NOTES: ✓ AWN invites those with a February birthdays to bring a door prize.
We will begin with an ice-breaker to get to know one another. For this activity, we need those who will attend to send Sissy Campbell, VP for Programs, a short email at [email protected] with a characteristic of what makes them unique, either in their work environment or in their personal lives. Example: Sissy feels she is unique because she’s the only one in the area who is fluent in the Greek language. It doesn’t matter that nobody in this area has a need for that skill! It only matters that she feels that this is unique about her in Amarillo. Come on, everyone has an individual characteristic that makes that person unique. Please share it with the network. We will also have a fun activity to help us build our AWN success team. Come join the fun!
SPOTLIGHT ON BUSINESS
Every noon meeting you will have an opportunity to have 5 minutes to
share about your business and ask for referrals. Just put your business
card in the basket at the guest relations when you get your name tag and
at the end of each meeting a card will drawn to present at next meeting.

Career Achievement Awardees
Dr. Dana West Captain Elizabeth Brown
Dr. Dana West – The majority of public school teachers are women, but few ever achieve the rank of superintendent for a large school district. Dr. West has a 25-year history as an educator. She began her career as a teacher and moved up the ranks to principal, cluster director, and now the first female superintendent for the largest school district in the Panhandle. Dr. West supervises dozens of campuses and thousands of employees, but her true joy comes from visiting campuses and building relationships. She cares deeply for all the children entrusted in her care and works to make a positive impact in their lives.
Captain Brown started her career with the Amarillo Police Department (APD) as a civilian dispatcher in 2000 and became an officer in 2002. She served in the Uniform Division working her way up to Sergeant and then supervisor of the Service Division (dispatch and records) in 2009. She was the 3
rd female to make the rank of
Lieutenant and in 2015 she became the first female shift commander. She was promoted to Captain in January 2016 becoming the first female police officer to be promoted to this rank and is currently one of four Captains in leadership roles at APD.

The March luncheon every year is dedicated to the Students and Mentors of the Amarillo Women’s Network-Rotary Clubs’ Mentoring program. High school students who participate in this program, along with their school counselors and mentors are invited to join the AWN members for lunch a special program. This year the program will focus on helping these students develop skills and behaviors that will lead them to successful college and workplace outcomes. There will be four presenters: Denese Skinner, Senior Director of the Career Center at West Texas A& M
University (WTAMU) who will speak on “Cool Majors. Hot Jobs”; Brandy Carr, Interim Director of WTAMU’s Student Advising Center, who will
speak on the college admission process and beyond; Melodie Graves, Senior Advising Associate at Amarillo College and previous
participant in AWN’s Mentoring program, who will present realistic strategies to develop for success in college; and
Rene Butcher, Human Resource Manager at Zinnia Employment Services, who will help students understand the process of seeking employment. There will be a short Q&A session following all presentations.
This program will not only help our local mentees gain valuable information but also develop their own network of knowledgeable people in the college and business environments.

Mass E—mail From AWN Website It is AWN’s policy that the organization will not send mass e-mail to the membership for anything other than
AWN events or notices. This policy is in place for two purposes: (1) to keep down the amount of e-mail that
is sent to the membership from AWN; (2) to keep down the amount of work it takes to do an e-mail to all
members. If we were to do a mass e-mailing for one event, we would be obligated to do this for every
member and for every event.

A RESERVATION MADE IS A RESERVATION PAID—NOON MEETINGS REMINDER
Our policy is that we require all reservations made for AWN noon meetings be paid regardless of
whether or not you attend. This is because AWN must also pay the number of meals reserved
with Abuelo’s, even if that number is more than the actual attendance.
While a reservation is not required to attend a meeting, we encourage and need our members to
reserve for meetings so that we can obtain a close estimate of the number of people that will be
attending in order to notify Abuelo’s how many tables to set up. Reservations also allow us to
give our speakers an idea of how many handouts and materials might be required for a meeting.
We ask that you keep this policy in mind when you make reservations. Thank you for your
consideration.
