The Council Meetings will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Office. We encourage all leaders and members (14 years and older) to take an active part in the decision-making process as you are voting members. All clubs should be represented. Contact the Cooperative Extension Office with the names of your representatives that plan to attend so they can be

emailed a copy of the agenda. Notify the office if you have any items you would like included on an agenda by the first of the month.

Tehema, Glenn, Butte and Colusa Counties!

Sutter-Yuba Counties will be hosting Regional Presentation Day this year. It will be held at Wheatland Union High School, 1010 Wheatland Rd., Wheatland, CA 95692 on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

LIVESTOCK CHALLENGE PLANNING MEETING

There will be a Livestock Challenge Planning Meeting on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the UCCE Office. The event will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Location will be announced soon! This county event will be chaired by Plaza and the All Star & B.L.A.S.T. Team, and all livestock members, leaders, and Key Leaders are encouraged to attend this meeting.

We are eager to work with the Tractor Supply Company in the 4-H Paper Clover Fundraiser that will be held on October 4-15, 2017. Tractor Supply Stores that have 4-H club participation raise on average 40% more. Funds earned help purchase county awards and help fund county events. The manager of the Willows Tractor Supply Store has offered for 4-H to fundraise at the store any time. If your club or project plans to fundraise, complete the fundraiser form and submit it to the UCCE Office for approval at least 14 days prior to the event.

“Rock your 4-H Swag!”

The Bowl-A-Thon will be hosted by Glenn County 4-H and chaired by the Capay 4-H Club this year and will take place in December! Start forming your teams (4-5 to a team). The date is Sunday, December 3, 2017. There will be two sessions, 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Each team member is encouraged to get $50 in pledges or $250 per

team. There will be a top money earned prize, best team name contest, 4-H swag drawing and lots of prizes awarded. There will be an early bird registration if you sign up online by Monday, November 6, 2017 and be entered in a special raffle. Deadline to submit online registration is Monday, November 27, 2017.

It’s a-”maze”-ing at the corn maze The 4-H clubs of Glenn County need your support as they hold their annual Corn Maze fundraiser. The maze will be held every weekend in October, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. See the schedule for club host dates and come out to enjoy the fall days and support your local club. In addition, Country Pumpkins has thousands of pumpkins to choose from, miniature to huge. Also available will be decorative gourds and specialty pumpkins. The 4-H Council and B.L.A.S.T. Team ask that you wear the bracelets during Red Ribbon Week and promote a “Drug Free” community. Please wear the red wristbands that are distributed at your October club meeting. We would like to thank Glenn County Farm Bureau for the donation of the wristbands. This year’s theme is “Your Future is Key, so be Drug Free.”

ADOPT-A-FAMILY COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY Glenn County 4-H will again be participating in the Adopt-A-Family program in early December. Be on the lookout for more specific information as the holiday season approaches, so your club can be prepared to make someone’s holiday shine a little brighter.

Each club is asked to bring one dozen cookies/cupcakes to the event on Sunday, December 3, 2017!

New Herpetology Project: The study of reptiles and amphibians. Come and join this Fall project (September - December) and learn about these two groups of animals. The Junior Leader and I will present information on reptiles and amphibians, we will attend a show, and pick an animal to create an educational display board on. This completed project can be used for Presentation Day and entered into the fair as an educational display board. There are six slots left. Call Patricia Sims at 865-3288 to reserve your place. Meetings start Tuesday, September 19, at 5:30pm at the 4-H Office. You DO NOT need to own a reptile or amphibian to join this project, you can just come an learn about them.

PLAZA 4-H CLUB

The Plaza 4-H meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday ,September 13, 2017. Thea Baldridge, our secretary, read the minutes from the last meeting in May. Our key leaders, Ryan Edson and Leila Titus, introduced themselves to the club. Some announcements were made. Changes in the record books and fair requirements were established. Tickets for the drive through carnitas dinner, which is being held October 5th, were given out. As well as record books from the 2016-2017 program year. Awards were given out for those who did not attend the Star Awards Dinner. We were given out a sign up sheets for the window display, corn maze clean up, and the Tractor Supply bake sale committees. Our Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m. and our next meeting will be on October 11th. Respectfully submitted by Ciara Fleming, Plaza 4-H Reporter.

Thank you to all the Junior/Teen Leaders, Club Officers, All Star/B.L.A.S.T. Team, Project Leaders, Key Leaders, and Event Chair, Amy Freitas. Without all

your hard work, the 4-H Round-Up Event would not have been such the huge success that it was! This event truly shows what 4-H is about and all the fun projects involved! Your time was well spent as we signed up many new 4-H members that day! Way to go!

The Star Awards and Leaders’ Appreciation Dinner was held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Memorial Hall in Orland. Over 400 awards were given and 4-H members and leaders were recognized for their achievements from the past year. We would like to thank all the members, parents, and leaders that attended this event. We would also like to thank all the 4-H Clubs that helped with the event and Orland FFA for cooking the delicious hamburgers.

PRIMARY MEMBERS

1. Complete a minimum of six (6) hours of 4-H instruction in project area. 2. You must be enrolled in 4-H by the last Monday in September for returning members and the second Monday in October for new members. 3. Follow Glenn County Fair requirements and rules.

ANYTHING BUT ANIMALS/STILL EXHIBIT MEMBERS

1. Attend 70% of your community club’s monthly meetings prior to the fair entry form deadline. 2. If you are a returning member, you must have turned in a Record Book or the minimum required (see Project Completion Requirements and

Steps to Success in 4-H ) at the end of the previous year (June 30th) with all required signatures. 4. Complete a minimum of 6 hours of 4-H instruction in project area. 5. Participate in a countywide 4-H event: Anything But Animals Judging Day, Fashion Revue or Food Fiesta, Creative Arts and Skills Day, or

approved make-up event. 6. Give a presentation at a Club meeting, Project meeting, Council meeting, County level event, or County Presentation Day. OR be an

evaluator or be a Room Coordinator at County/Sectional Presentation Day. To qualify as an evaluator, member must have given one gold presentation in the past and must be a Senior Member. To be a room coordinator, member must have given one gold presentation in the past and must be 13 years or older as of December 31, 2017.

7. You must complete your Glenn County Fair entry per Glenn County Fair rules by the entry form deadline. You must turn in this Fair Participation Report to the UCCE Office by Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

Participation Report to the UCCE Office by Tuesday, April 17, 2018. 10. Follow requirements and restrictions for Livestock by the Glenn County Fair including but not limited to: official identification, ownership

restrictions and weight requirements. 11. You must have your picture taken with your animal for your buyer prior to the sale at a designated time and place.

Enforcement of policies – A. Leaders are not to sign Fair Participation Reports of members who do not meet the requirements. B. Exceptions to any of the above rules can only be made by the joint approval of the Member’s Leader(s), Key Leader and 4-H Youth Program Representative.

How to Participate:

Form a team of five members. Adults and Youth welcome! You do not have to be a member of 4-H.

Select a bowling session time.

Have each individual bowler complete an individual bowler’s pledge sheet raising a minimum of $50.00 or at least $250.00 per team.

Bring complete pledge forms with money to your session the day of the event in your best 4-H Swag!

Awards given for:

Wear your 4-H “SWAG” and be entered into a special drawing

Top individual who raised the most money/per session

Top Score for each team

Best Team Name

All proceeds will help fund the Glenn County 4-H program. Your donation is helping support Star Awards Dinner, State

Leadership Conference, Livestock and ABA Field Day, Livestock Challenge, County Presentation Day, Fashion

Revue, Fair clean up, awards and Camp.
