REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration fees include: Instruction, lunch and break refreshments. Codes and other reference books are NOT provided and are the responsibility of the student. Presentation material may be downloaded from the AZBO website after payment for classes has been received. For your convenience, codebooks and other reference material may be purchased from the International Code Council (ICC) on-site bookstore during the conference. Please review the session descriptions for required reference material.

2019 Spring Education Institute Information CONFIRMATION If paying online, your receipt from Authorize.net will be your confirmation. If paying by check, you will still need to register online and use the pay later option. Paper registrations will not be accepted. A confirmation will be sent within 5 days of processing your registration. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY CONFIRMATION PAPERWORK PROVIDED. You will not be considered registered until payment is received.

CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations must be received by the Registrar seven (7) days prior to the scheduled course date in order to receive a full refund. SUBSTITUTIONS Whenever a registrant is unable to attend a paid course, a request in writing for a substitution must be made by contacting the Registrar at [email protected] prior to the event. If a substitute registrant makes this request on-site and without prior approval, an additional fee of $50 will be applied.

MONDAY, APRIL 22, 2019 Session 101 2018 IBC Advanced Means of Egress CEU'S - 0.7

An advanced look at the means of egress requirements included in Chapter 10 of the International Building Code. The presentation will include detailed discussions on the design and review of the means of egress in unusual occupancies. Subjects included in the class are malls, assembly occupancies, special egress components, smoke proof enclosures, horizontal exits and exit passageways. Practical examples will be used to illustrate code requirements. This class is designed for those students that have a basic understanding of how the means of egress is designed and reviewed.

Session 105 Pitfalls & Oversights of Designing Commercial Fire Protection

Systems CEU'S - 0.7

This one day course will focus on code provisions and national standards of fire protection designs for fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps, smoke control systems and public safety communication systems. It will also cover the practical uses of these features including design flaws. Comprehensive discussion of the major compartmentalization concepts of the IBC, focusing on those requirements that deal with building size, sprinkler options and mixed-use buildings. Fire resistance rated construction is also addressed. TUESDAY, APRIL 23, 2019 cont… Session 205 Plan Review of Residential Fire Sprinklers CEU'S - 0.7

This is a residential fire sprinkler plan review class based on the 2013 Edition of NFPA 13D. Changes to the 2016 Edition will be noted when appropriate as well as amendments located in the International Fire & Residential Codes, 2018 Edition. Participants will also jointly review a sprinkler plan set for installation compliance.

Session 206 Dirt to Doorknobs – The IRC From Plan Submittal to

Certificate of Occupancy CEU'S - 0.7

This seminar will incorporate provisions of the 2015 International Residential Code. Attendees will track several building projects from planning to completion with an emphasis on detailed planning and successful code-compliant results. This interactive seminar includes numerous photographs of actual site conditions to generate discussions regarding minimum code requirements and approval of alternate materials and methods of construction.

Session 207 How Building Science & the IECC Make Buildings More

Efficient & Comfortable CEU'S - 0.7

While the Energy Conservation Code is not a state code, it has been widely adopted by most of the municipalities in the metropolitan areas of Arizona to provide minimum requirements for the energy efficiency of new buildings. This presentation will review “what’s in the residential code”, the several different pathways that builders can comply with the code, and a more in-depth building science review of how homes are built to maximize energy efficiency, comfort, and durability.

Session 303 Firestopping Plan Review & Inspections CEU'S - 0.7

Firestopping has become a hot topic because of the new ICC Firestop Inspector Certification and the Firestop Inspector requirements of the 2018 IBC. This training is designed for Plans Examiners, Fire and Building Inspectors. Contractors, Architects and Engineers. We will review the requirements of sections 714 and 715 of the IBC for joint systems, perimeter containment, through and membrane-penetrations and discuss the new ASTM firestop inspection standards. Students will receive an overview of residential requirements of fire blocking. This program will also provide code compliant solutions along with helpful hints for plans examiners and inspectors.

Session 304 Fuel Gas Provisions for Residential Structures CEU'S - 0.7

This class is an overview of the Fuel Gas provisions within the 2018 IRC Chapter 24. Also covered will be IRC Appendix “A” for gas pipe sizing criteria and commentary, including working through a pipe size example. Topics will touch on Chapter 61 of the 2018 IFC for locating propane tanks, and the differences between propane and natural gas installations. Significant defined terms will be reviewed, along with discussing safety precautions for appliances, and installation of piping inside and outside buildings.

