REACHING IN, REACHING OUT, REACHING GOD

Fr. Jim’s Jottings Next weekend is the feast of St Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan/Capuchin Order. It is an opportunity to celebrate one of the most popular saints in the church today. St Francis was born in 1182 and lived only 44 years in Assisi, Italy. The response to his life is remarkable. In his day there were thousands who wanted to imitate his life. He founded the Franciscan Order which is the largest congregation in the world today.

His spirituality is reflected in a hymn we are all familiar with.

Prayer of St Francis Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord And where there’s doubt, true faith in you. O Master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled, as to console To be understood as to understand To be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Overflow Seating in Great Hall As the attendance at our weekend Masses increases, we will continue to practice “social distancing” as best we can. To make sure no one is sitting too close to anyone, we have overflow seating

in our Great Hall. We can participate in our Mass because of the large TV screen and sound system. A Minister of Eucharist will bring Holy Communion into the Great Hall or you can come into the Church to receive our Lord.

Holy Hour this Friday (October 2) We have not had our monthly Holy Hour since Covid-19 broke out in mid-March. We will resume this Eucharistic practice on the first Friday of the month. It will begin after our 12:05 Mass and end at 1:00 pm. We are carefully wearing facemasks and keeping proper distancing. There is plenty of available room at our Friday Mass. We are hoping there will be an appropriate number of people coming for this devotion. If there is not a reasonable attendance, we may no longer offer this service.

Mission Appeal…Fr Jude Thank you to everyone who has read Fr Jude’s appeal for financial help for his Diocese in Nigeria. Last week’s bulletin had an insert of his appeal along with an envelope for whatever financial donation you could make. If you weren’t here last weekend, there are copies of that insert on the radiators in back of Church. God bless your generosity.

Defending Life, Family, and Faith in the Elections Come and join in an evening in preparation for our elections. It is on September 30 at 6:30 pm; Grand Meridian Hall; 2621 N. Oneida St., Appleton featuring: Dan Miller, Director of Pro-Life Wisconsin and Julaine Appling, CEO of Wisconsin Family Action.

Dan Miller and Julaine Appling are strong fighters for life, family and our country’s Judeo-Christian values. Both have fought successfully for defunding Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin. Dan has logged more than 5,000 hours of sidewalk counseling at abortion facilities, and has personally witnessed more than 600 babies saved. He is a fourth-degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Julaine has been (for 20 years) at the forefront of the battles to protect and promote marriage and family, human life and religious freedom in our state. She can be found in the halls of the state capitol, in churches and in events across the state standing up for and speaking for the values that make Wisconsin great.

Church Chuckle The Pastor came to visit the other day. He said that at my advanced age I should be thinking of the hereafter.

I told him, “Oh, I do it all the time”.

“No matter where I am - in the living room, upstairs, in the kitchen, or down the basement, I am always asking myself: ‘Now, what am I here after?’”
