Things You Need To Know

• You must register for any and all courses, lectures and/or Book Clubs that you want to attend.

• We encourage you to register for ADJLC offerings online at: www.adjlc.org

• If you wish to pay by credit card, you MUST register online.

• Courses given by Clergy of Collaboration Synagogues (listed on page two) are FREE for members of Collab-oration synagogues. However, you must still register for these classes to assure that you receive cancellation and other notices.

• If you are not a member of one of the collaboration synagogues and are only attending Clergy courses, you must pay the Non-Member course fee of $75.

• The ADJLC in determination with the Instructor reserves the right to cancel a courses or lecture if there is insufficient enrollment.

These pieces are in the Sephardic liturgy, in traditional Ashkenazi liturgy and also in Conservative and Reform liturgy, (a surprising amount in the earliest Reform prayer books). Jan. 15 - The Lions’ Den: Zionism and the Left from Hannah Arendt to Noam Chomsky, by Susie Linfield, Yale University Press, 2019. Facilitator: Rabbi Alan Cohen. A history that explores how prominent intellectuals approached Zionism, Israel, and its conflicts with the Arab world.

Feb. 19 - We Were The Future: A Memoir of the Kibbutz by Yael Neeman, translated by Sondra Silverston. The Overlook Press, N.Y. 2016. Facilitator: Rabbi William Marder An overview of the life style of the Kibbutzim of the early 20th century, specifically of Israelis born into the Hashomer Hatzair movement.

OUR TEACHING CLERGY

Rabbi David BarnettRabbi David Barnett, Temple Torat Emet, received his rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Semi-nary in 1986. He had the distinction of serving as Assistant Rabbi at Har Zion Temple in Penn Valley, PA, and subsequently served in various congregational Rabbinic and Cantorial positions in Southern California for over two decades. Since 2011, Rabbi Barnett has been sharing his talents and expertise with congregations on the East Coast while successfully serving in multiple interim rabbinic positions.

Rabbi Anthony FratelloRabbi Anthony Fratello, Temple Shaarei Shalom, graduated from Pomona College in 1994 with a BA in Histo-ry, and then began his studies toward the Rabbinate at the Jerusalem Campus of the Hebrew Union College. He continued his studies at the Cincinnati campus of HUC-TIR in 1995. Rabbi Fratello earned his MAin Hebrew Letters from the Hebrew Union College in 1998, and was ordained as a Rabbi in June 1999. Rabbi Fratello has served as a member of the Board of the Mandel Jewish Community Center of the Palm Beaches and the Friedman Commission for Jewish Education.

Cantor Irving GrossmanCantor Irving Grossman, Temple Beth Tikvah, is a graduate of the Cantors Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City, where he earned the degree of Hazzan. He has studied extensively with the world famous Cantor David Kusevitsky. He is working with congregants to develop a junior choir as well as an adult choir to enhance the beauty & solemnity of our religious services. As an active member of the Cantor’sAssembly, Cantor Grossman frequently participates in Cantorial concerts.

Cantor Judith OvadiaCantor Judith Ovadia, Temple Shaarei Shalom, hails from Lower Merion, PA, just outside Philadelphia. She began singing and playing guitar at the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (now URJ) Camp Harlam. Cantor Ovadia earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York, where she was a soloist with the college chorus, under the direction of Harold Aks. She attended the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion School of Sacred Music, where she received her Master of Sacred Musicdegree.

Rabbi Howard ShubRabbi Shub, Temple Beth Tikvah, was born in Toronto, Canada. He earned his BA in Jewish History at Yeshiva University, NY, earned his MA in Contemporary Jewry at Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel, and was or-dained at the Jewish Theological Seminary, NY, where he also earned an MA in Jewish Education. He is cur-rently working on his PhD in Jewish History and Jewish Literature at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

Rabbi Michael SimonRabbi Simon, Temple Beth Kodesh, is a graduate of the Yeshivah of Flatbush and obtained rabbinic ordina-tion from the Mesifta Adas Wolkowisk. He received a BA in Political Science from Pace University, a JD from Fordham University, and an MA in Jewish Studies from.Gratz College. Rabbi Simon practiced law for 20 years before becoming the Rabbi at Temple Beth Kodesh. Rabbi Simon also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Rab-binics at Gratz College, an Adjunct Instructor of Jewish History at FAU, and has previously served as a faculty member of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.
