the program’s 11th year as a varsity sport. This season marks the fi rst year that equestrian is sponsored by the Southeastern Conference, and Auburn was selected to host the innaugural SEC Championship, March 29-30, 2013.

The Paragould, Ark., native led Auburn to its fi rst overall Varsity Equestrian National Champion-ship in 2006 and to its fi rst discipline title, Hunt Seat, in 2008. He also helped the Tigers to their Southern Equestrian Championship in 2010 and recently, led his team to another overall National Championship in 2011.

Since the 1996 debut of the equestrian program, Williams has orchestrated the building of the Equine Center and helped to change the club program to Auburn’s 21st varsity sport. He is currently working on a plan for a new center for the equestrian team. The facility will include new covered arenas, stables and barns and will be a completed in a few short years.

During the 2003-04 season, Williams’ Tigers upset the competition to become the 2004 Southern Equestrian Champions, the fi rst championship in Auburn equestrian history.

That same year, Williams led the Tigers to an incredible runner-up fi nish at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships, guiding Auburn to the IHSA National Finals in both Hunt Seat and Western in the program’s inaugural 2002-03 varsity season.

In 2006, he led the Tigers to their fi rst Varsity Equestrian National Championship, the third National Championship Auburn University received in one month. He coached Whitney Kimble and Ashley Griffi th to the NRHA Collegiate Derby where they competed for an individual national title.

In 2008, Williams led the Tigers to a Hunt Seat title and a sixth place fi nish in Western at the Varsity Equestrian National Champion-ship.

The 2008-09 season saw three Auburn riders, Paige Monfore, Maggie McAlary and Anna Schierholz, selected to compete individually at the Varsity Nationals. McAlary was also named 2009 USHJA Rider of the Year, while Lyndsey Jordan won the 2009 NRHA Colle-giate Derby.

In 2009-10, Williams helped fi ve Auburn riders to individual selections at Nationals. Once again, McAlary and Schierholz represented Auburn in the Over Fences Championship. Senior Katie Breedlove closed out her career at Auburn with a bang, riding for Auburn in the Equitation on Flat Championship, and freshman Indy Roper made her Nationals debut as a horsemanship selection. Senior Lynd-sey Jordan was selected to ride in the Reining Championship, as well as representing Auburn in the 2010 NRHA Collegiate Derby.

During the 2010-11 season, Williams and his team beat Georgia for the SEC Championship and would later go on to win their sec-ond Overall National Championship, their fi rst since 2006. The Tigers took home three of four MVP awards in equitation over fences, Grace Socha, equitation on the fl at, Maggie McAlary, horsemanship and reining, Paige Monfore.

The 2011-12 season brought more success for Auburn, as Williams led the Hunt Seat and Western squads to top-fi ve fi nishes at the NCEA National Championships as the programs fi nsihed fourth and fi fth, respectively. Then-sophomore Western rider Stephanie Rucci was named Most Outstanding Player in reining, marking the second-consecutive year that an Auburn rider brought home the award.

Williams graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences in 1986. His career in the horse industry began at a young age as he showed horses, competed in rodeos and roping contests. His mother also competed and passed on her passion for horses.

Williams’ beginning years as a professional were spent in the South and the Southwest training pleasure horses as well as cutting, hal-tering and roping horses. These horses were shown at Futurities, Congress and World shows. He began his work at Auburn 17 years ago running the Horse Teaching and Researching Unit. He also continued his professional showing career during his fi rst years back.

Williams and his wife, Sandi, have two daughters, Toni (29), who was a member of the Auburn equestrian team, and Erica (23). Toni is married to Auburn native Jim Patrick.



LisaHELFERAssociate Head Coach

Lisa Helfer enters her sixth season as the Western coach for Auburn University.

In each of her fi ve seasons with the Tigers, Helfer has helped coached the Western team to winning seasons. In each of the past three seasons, Helfer has helped the team earn top-four seeds for the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships (formerly Varsity Equestrian). Helfer has also played a major role in coaching top individual selections at the championships, including former riders Julie Gibbs (2008), Paige Monfore (2009) and Lyndsey Jordan (2010). Under Helfer’s leader-ship, senior rider Indy Roper earned an individual selection in 2010.

