Certification is not about taking a test! (well, it is, partly)

It’s a complete approach to professionalization of data

management.

WHAT ISN’T A PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLINE?

It is not:

A collection of people doing the same job (more or less)

People who have the same degree or education

People with the same “job title”

http://libertystreeteconomics.newyorkfed.org/2013/05/do-big-cities-help-college-graduates-find-better-jobs.html

Most people work in an area different from

their degree.

In a 2013 study,

just over 62% of people with a degree

have a job that requires a degree and

only 27.3% of people actually have a job

related to their college major!

• Undergo specialized professional development (training)

• Have a knowledge network (publications, conferences, workshops, luncheons)

• Use a standard method for knowledge banking (Body of Knowledge)

• Have access to standardized, core skills, knowledge (Certification)
