requirementsofapreviousdegree,youmusttakeanapprovedcourse.ContactStudentProgramServicesforinformationonyourspecificprogram.
Educationelectivesincludeallundergraduatecourseswiththesubjectprefix‘EDUC.’
• ElectivesmayincludeEducationFoundationcourses,IndependentStudiesorAppliedStudies.Studentswithadeclaredminormusttaketherelatedmethodscourse(typicallyfromtheEducation3700:AppliedPrinciplesofCurriculumandInstructionforNon-Majorsseries).ThiscoursewillcountasoneofthefourrequiredEducationelectives.(seeSectionD:MinorsinEducationinthisHandbook)

E.SpecializationsinEducation Moststudentscanelecttocompleteaspecializationinadditiontoamajororminor.AspecializationincludesfourspecifiedcoursesandcompletionofProfessionalSemesterIIIintheareaofthespecialization.
• SpecializationsinSpecial/InclusiveEducationandTechnologyinEducationarecurrentlyoffered.• Uponcompletionofaspecialization,anendorsementwillbeenteredontheofficialtranscript.• SpecificcoursesrequiredforthespecializationmustbecompletedpriortoProfessionalSemesterIII.
Anyofthecoursesthatareincludedintheminimumrequirementsforastudent’smajororminorcannotbeusedaspartoftherequirementsforthespecialization.F.ChangingtheMajor
StudentsareadmittedtotheFacultyofEducationbyaschoolsubjectmajor.StudentscompletingaCombinedDegreesprogrammayelecttochangemajorsinthefirstdegreeprovidingtheresultdoesnotchangetheEducationmajor.
• Forexample,B.Sc.(Math)maychangetoaB.Sc.(GeneralSciencewithMathasthefirstdisciplinarystream),asbothoftheseprogramsmeettherequirementsfortheMathEducationmajor.
• Exception:studentsareadmittedtoScienceEducationinoneoffourScienceschoolsubjectareasandmustconsultwithStudentProgramServicesbeforeanychangestotheArtsandScience/Sciencemajorareapproved.
Inexceptionalcases,studentsmaybeeligibletochangetheirEducationmajorifitcanbedemonstratedthattheywouldhavebeenacceptedforadmissioninthedesiredmajoratthetimeofadmissiontotheFacultyofEducation.Tochangetheirmajor,studentsmustsubmitawrittenrequesttoStudentProgramServices.TheUndergraduateStudentProgramCommitteewillmakethefinaldecision.
G.LeaveofAbsence AstudentwhoseprogramisinterruptedmustsatisfytheprogramrequirementsoftheUniversityofLethbridgeCalendarineffectatthetimeofreadmission.ThestudentshouldprovidealettertoStudentProgramServicesdescribingthereasonforleavingandaproposedreturndate.
H.CancellationofCourses Tocancelcourseregistration(dropcourses)beforeincurringawithdrawalgrade(W)ontranscriptsorincurringtuition,compulsory,andprogram-relatedfees,studentsmustcanceltheirregistrationbytheExtendedDropdeadlineforthetermorsessionthroughtheBridge(seeUniversityCalendarPart3:Cancellations,Refunds,andWithdrawal
I.GradingSystem
ThegradingsystemfortheFacultyofEducationconformstothedesignationsasoutlinedintheCalendar(seeUniversityCalendarPart4:AcademicRegulations,PoliciesandProgramRequirements).Certaincourses,includingallpracticumcourses,aregradedonaPass/FailbasisandarespecifiedassuchintheCourseCataloguesectionoftheCalendar.