At the 2012 championships, Stephanie Rucci took home the Most Outstanding Player award for reining, marking the second-consecutive year Auburn won the honor after Monfore took home the title in 2011.

All-American honors were awarded to the riders for the fi rst time by the NCEA in 2011, and Roper was the only rider in the country to receive fi rst-team honors in both Western horsemanship and

reining under Helfer’s direction. This past season, Helfer helped Roper to her second-consecutive reining All-American honor, as well as an honorable mention in horsemanship. She also coached Cheyenne Cracraft to an honorable mention honor in reining.

Helfer has also seen her riders compete at the NRHA Collegiate Reining Championships each year. Lyndsey Jordan comnpeted in the event from 2008-10, winning the competition in 2009. In 2011, Helfer coached both Paige Monfore and Kristin Hansen, and in 2012, Roper and Stephanie Rucci competed for Auburn in the event with Rucci fi nishing third overall.

Helfer has been working with and around horses for over 27 years. She graduated from the University of Findlay in 1998 with a B.S. in Western Equestrian Studies and a minor in Business Management and then completed her master’s degree at Auburn in 2012 in adult education and sport management.

While at Findlay, Helfer competed for the Western IHSA team as both an open horseman-ship and reining rider. After graduation she went on to train and coach both youth and amateur riders. Helfer has shown extensively in AQHA, NSBA, open and 4-H events, spe-cializing in all-around competition. She has earned year-end awards in both the Ohio and Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Associations in Showmanship, Horsemanship, and Equita-tion classes. She has also competed as an amateur and been a fi nalist at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress.

Helfer has judged both open and 4-H competitions, and she has also spent fi ve years as a reproduction specialist managing some of the top reproduction facilities in Ohio and Florida.

Before arriving at Auburn, Helfer worked at Miami University of Ohio where she was an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health and the coach of the West-ern IHSA equestrian team. During her two years as western coach she led the team to two regional championships, a zone reserve championship, a trip to the national semi-fi nals and a top-ten fi nish at the IHSA Nationals. She also coached the regional high point western rider two-consecutive years.

Away from the equestrian fi eld, Helfer has been playing competive ice hockey for the past 30 years. She has traveled throughout the USA, Canada and Finland playing on both women’s and co-ed teams.

Helfer is a native of Uniontown, Ohio, and is the daughter of Lee and Carol Helfer. She is engaged to Christopher Dorsey and the couple plans to marry in May 2013. Helfer also has two siblings and seven nieces and nephews.



JessicaBRASWELLAssistant Coach

Jessica Braswell is in her second season as an assistant coach for the Tigers for Hunt Seat.

In her fi rst season, Braswell led the hunt seat team to an 8-1-3 regular season record and a fourth-place fi nish at the NCEA National Championship. She coached her riders to two First Team All-American honors and two Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Braswell graduated from Auburn in 2009 with a double major in Agriculture, Economics and Spanish International Trade. She went on to earn an MBA from Auburn in December 2010.

While at Auburn, Braswell was a member of the Equestrian team from 2005-2009. She helped lead the team to its fi rst Overall National Championship in 2006 and a Hunt Seat National Championship in 2008. She was a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was the 2009 Auburn Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. She continued to be a part of the equestrian program during graduate school as the director of operations.

Braswell took her fi rst riding lesson at the age of four and never looked back. She started competing at the age of six.

Prior to coaching at Auburn, Braswell worked for CIGNA Health Care in Hartford, Conn. She worked in CIGNA’s Proposal Management Department as a strategist.

Braswell is a native of Richmond, Va. She is the daughter of Jamey and Amy Braswell and has one sibling, Troy.



GraceSOCHADirector of Operations

Grace Socha is in her fi rst season as a graduate student and director of operations.

A native of Glenville, N.Y., Socha spent the previous four years as a member of the Auburn equestrian team. Socha graduated from Auburn in August 2012 with a degree in health promotion and a minor in business. She is currently working toward a master’s in higher adult education in the sport management program. While a member of the equestrian team, Socha was a part of winning the 2009 and 2010 Southern Equestrian Championships, as well as the 2011 Hunt Seat and Overall National Championships. Socha was named the equitation over fences MVP at the 2011 National Championships and was an honorable mention All-American in equitation on the fl at. She was a member of the 2012 SEC Honor Roll and received four MVP awards throughout her competition years.