Session 305 Inspection of Residential Fire Sprinklers CEU'S - 0.7

This class will cover obstruction rules, minimum installation requirements and the tricks of the trades during inspections of residential fire sprinkler systems. Compliance will be based on the 2013 Edition of NFPA 13D. However, changes to the 2016 Edition will be noted when appropriate as well as amendments found in the International Fire & Residential Codes, 2015 Edition. The purpose of this class will be to focus on some of the big ticket items during inspections and the importance of performing rough-in inspections. This class would benefit building and fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, contractors, and the construction industry.

IECC 2018 Foundational Science addresses issues related to envelope components including heat transfer, insulation and solar heat gain coefficients. Energy and water conservation methods related to building systems including mechanical systems, lighting systems and plumbing systems are reviewed in relation to the IECC. The benefits of alternate paths of compliance including simulated performance and energy rating indexes will be demonstrated IECC 2012, 2015 and 2018 Workshop provides plan review and design experience with residential projects. Working in teams the students will review multiple sets of plans chosen to illuminate different compliance paths and challenges.

Session 402 Front Counter Plan Review for Permit Techs CEU'S - 0.7

This class is designed to provide basic plan review experience for the permit tech to perform reviews at the counter. Topics of discussion will include: basic blueprint reading, scales, construction and inspection terminology. Hands on reviews will include gas pipe sizing, pools and spas, decks and patios, carport, and accessory buildings with a basic understanding of electrical, mechanical and plumbing code requirements for these types of projects.

Session 403 Inspection Skills/Legal Aspects/Conflict Resolution CEU'S - 0.7

This class is designed to prepare students who are entering the inspection field with some useful tools to establish credibility and consistency while building effective relationships. This course also examines the legal aspects of inspection as it relates to property owners, occupants, contractors and construction professionals. Course topics include: Introduction to the legal aspects of code administration; offer useful tools to support effective communication; recognize the importance of consistency in decision making; Introduction into property rights and laws; understanding the Inspectors role; and developing credibility.

Session 404 2018 IBC/09 ANSI Accessible Means of Egress CEU'S - 0.7

Since the inclusion of accessible route requirements into our building codes, more people with disabilities are able to enter and use buildings. Our codes also require accessible egress features in buildings for those same people so they can reach safety during an emergency. This class will focus on the various components of accessible means of egress, along with how to find the code requirements that apply when reviewing plans and inspecting buildings for egress. The class will start with the basics of accessible code compliance, allowing everyone to participate and ask questions.

Session 405 The Backside of the Building Code – Chapter 12 and

Beyond CEU'S - 0.7

This class is intended to focus on nonstructural topics that are not typically covered in detail during code training. The class will address little-emphasized areas of the code that have resulted in tragic fire consequences, such as MCM’s regulated in Chapter 14 and foam plastics in Chapter 23. The class will also cover interior environment, roofing, glass, special construction, and emerging issues in safeguards during construction. Finally, the typically glossed-over requirements for interior finishes will be considered in detail.

Session 406/306 2018 IRC & IECC Plan Review Workshop CEU'S - 0.7

IECC 2018 Foundational Science addresses issues related to envelope components including heat transfer, insulation and solar heat gain coefficients. Energy and water conservation methods related to building systems including mechanical systems, lighting systems and plumbing systems are reviewed in relation to the IECC. The benefits of alternate paths of compliance including simulated performance and energy rating indexes will be demonstrated IECC 2012, 2015 and 2018 Workshop provides plan review and design experience with residential projects. Working in teams the students will review multiple sets of plans chosen to illuminate different compliance paths and challenges.

This class is a unique perspective on photovoltaic (PV) installations. You will be presented with a basic overview of PV systems, from manufacturing of photocells and how PV systems work, design, installation considerations and field inspections. This review will cover NEC article 690 and 705 calculations and installation requirements, IBC structural considerations, and IFC installation requirements for a code compliant installation.

Identify International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and IBC provisions applicable to the design and construction of tenant improvements in existing buildings. The discussion focuses on the three most common types of uses: business, mercantile and assembly. It emphasizes how the IEBC may be used for tenant improvements, including when to use the IEBC, when to use the IBC and how these codes interrelate. The class includes the instances in which existing or historic buildings qualify for exceptions from IBC requirements and real world examples of tenant improvements that became much more complicated as their plan reviews progressed.

Session 505 Assessment of Existing Buildings for Life Safety Professionals