RepeatedCoursesAttheUniversityofLethbridge,astudentmayrepeatacoursepreviouslytaken.Agrademaybeimprovedbycompletingeitherthecourseoritsequivalent.StudentswhohaverepeatedacoursemustsubmitaRepeatedCourseform(availableattheRegistrar’sOffice).
• StudentswantingtoimprovetheirgradeinaSeriesorTopicscoursemustrepeatthesectionwiththeidenticaltitle.
• Coursesthatareequivalentaredenotedwithan‘Equivalent’courseelementinthecoursedescriptionandincludecoursesthathavebeenrenamedorrenumbered,andTopicsorSeriescoursesthathavebeenregularized.
• Ifastudentrepeatsacourse,thegradeforeachattemptisrecordedonthetranscript.• StudentsmaynothavegradesandcredithoursformorethanoneattemptcalculatedintheGPA.• Afteracourseisrepeated,thegradeandcredithoursoftheattemptwiththehighestgradewillbe
usedtocalculatetheGPA.FailingGradeAfailinggradeinanymodule,courseorpracticumwithinaProfessionalSemesterwillresultinthestudent’swithdrawalfromtheFacultyofEducation(seeUniversityCalendarPart8:RequiredWithdrawal).IfastudentfailstocomplywiththeStandardsofProfessionalConductorNon-AcademicEvaluationCriteria,thestudentmaybeassignedafailinggradeinthecomponentwherethecriteriawerenotmet.Ifa‘F’gradeisassigned,thestudentwillbewithdrawnfromtheFaculty.AppealofGradesGradeappealsdealwithclaimsthatastudent’scoursegradehasbeenimproperlydetermined(seeUniversityCalendarPart4–AcademicRegulations,PoliciesandProgramRequirements).AdditionalGradingOptions
• Incomplete‘I’• Withdrawal‘W’• WithdrawalwithCause‘WC’
Incomplete‘I’Note:Normally,theIncompletedesignationisnotusedinpracticumcourses.The‘I’designationisgivenonlyincaseofillnessorotherextenuatingcircumstancesbeyondthecontrolofthestudent,whichmakeitimpossibletocompletetherequiredworkbytheendoftheterm(seeUniversityCalendarPart4–AcademicRegulations,PoliciesandProgramRequirements).Toobtainan‘I’:
• The‘I’designationisawardedonlyonapplicationtoandapprovalofboththeinstructor andtheDeanofEducation.(seeStudentProgramServicesforadditionalinformationandtheappropriateforms.)
• Requestsarenotentertaineduntilthelasttwoweeksofclasses• Whenthe‘I’isapproved,anappropriatedeadlineisdeterminedforthecompletionofoutstanding
work.Astudentwhodoesnotcompleteoutstandingworkbytheassigneddeadlinewillreceivean‘F’inthecourse.

• The‘I’designationmaybeconvertedtoalettergradebytheinstructorwithinamaximumofoneyear;ifnotsoconverted,itwillbecomea‘F’,exceptwherecircumstancescontinuetopreventthecompletionofthecourse,inwhichcasethe‘I’designationremainsonthetranscript.
Withdrawal‘W’Whenastudentchoosestowithdrawfromacourseorpracticum,thefirststepistocontactStudentProgramServices.Adesignationof‘W’willbeawardedif:(seeUniversityCalendarPart4–AcademicRegulations,PoliciesandProgramRequirements).
• AformalwrittenapplicationforaWithdrawaliscompletedbythestudentorhis/heragentandsubmittedtotheRegistrar.(SeeStudentProgramServicesforadditionalinformationandtheappropriateforms.)
• StudentsareresponsibleforensuringthattheRegistrar’sOfficereceivestherequestforwithdrawalbytherelevantdeadline.
• The‘W’designationdoesnotaffectthecalculationofastudent’stermorcumulativeGPA.
WithdrawalfromanEducationcourse(notpartofaProfessionalSemester):• WithdrawingfromacourseoutsideofaProfessionalSemesterdoesnotresultinthestudent’s
withdrawalfromtheFaculty.• AwithdrawalcanbecompletedanytimeaftertheExtendedDropdeadlineuptoand includingthe
lastdayofclasses.(RefertotheAcademicScheduleforthelastdaytowithdraw.)o Norefundsoftuition,compulsory,andprogram-relatedfeeswillbeprovided(seeUniversity
CalendarPart3–Cancellations,Withdrawals,andRefunds).
WithdrawalwithinaProfessionalSemester:• WithdrawingfromanycomponentofaProfessionalSemesterwillresultinthestudent’swithdrawal
fromtheFacultyofEducation(seeUniversityCalendarPart8–RequiredWithdrawal)• IfthestudentisenrolledinaCombinedDegreesprogram,thestudent’sprogramrevertsbacktothe
otherFaculty.• AstudentwhohaswithdrawnfromaProfessionalSemestermustsuccessfullyapplyforreadmission
beforeresumingstudiestowardtheBachelorofEducation.
WithdrawalfromacourseormoduleinaProfessionalSemester• AstudentmaywithdrawfromcourseormoduleofaProfessionalSemesteranytimeafterthe

• StudentTeachersareexpectedtoassisttheTeacherAssociateindailyroutinessuchasmarking,supervision,andlocatingandorganizingresources.
