Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)
The European Commission has launched a new setof regulations under Solvency II for Insurancecompanies which will have a significant impact onhow Insurance and Reinsurance firms alignthemselves. In the USA the National Association ofInsurance Commissioners (NAIC) is the bodydisseminating the ORSA requirements for US insurersand reinsurers similar to that within the EU.
This new initiatives will closely examine the wayinsurers are required to address internal governance, risk and capital management processes. Solvency IIwill establish a uniform and consistent framework for
Insurance firms in Europe –creating greater transparencyand a level playing field – andtransforming the way insurersconduct operations.
Preparing for Solvency II MeansGaining a Competitive Advantage
The proposed date for implementation of Solvency IIis 2015 and experience with other changes of thismagnitude indicates that the lead times can besignificant. The UK regulator is keen to ensure thatinsurance companies or insurance units within banksare preparing for capital adequacy now, even though
the new rules are still in theconsultation phase. This newmandate will dramatically changehow firms allocate, calculate and manage capital, bysetting minimum requirements at group andcompany level. This new holistic regulatoryframework utilises a risk-based approach toestablish capital and liquidity requirements.
Risk Reward’s InterdisciplinaryApproach
As an award- winning risk management consultancyand training firm, Risk Reward is uniquely positionedto support the technical requirements of Solvency IIimplementation and compliance for insurancecompanies and especially those in emerging marketswhere the insurance sector is new and/or growingrapidly. Some of the problems with Solvency IIimplementation and compliance have been due tothe over-reliance on actuarial models and/or systems.