She was the team-voted 2011 Hunt Seat MVP and was also the winner of the 2012 Coach’s Award.

Socha is the daughter of Michael and Sara Socha and has two sisters, Lizabeth and Zoe.

THE 2012-13 AUBURN EQUESTRIAN TEAM

The 2012-13 Auburn equestrian team is looking to continue the storied success of a championship caliber program.

Auburn head coach Greg Williams returns nine seniors to his squad while welcoming 14 of the nation’s most talented freshmen to

the Plains. The eldest and youngest are joined by 10 sophomores and seven juniors to round out the roster.

The program begins the 2012-13 season coming off top-fi ve fi nishes in both Western and Hunt Seat at the 2011 NCEA

National Championships. The Hunt Seat team fi nished fourth, while Western fi nished fi fth, to cap off another successful year for the

Tigers. Junior Stephanie Rucci took home the award for Most Outstanding Player in western reining, marking the second-straight

season an Auburn rider won the award after Paige Monfore won it in 2011.

Auburn Equestrian will be competiting against the nation’s best, once again, in 2012-13, this time as an offi cial member of

the Southeastern Conference. Auburn was selected to host the inaugural SEC Equestrian Championships, March 29-30, 2013, at the

Auburn University Horse Center. The Tigers also welcome Texas A&M to the conference and look forward to a four-team conference

championship.

Jay Gogue began his tenure as Auburn University’s 18th president on July 16, 2007.

The Waycross, Ga., native is a two-time Auburn graduate in horticulture, receiving a bachelor’s degree in 1969 and a master’s in 1971. In 1973, he earned a

doctorate in horticulture from Michigan State University.Shortly after returning to his alma mater, Gogue engaged the talent and insight of the

Auburn family toward development of a dynamic and forward-looking strategic plan to guide the University for the future. Students, alums, employees, business leaders and other stakeholders contributed to a roadmap that will strengthen Auburn’s academic, research and outreach mission, improve operational effi ciency and develop human capital.

Gogue arrived at Auburn with ample experience in the top ranks of academia. He was selected president of New Mexico State University in 2000 and, in 2003, named president of the University of Houston and chancellor of the University of Houston System.

Gogue worked for the National Park Service from 1973 to 1986, rising to the position of chief administrative scientist for several regions of the U.S. Park system. He began his distinguished career in higher education administration in 1986 as associate director of the Offi ce of University Research at Clemson University, where he also served as vice presi-dent for research and vice president/vice provost for agriculture and natural resources. Utah State University selected Gogue as provost in 1995.

Gogue met his wife, Susie, in the eighth grade, and they married during their under-graduate years at Auburn. Susie also earned two Auburn degrees. They are the proud parents of three children and have two grandchildren.

He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key honor societies, Sigma Chi Fraternity, Sigma Xi scientifi c research society and the National Society of Scabbard and Blade, the honorary military society for all branches of service. Gogue previously served as an accreditation reviewer for the Pacifi c Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

Auburn Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs has a vision of leading Auburn Athletics to becoming the nation’s preeminent Athletics Department. In his tenure at the helm of the Tigers’ program, the department has pros-pered athletically, academically and fi nancially.

Under Jacobs’ leadership, Auburn Athletics has made major strides benefi tting Auburn student-athletes, coaches and fans. The department has focused on fi ve strategic goals under his leadership: Winning, graduating student-athletes, managing the department’s fi scal affairs, complying with SEC and NCAA rules and providing a positive gameday experience.

The Auburn Athletics Department has consistently ranked in the top 10 percent of the NACDA Directors Cup and has claimed 10 national championships under Jacobs, includ-ing a school-record four titles in 2005-06. In 2010, the football program claimed the BCS National Championship, its fi rst national title since 1957. The Auburn equestrian team also won its second national title in 2011. Under Jacobs’ watch, Auburn’s athletics programs have captured 22 Southeastern Conference titles.

