PRESENTATION

The 2013 FIM Trial World Championship is starting a new season. This time the opening round will be at the traditional venue of Motegi, in Japan, within the

premises. The FIM Trial is currently undergoing a crucial period, not only because of the economic situation but also and essentially because the Trial Sport at high level has found itself in a peculiar situation, in which decisions must be taken to ensure its survival. The FIM has been working together with the Trial stakeholders on the future of the Trial sport. In order to maintain the high level of the sport and prepare young riders to reach the World Cham-pionship in the coming seasons, there is a strong need for changes in the rules, some of which have been difficult to enforce as points of view may diverge between the main actors of this sport. I would say that 2013 will probably be a turning point.

Trial sport continues to attract many spectators. We are working on expanding the television coverage so that this competition reach a big global audience across five continents, giving a great platform to all the people in-volved: FIM, organisers, sponsors, manufacturers, teams and riders for the promotion of this sport.

Born as “observed Trials” more than a century ago, Trial has been the subject of particular attention from the FIM which created the FIM Junior Trial World Cup, the

FIM 125cc Trial Cup, the FIM Trial Open International Cup and, obviously, the FIM Women’s Trial World Champion-ship which was the first female Series at world level in the motorcycling sport.

The FIM Trial des Nations – for men and women – is also a successful competition, with an increasing number of participants every year. This means the sport is a good attraction for riders, teams, the industry and the public.

My sincere greetings go to all the people involved in Trial sport: riders, teams, manufacturers, sponsors, organ-isers, volunteers, officials, etc. for all the work they have carried out. All together we will put our forces to push this sport ahead!

Let me also congratulate the spectators who, like we do, admire the extraordinary performance of Trial riders which makes this sport so spectacular.

TRIAL AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Trial has been one of the pioneering disciplines in motorcycling sport when it comes to incorporat-ing environmental rules into the workbooks. As

a result, we have seen events with very comprehensive environment management plans, but more important than any plan is the attitude of both the organisers and the leaders of the FIM Trial Commission in supporting the development of sustainable motorcycling.

It is my pleasure to address you and to encourage you to continue to show willingness to preserve our natural re-sources. By practising Trial on a sustainable basis, you will ensure that new generations can also have the privilege of enjoying this beautiful discipline in the future.

One of the main results of the FIM’s strategic plan has been the recognition that sustainability is one of the main pillars that support our sport as a whole. In this spirit, I in-vite and urge you to read, implement and be guided by our Environmental Code. It will certainly inspire you and give you valuable ideas on how to preserve our resources and make your events more environmentally friendly.

I would also like to remind you to share with us your best practices which will be published in our worldwide Newsletter. And don’t forget to think about taking part in our Environmental Award!

Dans le monde du sport motocycliste, le Trial fait partie des disciplines qui ont fait oeuvre de pionnières lorsqu’il s’agissait d’intégrer les règles environnementales dans leurs livres de tra-vail. Cette initiative a permis l’organisation de manifestations avec des plans de gestion environnementale très complets. Mais plus important encore, je me félicite de l’attitude des or-ganisateurs et des responsables de la Commission Trial FIM et du soutien qu’ils apportent au développement d’un motocy-clisme durable.

C’est avec plaisir que je m’adresse à vous et que je vous encourage à continuer à aller de l’avant avec cette volonté de préserver nos ressources naturelles. Par une pratique durable du Trial, vous assurerez à nos nouvelles générations le privilège et le plaisir de pouvoir pratiquer et suivre cette discipline mag-nifique à l’avenir.

Parmi les résultats importants du plan stratégique de la FIM, on peut saluer la reconnaissance du développement du-rable comme l’un des principaux piliers qui soutiennent no-tre sport, toutes disciplines confondues. Dans cet esprit, je vous invite à lire, à appliquer et à être guidés par notre Code de l’Environnement, qui vous inspirera et vous donnera des idées intéressantes pour préserver nos ressources et organ-iser des manifestations encore plus responsables vis-à-vis de l’environnement.

Je souhaite également vous rappeler de partager avec nous vos bonnes pratiques qui seront par ailleurs publiées dans notre Newsletter distribuée de par le monde. Et n’oubliez pas de ré-fléchir à une participation à notre Prix Environnement!
