Larry Bock, who has accrued more victories than any other volleyball coach in NCAA history, enters his second sea-son as the head coach of the Mids in the fall of 2012.

Bock arrived at Navy having com-piled an overall record of 1,358-306-4 (81.5%) in 41 seasons as a collegiate volleyball head coach. That tally includes a mark of 1,252-192 (86.7%) in

34 seasons as the head coach of the women’s program at Juniata and a mark of 100-91-4 (52.3%) in six years as the head coach of the Juniata men’s team.

Bock has won 119 more matches than the coach with the next highest tally of victories, and has recorded nearly 119 more wins than the second-place coach on the women’s side of the sport. Additionally, the winning percentage for his women’s teams ranks fifth among all NCAA coaches who have at least 10 seasons of experience.

Juniata’s women’s teams won at least 30 matches in each of the last 31 seasons and surpassed 40 victories on 10 different occasions during this span. The Eagles compiled a staggering 358-14 record (96.2%) against conference foes, and last dropped a match against a conference opponent in 1983. And while Juniata com-petes on the NCAA’s Division III level, Bock’s teams posted a 67-23 record against NCAA Division I programs during his tenure at the school.

Bock guided the Eagles to each of the 30 NCAA D-III Tournaments that have been contested. Juniata won NCAA titles in 2004 and 2006, appeared in a total of eight national championship matches and advanced to the semifinal match of the national tournament in 14 of his last 15 seasons and 25 times in all. Juniata posted a 94-36 record in the NCAA Tournament under Bock.

Individually, Bock’s players garnered 65 All-America certificates, four American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player-of-the-Year awards and one National Rookie-of-the-Year laurel. Additionally, five Juniata players received College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America accolades, two were selected as the organization’s Academic All-American of the Year and two received an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship.

On the men’s side, Juniata won a trio of Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association divisional titles under Bock, who himself was tabbed as the EIVA D-III Coach of the Year in both 1993 and ‘94.

Bock has received nearly every possible coaching award available over the course of his career He has been tabbed as the AVCA (D-III) National Coach of the Year five times and as the organization’s region coach of the year on nine occa-sions. Bock also was a member of the AVCA’s inaugural Hall of Fame Class (2003), was elected as one of the two NCAA Silver Anniversary (D-III) Team Head Coaches (2006), received the AVCA Founders Award for service to the sport (2000), garnered the USA Volleyball Trailblazer Award (2006) and was selected as the 2009 recipient of the All-Time Great Coaches Award by USA Volleyball. What Others Are Saying About Larry Bock“Navy has scored a remarkable coup. Larry is without a doubt one of the most successful and talented coaches I know. His players rave about the experience they had playing for him. He is the complete package as a coach; he can recruit, train a team and can relate well with the players. He is excep-tional during matches and is passionate about the sport. I am a big fan and admirer.”–– Doug Beal, head coach of the 1984 and 2008 U.S. Olympic Men’s Volleyball Team; Current CEO of USA Volleyball

“Larry’s record speaks for itself. With all the great coaches in our profession, the fact that he has accumulated more victories than anyone speaks volumes of his coaching abilities.”–– Mary Wise, head coach, Florida women’s volleyball

“His 34 years of experience, over 1,300 career wins and two NCAA titles speak for themselves. Larry Bock has a gift for motivating and empower-ing his athletes. As a player, I wanted to work hard for him because of the example he set. He consistently creates challenging and rewarding environ-ments for his players to develop as athletes and people. Navy is privileged to work with Larry, a coach with a great combination of intellect, integrity, and professionalism.”–– Melissa Myers, head coach, Illinois State; former Juniata player

“Larry Bock is one of the nation’s finest people and one of nation’s elite coaches. This move will enhance everything the Navy volleyball program is about and gives Coach Bock another avenue to share his gifts with these volleyball athletes and the entire Navy Athletic Department. I wish all the successes that the Navy volleyball program can achieve with Coach Bock guiding these women.”–– Don Flora, head coach, Texas Tech women’s volleyball

“Larry’s record speaks for itself. He is recognized as one of the all-time great coaches in all NCAA divisions. It is amazing the level of success his Juniata teams have always had under him. But what stands out most for myself with Larry is the class and graciousness he has about himself. He sets the per-fect example and his players follow that. He is the same person with oppos-ing coaches after wins as he is after losses. Larry has many great years of coaching at an elite level left in him and the success he had at Juniata will follow him to Navy.”–– Julie Jenkins, head coach, Trinity University women’s volleyball

“The U.S. Naval Academy women’s volleyball program has one of the best-kept secrets of volleyball in their midst. Larry Bock has the volleyball coach-ing experience and background most programs only hope they can attract. His ability to get the most out of his student-athletes will find certain footing in their collegiate careers and beyond. Volleyball with Larry is a journey for team excellence and as the years pass those who take that journey also find the blueprints for individual excellence as well.” –– Mark Pavlik, head coach, Penn State men’s volleyball

The 2012 season will be Kait Kozak’s second as a member of the Navy coaching staff.

Kozak served as the head coach at Western New England College for two seasons prior to arriving at Navy in the spring of 2011. She guided the NCAA Division III program located in Springfield, Mass., to a 37-30 record in her two years with the team. Kozak led

the Golden Bears to a 27-10 record during her initial 2009 season, a tally that set the school record for the most wins posted in one season. Originally tabbed to place sixth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference at the start of the season, the Golden Bears won the regular season title with a 9-1 record before placing second in the conference tournament. Kozak herself was selected as the conference coach of the year that season.

A native of Huntingdon, Pa., Kozak is a 2006 graduate of Miami (Fla.). The defensive specialist lettered in each of her four years at the school and served as the co-captain of the Hurricanes during her senior season. Kozak also garnered multiple academic all-conference laurels and received an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship as a member of the team.

After graduating from Miami with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in sport admin-istration, she served as an assistant coach at Springfield College for two seasons while attaining her Master’s of Education Degree in counseling psychology (athletic counseling concentration). After leaving Springfield she spent one year as a student-athlete development intern at Oregon before accepting her most recent position at Western New England College.

The Navy volleyball team will practice and play the majority of its matches this season in the Wesley A. Brown Field House.

Named after the late Lt. Cmdr. Wesley A. Brown, USN (ret.), the first African American midshipman to graduate from the USNA (in 1949), the 140,000 square foot facility that cost $52 miliion to build includes three regulation sized basketball courts, a 200-meter indoor track with banked curves and a retractable synthetic surface that allows field teams to practice indoors.

Additionally, the facility that opened in the spring of 2008 boasts a state-of the art video board that spans nearly 16x21 feet.

The volleyball team will also call Amuni Hall its home during a few matches during the 2012 season.