Academically, Auburn has earned seven public recognitions by the NCAA for scoring in the 90th-100th percentile nationally in the Academic Progress Rate (APR).

Jacobs served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Tigers Unlimited prior to his appointment as Director of Athletics and has initiated several successful business ventures for the Athletics Department, including a lucrative contract with Under Armour Performance Apparel and a nine-year extension with multimedia rights holder IMG.

During Jacobs’ tenure, Auburn has also moved forward with numerous facility projects designed to benefi t Tiger athletics programs and their fans, most notably, the construction of the state-of-the-art Auburn Arena and basketball practice facility that opened for the 2010-11 season. The most recent facilities upgrade was a $16 million multipurpose 100-yard indoor practice facility.

Jacobs was named Auburn’s 14th Director of Athletics on Dec. 22, 2004, after work-ing in almost every area of the Auburn Athletics Department for the previous 20 years.

Jacobs earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in business administration from Auburn in 1985 and 1988, respectively, and was a member of the Auburn football team, earning two letters as an offensive tackle in 1982 and 1983. He is a member of the Auburn chapter of Phi Kappa Phi honorary.

He is married to the former Angie Sapp of Dublin, Ga. The couple has three daughters, Haley, Meagan and Jayne. They are also foster parents.

Throughout its 138-year history, the College of Agriculture hasbeen helping advance Alabama’s agricultural economy while improving thenutrition, health and standard of living for all citizens. Today it continuesthat long tradition of service and is expanding its programs to meet the changing needs of Alabama’s economy and citizens. As the Auburn eques-trian team is dually funded through the College of Agriculture and theAuburn Athletic Deptmartment, “a true partnership of academic excel-lence and athletic success” has been created.

The College of Agriculture offers 23 degree options in eightdepartments: Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, Agronomy andSoils, Animal Sciences, Biosystems Engineering, Entomology and Plant Pa-thology, Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures, Horticulture and Poultry Sci-ence. The College also has the third largest scholarship program, both in number of awards and monetary value, on Auburn’s campus and hasstudents from more than 70 nations.

The Department of Animal Sciences is the largest departmentin the College and supports beef, swine, dairy and equine programs. In1996, it was home to the beginnings of the AU Equestrian team, whichwas established as a club sport within the department. It became a var-sity sport in 2002, and in 2006, the department initiated an equine optionin their academic program.

By linking the academic department of animal sciences with theathletic department, Auburn has established a partnership like no other in the country. By training student-athletes in both equine sciences and athletic competition, Auburn will continue to support and strengthen Ala-bama’s already thriving equine industry.

The equine industry in Alabama and throughout the Southeastis one of the fastest growing animal industries. According to a recent survey of 879 Alabama households, 4.9 percent of those households re-ported owning or renting a horse. It is estimated that 89,000 households have equines, with a total equine population in Alabama of 186,871.

The number of horses in Alabama and the Southeast is expect-ed to continue its growth, making the development of the equine optionin the department a timely endeavor. The goal is to enable students toprovide leadership in this industry in future years.

The linkage between Auburn’s equestrian competition andequine academic programs offers yet another way for Auburn to continue its land-grant mission of providing teaching, research and outreach to the state’s citizens. AU has graduated more than 232,658 students since it began in 1856. Cur-rently, we have 210,472 living alumni around the world.

There are 98 Auburn clubs around the country whose primary goal is to raise scholarships for incoming freshmen. The Auburn Alumni Association and Auburn Club Program awarded a total of 188 scholarships for the 2011 - 2012 school year. Two clubs have endowments of more than $100,000 and the Alumni Association Endowment stands at more than $2.7 million.

The Student Alumni Association, with membership of over 3,400 students, of-fers three student scholarships for its rising senior members.

The Auburn Alumni Association has more than 46,000 members and contrib-utes more than $95,000 each year toward professorships and other faculty awards.

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

The Auburn equestrian team benefi ts from the direction of one of the

fi nest strength and conditioning staffs in the country. finest strength and conditioning staffs in the country.

