  • NEW LITURGICAL YEAR - Today we will begin the new Liturgical Year, Year A with the First Sunday of Advent. Advent means coming. The season of Advent begins with a call to perseverance and vigilance as we prepare to celebrate not just the historical event of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, but our central belief that Christ will come again in glory to judge all humanity. SUNDAY OFFERTORY ENVELOPES YEAR 2020 will be ready on Thursday, December 19 in the Aikins Street foyer either during our Penitential Service; Saturday evening; Sunday following the Masses or our parish office during the week. These

will only be mailed out in special cases as the cost to mail these boxed sets is very costly. We ask to please not use these until the new year. The first envelope in the set is the “Initial Offering” which is to help cover the expense for printing these envelopes. We ask to please use this envelope to help defray this cost for us. Those who do not have envelopes and would like a set are asked to contact our parish office. We ask to check the name and address to ensure you are picking up the right set.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS - we are asking all parishioners who have moved in the last year to please call our parish office with your change of address if you have not yet done so. We will soon be mailing out the Christmas correspondence and need to update our parish records to prevent mail being returned to us. Changes may also be placed in the collection basket.

    FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

    Sunday, December 1, 2019 Year A

Advent calls us to prepare for the two comings of Christ: at the Incarnation and at the end of time. We are to be ready to greet the Son of Man. As we celebrate the Eucharist, may we come with hearts ready to encounter Christ in the Word, in the people among us and in the breaking of the bread so that, nourished, we may be sent, ready to greet Christ in our midst.

Advent Wreath - Set on the branches of the wreath are four candles: three purple and one pink representing the coming of the light of Christ into the world. On the 1st Sunday of Advent, the 1st purple candle is lit—the “Prophecy Candle” in remembrance of the prophets, primarily Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. On the 2nd Sunday of Advent, the 2nd purple candle is lit representing love. On the 3rd Sunday of Advent, also known as Gaudete Sunday, meaning “to rejoice”, the pink candle is lit representing joy. On the 4th Sunday of Advent, the 4th candle is lit, often called the “Angels Candle” representing peace.

    SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

    Sunday, December 8, 2019 Year A

God is calling out to us—through his prophets and Apostles, through his holy Word, through his Son whom he sent to dwell among us—that he has come to save us. His kingdom is one of justice and peace. Will we listen to these holy voices crying out to us in the desert of worldly divisions and distractions?

SHARING GOD’S GIFTS APPEAL 2019: Goal for Year 2019: $ 39,900.00 Parish Assessment for Year 2019: $ 64,460.00 Total owing for Year 2019: $103,460.00 To date we have collected: $ 29,051.05 We are appealing for your support for this Archdiocesan Appeal. We are appealing to all those who have not as yet donated towards this cause to please help in our appeal. The entire amount we are obligated to pay each year greatly affects our budget as we do not collect enough funds through the Appeal collection to meet our goal. Each year, we must pay the balance owing for this Appeal from our Regular Sunday Collections preventing our parish to undertake important projects or to carry out the necessary repairs needed in the parish. If each family could contribute $10 monthly for this Appeal, we would be able to meet our goal. We ask for your understanding and assistance for this cause.

PARISH COLLECTIONS: God bless all for your offerings! November 17 - Regular Sunday Collection: $6,572.25 November 17 - Sharing God’s Gifts: $2,785.00 November 24 - Regular Sunday Collection: $6,717.00 December 1 - Maintenance Fund Collection. Sincere thank you for every gesture of kindness!!
