At YMCA Day Camps, kids play outdoors! “Spending time outdoors is essential to every child’s development, health, and well-being. It builds a connection to our rich natural and cultural heritage. Kids connected to nature grow up caring for the Earth and helping to conserve biodiversity.” - Ontario Children’s Outdoor Charter, 2014.

Healthy Kids DayPre-Camp Family Event Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 12–3pm YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a FREE community event offered at the Westwood Family YMCA. Your family is invited to join us to participate in Healthy Kids Day activities! Come out and meet members of our camp staff team and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon participating in camp-oriented activities.

YMCA Summer Day CampsYMCA Day Camps offer children and youth the opportunity to participate in fun and engaging activities. Camps are designed to spark imagination and build confidence, independence, and communication skills. All participants will have the opportunity to create positive peer and adult friendships.

In accordance with YMCA Healthy Child Development principles, participants will learn physical literacy skills and complete daily physical activity requirements. Camps will offer international activities, games, hands-on learning, skills-development, craft activities, swimming, and more.

We will motivate our campers to practice the YMCA core values of Friendship, Caring, Honesty, Diversity, Social Inclusion, Responsibility, Respect, Leadership, and Excellence through our Value Bead program. Campers will have the ability to earn Value Beads each day throughout their week in camp.

It’s All About the Value BeadsAt YMCA Day Camps, Value Beads play an important role as a sign of character and personal achievement. As a form of recognition, Value Beads promote positive behaviour and are worn as a constant reminder of what we value as a camp community. Throughout the week, Value Beads are awarded to individuals for demonstrating the YMCA core values of Friendship, Caring, Honesty, Diversity, Social Inclusion, Responsibility, Respect, Leadership, and Excellence.

When children acquire and practice fundamental movement and sport skills at a young age they are more likely to stay active and maintain healthy habits in adulthood. YMCA Staff that lead these programs are trained in National Coaching Certification Program Fundamental Movement Skills (NCCP FMS). Aligned with the Canadian Sport for Life’s Long-Term Athlete Development Framework (CS4L LTAD), all YMCA programs provide children and youth the opportunity to practice and improve their physical literacy skills and develop movement confidence in support of becoming “Active for Life.”

PHYSICAL LITERACY AND YMCA PROGRAMSWe’re giving kids the skills they need to be Active for Life.