The James T. Tatum, Jr, Strength and Conditioning Center stands as a

testament to Auburn’s ongoing commintment to providing state-of-the-art

training facilities for its student-athletes. The center, which opened in January

2002, emcompasses more than 14,000 square feet and is triple the size of the

previous facility.

The fi rst fl oor of the two-story center houses 24 power stations,

which contain the majority of the equipment used by student-athletes during

workouts and leads to effective and time-effi cient training. The second fl oor

contains various machines, medicine balls, aerobic equipment and an open

exercise area for additional overall sterngth and conditioning development of

Auburn’s student-athletes.

With the completion of the adjacent Indoor Practice Facility in July

2011, another 1,500 square feet were added to the weight room bringing the

size of teh facility to 15,382 square feet.

The center is named for James T. Tatum, Jr., who served 16 years as

a member of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Tatum believed strongly and devoutly

in Cliff Hare’s philosophy that “Athletics Makes Men Strong, Study Makes Men

Wise and Character Makes Men Great.” His support of Auburn’s teams and

programs throughout the years strongly illustrated that fact.

The center was dedicated in his memory on April 6, 2002.

Designed by The Butner and Associates Architectural Group, the

facility was built by Bailey Harris Construction Corporation at a cost of $2.7

million.

TRAINING ROOM

Auburn’s Athletic Training Room provides

expert health care for student-athletes. Auburn

student-athletes have access to the latest in sports

medicine and rehabilitation equipment.

In June of 2008, Auburn completed a $1.7

million project for the football facilities in the Au-

burn Athletics Complex that included renovation of

the Auburn Athletic Training Room. The hydro-ther-

apy area, an aquatic therapy system for rehabilitation

and training of injuries, was improved to include a

HydroWorx 600 Series therapy pool, a PolarPlunge

pool and two ThermalPlunge pools. The water in the

tanks can be maintained at any temperature.

Auburn Sports Medicine has a staff of 20

certifi ed athletic trainers, six of which work directly

with football daily. Their experience and expertise

contribute to keeping the Tigers healthy and pro-

tected during and after their seasons.



Auburn had 16 of 21 pro-grams compete in postseason action during the 2011-12 season.

The soccer team made history by winning the SEC Tournament for the first time in school history. The Tigers also became the first team from the SEC West to win the league’s title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Since the 2004-05 aca-demic year, Auburn has won 12 national championships (Men’s Swimming & Diving [5], Women’s Swimming & Diving [3], Equestrian[2], Football, and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field) and 20 SEC Champion-ships (Football [2], Women’s Basketball, Women’s Golf [5], Soccer, Men’s Swimming & Diving [8], Women’s Swimming & Diving [3]) and six divisional titles (Baseball, Football [3] and Soccer [2]).

For the second year in its two-year history, Auburn Arena hosted a NCAA post-season event, serving as a host site for a NCAA Gymnastics Regional. Auburn also hosted the nation’s fi nest swimmers and divers in the NCAA Women’s National Championships in March.

The men’s swimming and diving team won its 16th consecutive SEC title. The Tigers have won 18 SEC swimming and diving championships, all coming in the last 19 years.

A total of 39 Auburn student-athletes earned 80 All-America honors during the 2011-12 season. There were also 46 Tigers named All-SEC, three SEC Coaches of the Year and three SEC Scholar-Athletes of the year, along with a school-record 249 Academic Top Tigers.

For more than 100 years, eagles have been associated with Auburn Univer-sity’s football program. From a static presence on the sidelines to rousing fl ights over the fi eld, WAR EAGLE has become an Auburn icon.

The role of Auburn University’s eagles is to promote wildlife conserva-tion as a part of the education initiatives of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Southeastern Raptor Center. The USF&WS permits the Raptor Center to house eagles and use them on hundreds of educational presentations each year – including Auburn’s home football games. Currently, three fl ighted eagles and numerous other non-releasable raptors are used for these educational programs. Eagles stir emotions in many people as they have come to symbolize strength, power and courage as well as other important values such as freedom, American heritage and the preservation of our environment. Golden Eagles Tiger (War Eagle VI), Nova (War Eagle VII) and Spirit (a Bald Eagle) are the eagles who have inspired football fans with their graceful fl ights over Jordan-Hare Stadium.
