PROJECT SUMMARY

Phased reconstruction of eastbound and westbound Benning Road NE from 14th

and H Street to OklahomaAvenue, including portions of Maryland Avenue and Bladensburg Road. Work encompasses:

Repaving road surface and building new brick gutters and granite curbs,

Sidewalk restoration with pedestrian-friendly exposed aggregate surface treatment,

Safety improvements crosswalks, wheelchair ramps, and driveway entrances

New streetlights, upgraded traffic signals and timing

Upgraded water mains, storm drains, inlet basins, and sewer lines,

Landscaping upgrades, including construction of the Starburst Plaza with a historical mural andneighborhood attractions,

Streetcar tracks installed on eastbound and westbound lanes of Benning Road from OklahomaAvenue to 14

thand H Streets, and in the separate H Street Construction Project, along H Street from

14th

Street to 3rd

Street.

Original contract value -- $35,448,123.90. Prime contractor: Capitol Paving of DC, Inc. (CPDC)Notice to Proceed Date: December 12, 2007

COMMUNITY RESPECT & OUTREACH

During this reporting period, MACTEC provided notices to the community by e-mail and door-to-door distribution announcing the lifting of the restrictions on northbound 15th Street at BenningRoad, effective Saturday, March 20.

DAY-TO-DAY WORK PERFORMED[The Benning Road component extends from 16

thStreet to Oklahoma Avenue. The Starburst

Intersection component encompasses portions of H Street, Morse Street, Maryland Avenue, 15th

Street, and Bladensburg Road at their juncture.]

Thursday 3/11/10

Benning Road: Between 15th

and 16th

Streets, the graded aggregate base was placed in the intersection

of the 15

th

Street median work. The exposed aggregate sidewalk and block pavers were placed at 16

th

Street. Topsoil was placed in the planter box in the median of the 1500 block. Line striping was carriedout on Benning Road from 14

thStreet to 16

thStreet.

Bladensburg Road: Between Morse Street and Neal Street, the graded aggregate base was compactedand preparations were made for density testing. Flippo crew worked on the adjustment of severalmanhole tops in the median of Bladensburg Road.

Starburst Plaza: On the east side, workers excavated and installed the catch basin, and connectingpipes from MH17B(S) to DI-8, MH17B(S) to DI-6 and stub to DI-7.

Electrical Work: At Benning and Oklahoma Ave, traffic signal controller cabinet TC-8 was furnished andinstalled.

Project-wide: Contractor performed general site cleaning and MOT maintenance.

Friday 3/12/10

Project-wide: Work cancelled due to weather conditions. Contractor performed general site cleaning andMOT maintenance.

Saturday 3/13/10 No work scheduled.

Monday 3/15/10 Major work activities cancelled due to weather conditions. Flippo crew worked on theadjustment of several manhole tops in the median of Bladensburg Road.

Tuesday 3/16/10

Starburst Intersection & Bladensburg Road: Continuation of the reset of manhole to grade at the

Starburst Intersection in at Bladensburg and Benning Road and at 16th

Street. Preparation for theinstallation of the sidewalk on the mall ramp and Maryland Ave. Flippo crew worked on the adjustment ofseveral manhole tops in the median of Bladensburg Road.

Electrical Work: On the northeast corner of Benning Road and Bladensburg Road, the pedestrian countdownwas damaged in an accident and was repaired.

Project-wide: Contractor performed general site cleaning and MOT maintenance, general road surfacecondition maintenance, and pothole repair.

Wednesday 3/17/10

Starburst Intersection & Bladensburg Road: Placement of the concrete for the exposed aggregatesidewalk at the Starburst Plaza walkway ramp from 45+18 to 42+46. Contractor began the excavationand placement of the aggregate base and site preparation for the placement of the exposed aggregatesidewalk on Maryland Ave on the east side. Continuation of the reset of manhole to grade atBladensburg and Benning Road and at 16

thStreet. Flippo crew worked on the adjustment of several

manhole tops in the median of Bladensburg Road.

Electrical Work: At Benning Road and Bladensburg Road, the temporary portable concrete base for the 20steel traffic signal pole mounted on a transformer base was furnished and installed.

Project-wide: Contractor performed general road surface condition maintenance, pothole repair, generalsite cleaning and MOT maintenance.

UTILITIES RECONSTRUCTION

PEPCO Benning Road Distribution Line Duct Bank Construction & Feeder Line Replacementcompleted February 11, 2009. Starburst Distribution Line Duct Bank Construction completed Aug 14,2009.

WASHINGTON GAS -- Completed gas main upgrades and connections on January 14, 2009,except for the 1400 block of H Street where the work was completed in early January 2010.

CLEAR CHANNEL -- Will relocate Starburst Plaza bus shelters after completion of other Starburstvicinity work.

measurements at the Starburst Plaza fountain wall in preparation for installing

Mr. Weitzmans terrazzo Cornerstones of History mural. Commissioned by

the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities, the mural portrays the African-

American heroes Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and

Rosa Parks.
