In today's Gospel, we hear Jesus declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The immanent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within themselves, the inner harmonious relationship between Father, Son, and Spirit. We see this in the Gospels when Jesus speaks of his Father and promises to send the Holy Spirit. The term "economic" has its roots in the Greek word oikonomia, roughly meaning "household management." The economic Trinity is our three-Personed God's relationship with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing relationship with us. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to imitate God's immanence by giving and receiving love with one another in community. However, this is not limited only to those close to us, though that's where love often starts. We also imitate the economy of God when we go out, when we extend our love and care in a life-giving way. "Go therefore ?" Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is invited to follow Jesus and the Apostles "to the nations," to the margins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This could be a distant relative, the residents of your local homeless shelter or even the forgotten neighbor next door! When we love well, we create something beautiful - a relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of heaven. This Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the relationships in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you? How well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you creating something beautiful? © Liturgical Publications Inc SAINT ROSE MISSION STATEMENT Through the love and grace of Jesus Christ, we, the people of Saint Rose Parish, are to encourage participation in the celebration of our Catholic Faith, to nurture and teach ourselves, and our children, to proclaim the Gospel values of Christ and His Church, and to open our hearts and respond to the needs of those in and beyond our parish community through worship and service. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity, our one God in three persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In what seems to be a coincidence, this is

also a three day weekend. On Monday we celebrate Memorial Day, the unofficial beginning of summer. (I’m sure the kids have already figured out that the number of school days left is in the single digits!) Last week’s celebration of Pentecost was focused on the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and this weekend the hand of the Holy Spirit continues to be at work. In mapping out the schedule with Father Jim last December, it just so happened that this week would be his turn for the Monday morning Mass at Corpus Christi. Because it is Memorial Day, as part of that Mass he will read off the list of names from both Saint Rose and Corpus Christi who have gone home to heaven since last Memorial Day. So please join Father Jim for the 8am Mass on Monday to remember all who have died. Now here’s how the Holy Spirit has been at work. Father Jim being on the schedule for Memorial Day is more than “it just so happens…” Each week we receive an email from the Archdiocese listing days and times that parishes need priest help. Mostly it is for weekend help, often to cover a planned future retreat, pilgrimage, or vacation. Sometimes it is a desperate need for the weekend at hand because the planned priest is sick or otherwise suddenly unavailable. Occasionally it is for a weekday Mass that simply cannot be replaced by a Communion Service. Two weeks ago the list came out and it included the Memorial Day Mass in the Cemetery at Saint John’s in Little Canada. I was intrigued by the thought because I celebrated that Mass as pastor of Saint John’s for twenty one years, usually with about 300 people present with their lawn chairs, and we were only rained into the church once. Even so, I didn’t jump at it and call to volunteer. A new list came out one week ago and the cemetery Mass was still on the list of needs. At that point I suspected that the Holy Spirit was nudging me since the Spirit had put Father Jim on the schedule last December for the Mass here in Roseville. I called Father Tom at Saint John’s and he was happy that I offered to take the Mass and relieved that this important

annual event would go on as usual. So if you have friends or relatives at Saint John’s Cemetery, or just want to attend a Memorial Day Mass in a cemetery, bring a lawn chair and join me Monday at 9am in Little Canada. There’s always donuts and coffee after Mass. And, thank the Holy Spirit for the opportunity. A week ago, on Monday, May 14, Amy and I and Sue Heather had the privilege of visiting a long time parishioner who had just turned 100 years young. Katherine “Kay” Larson still keeps in touch with her old neighbors, and even more recent neighbors at Rose Pointe, even though she now lives and is active in the community at the new Saint Therese in Woodbury. We had the joy of bringing her a dozen roses from Saint Rose to honor her 100th birthday. “Ad Multos Annos!” Two final things. First, there is an insert in today’s bulletin about the combined Parish Council meeting this past week to determine the new Mass Schedule starting July 7-8. Council members will be around this weekend for your comments. Second, the Annual Grand Raffle is Sunday, June 17, after the 10am Mass. Be sure to get your tickets in by then.

God Love You! Fr Fitz

You could spend your entire life searching for the perfect one and it would not be a wasted life.

The quote above is my favorite line from one of my favorite movies, The Last Samurai. They are the words of Katsumoto, the leader of the Samurai. He is referring to the Japanese Cherry Blossoms. I think of his words every year when the trees blossom and give off their sweet perfume. I try not to take the blossoms for granted because they don’t last very long. Their beauty is a call to stop and be in the moment, searching for the perfect one. The truth is [spoiler alert], they are all perfect. Katsumoto realizes this with his final breath. Can you believe that this is how God loves us? God looks on us the way Katsumoto looks at those blossoms - as captivating, beautiful, and perfect. God spends our entire lives looking on us with love and great hope, that when we breathe our last breath, we might say, “It was all worth it.” I hope that we can say that, at the end of a life full of struggles, “It was all worth it.” I don’t know about you, but I’m going to spend some time this weekend gazing at cherry blossoms.

God bless you, -Amy

God of Love, We are so grateful to count this parish family among our many blessings. Guide us throughout our time of transition. When we are scared, embolden us. When we are complacent, arouse us. When we falter, help us find truth. When we are frantic, show us your peace. When we are tempted to walk away, remind us of what draws us together. Guided by your Holy Spirit, we will be united in love and joyfully accomplish our mission, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
