A Note From Our Director.....Dear Oregon Park District Residents,

The upcoming Spring and Summer season brings great anticipation for warmer temperatures, spring flowers, and outdoor activities. The Oregon Park District is ready to help you and your family enjoy all that the sea-son has to offer both indoors and out.

As the weather improves get outside and enjoy any one of our eleven parks. We welcome you to take the time to enjoy a leisurely walk along the park paths, soak in the laughter at one of our seven playgrounds, or simply enjoy the sights and sounds of the changing seasons.

I have no doubt our dedicated staff has scheduled programs and events for the coming months that are sure to intrigue participants of all ages. Be sure to join us for the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Concerts in the Park, Slam-n-Jam, and the Sprint Triathlon. Don’t forget to register early to reserve a spot in your favorite spring and summer programs.

The Nash Recreation Center parking lot will soon be under construc-tion. We apologize in advance for the mess, but are confident you will appreciate the end result. Improvements will include resurfacing the ex-isting lower lot, expansion of the upper lot to include 25 parking spaces, additional handicap parking, a new digital message center, and signifi-cant lighting improvements. Continuing with our intent to incorporate green infrastructure, 42 of the parking spaces will be constructed of per-meable pavers. This will result in the ability to control storm water at the source, reduce runoff and improve water quality by filtering pollutants. Improving the infrastructure of our existing facilities is a high priority for the District and patrons can expect to see further improvements over the next few years.

I encourage you to welcome the District’s newest employee, Kaitlyn Kielsmeier. Kaitlyn was recently hired to serve as Health and Wellness Coordinator. Kaitlyn was raised in Oregon and chose to return to our community following completion of her Masters Degree in Kinesiology. Kaitlyn is a certified personal trainer and looks forward to meeting the health and wellness needs of our community. I encourage you to stop in and schedule a wellness assessment, free for annual members, with Kaitlyn today. Stay tuned for increased health and wellness opportuni-ties.

We take pride in putting you at the center of all we do. In 2016 we will continue to reach out to determine future Oregon Park District priorities as part of community wide surveys. As always, we look forward to hear-ing your thoughts and ideas as we plan for the future.

PickleballPickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun. It was designed to be easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty five or somewhere in between. Pickleball is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special pickleball paddles, made of wood or high-tech materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their skill.
