Live at Pompeii
Gran Tour was not only Goethe and (very) old
chaps. Gran Tour has been also in more recent
times.
If Pink Floyd made their GT stop in Pompeii, wecould pass by as well

Catania
Parasite 2.0
In Catania they have a beheaded king. To be
precise the mindless gent is Fedinand II of the Two
Sicilies.
We know that Giuseppe Garibaldi's soldiers wherethe ones to cut his head. Since then, here and
then, creative Catanese people add the missing
parts.
Here above a work by Parasite 2.0, fellowtravelers in the GT. For the time being we add
their special light system, more once we will be
there all together.

Reggio di Calabria
When Lebbeus Woods Came
to Italy
Lebbeus Woods (one of the best GT ever) went
there. And he took some images and wrote downhis thoughts:
On the coasts circumventing the Mediterranean, a
type of construction has proliferated in the last
thirty years or so that is usually referred to as

wild building. What is wild about it is not the
buildings designs, which are utterly conventional,
but rather their lack of legal status in the towns
and cities to which they are loosely attached.
Usually built in unplanned, shapeless clusters, they
are like squatter communities in the same sense
as slums anywhere, except they are not like
typical slums. The first big and most noticeable
difference is the materiality of the buildings; they
are constructed of reinforced concrete, with clay
tile infillvery durable and permanent. The
second difference is that the people who build and
inhabit these structures are not poor, but rich
enough to commission such sturdy construction. In
fact, they are most often from rural areas, where
as farmers they earned quite well, often
benefiting from government subsidies as well as
the profitability of their crops and livestock.

Trapani
Delicious!
Another stop from the GT atlas.
Francesco Adamo was one of the most important
Italian "caramellai" (candy-maker). He had his
little kiosk in Trapani, where he worked for morethan fifty years.
Unfortunately, he died few months ago.
: (
But then, some young people took his place.
Hence, a visit there could be very interesting
Here a video where you can see him at work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qQq2ODV...

Maggiolina
A Nice Typology
Another nice stop for the GT
Milan Italy: When Italian architect Mario Cavalle
says his business is mushrooming, he speaks the
literal truth. He built these mushroom house atthe cost of $3,000 in the suburbs of Milan.
It has four rooms, kitchen and bath, plus polka
dots. Unorthodox in style, it remains the closest
thing to an answer for people who can afford topay only for rent or food, but not both, at present
prices. This model isn't edible, but Signor Cavalle
may have more ideas.

Centuripe
Flying Over Sicily
Some days ago I flew from Catania to Milano.
When I looked at the landscape below I suddenly
saw a familiar image: the Centuripe's man!
Centuripe (Latin: Centuripae; Sicilian: Centorbi) is
a town and comune in the province of Enna (Sicily,
southern Italy). The city is located 61 km from
Enna, in the hill country between the Rivers
Dittano and Salso.

Maurizio Cilli's Collection
I know Maurizio, since some 20 years or probably
more.
To get to meet him again in the GT game was
quite fantastic.

Very nice!

Wood Furniture
"...I designed a bed which was a closed platform of
one by twelves with a central, free-standing wall,
also of one by twelves. The bed was designed so
that the lumber yard could cut the few different
lengths to size and I could nail them together inplace. I liked the bed a great deal, in fact the
whole house, for which I made other furniture.
Later, in a large place in town, I designed desks
and chairs for the children using the same method
of construction. More furniture developed fromthis beginning."
