INTRODUCTIONWelcome to Warhammer World Events. Thank you fortaking the plunge and getting involved with the

Warhammer 40,000 Battlefields event 2009. As you willsee further in the pack, this event is completely unique toWarhammer World, and as such deserves someexplanation. But before we get to that, there are someimportant things to make you aware of.First and foremost, the Referees are always right. Theyhave been empowered by the Event Manager to makeclear and unambiguous decisions when it comes to anyissue that requires your co-operation. Even if theirdecision is in direct contravention of the rules, everyoneat the event is obliged to accept their rulings.

Secondly, we insist on the highest standards of behaviourfrom everyone attending the event. This applies in yourdealings with the event staff, with each other and towards

the general public. Your games will be taking place in apublic venue and we ask that you are mindful of this atall times.

Thirdly, entry into the Warhammer 40,000 BattlefieldsEvent requires that you have an army, which has allmodels in the army fully painted and based in anappropriate manner. If you have any doubts about whatthis means, then we urge you seek further advice.

Warhammer 40,000 Battlefields events are a chance forplayers to show off their hobby skills. Were not lookingfor Golden Demon standard from everyone, but we dorequire that the army is painted and based in anappropriate manner.

If you arent prepared to accept and abide by theseprinciples, then perhaps this event is not for you.If you are prepared to follow these principles, thengood luck and read on!

BATTLEFIELDS GAMINGWarhammer 40,000 Battlefields is as much a socialexperience as it is a hobby event, and is set up toencourage player interaction. Match ups will bedetermined by us at registration to ensure that whereverpossible you will face suitable races to the one that you

brought. We will publish these match ups after the firstgame, doing our best to ensure that you do not play thesame person twice.

As this is a much more informal event we are not tooworried about who you play against. If you find you havebeen matched against a friend or fellow club member, then you are welcome to ask other players if theyd liketo swap places. Anyone that cannot find their opponentshould come to the stage and talk to a Referee, who willattempt to help find an opponent for them. If theycannot find an opponent for you, you will be assigned aspare player to play against.

    HOW WARHAMMER 40,000

BATTLEFIELDS WORKSAn important aim of the Warhammer 40,000 Battlefieldsformat is to encourage you to explore the full extent ofWarhammer 40,000 and play games that you may notnormally be able to in your usual gaming environment. For this years event, we will be making full use of theCities of Death rules for some of the scenarios, so thatyou can truly experience what a hellish business fightingin a built up area can be. We will also be making use ofsome Apocalypse level scenarios as well in order to giveyou the opportunity to use as much of your collection aspossible.

For this event we are more relaxed about the schedule ofthe weekend. You can begin and finish your games whenyou are ready. However, there are some very importantexceptions to this:

    1. Play must start at the time specific on theschedule on each day.

    2. Play must finish at the time specified on theschedule on each day.

    3. You may not take any games over to the Sundayfrom Saturday.

However, please bear in mind that all gaming must stopat 10.30pm and the venue must be clear by 11.00pm.

POINTS TO REMEMBERPlease try to keep the playing area clear of excessclutter. Each table will be a pre-designed battlefield withfixed scenery; if you and your opponent are unhappywith the scenery layout you are allowed to rearrange thescenery in a mutually agreeable way. If you cannot agreeon this, raise your hand for a Referee who will ensure thelayout is fair but please understand that the Referee mayinsist you use the table as is. The event organisers willprovide no other games equipment and the players mustprovide all other materials. You must bring along a copyof the latest UK edition of the rules and expansions.

ARMY CONSTRUCTIONThis event requires that you have a flexible army that canbe broken down into smaller components to suit theconditions of Battle you will face across the weekend. With that in mind, you must provide legal army lists for:

Only the armies detailed in the Selecting an Armysection or the House Rules Document may be used in

    this event.

Anything requiring opponents consent may beconsidered as given for this event.

You may include up to 1/3 of your army as Alliedforces; they must have an HQ unit to lead them aswell as one Troops choice before you can add otherunits. You may do this for all of your army lists foreach of the scenarios. Please follow the Team Alliancestable for exactly who can go with who.

A 3,000 point Apocalypse army. You may use any ofthe Apocalypse Data Sheets currently available fromthe sources named in the Selecting an Army sectionfor this list only. This will form your Master Army fromwhich you will draw units to make up the otherrequired armies.

Using the 3,000 point Master Army as your pool ofresources, you must be able to create legal 2,000point , 1,500 point and 1,000 point armies using the

    standard Force organisation Chart.

The Smaller Forces must use complete units from theMaster Army. Units from Battle Formations in yourMaster Army may be used individually in your SmallerForces, as long as they are complete units.

A Forgeworld model or unit that appears in both anImperial Armour Book and an Apocalypse Book willonly use the Apocalypse version of the rules for theApocalypse game.

Special characters from army books may be used, subject to the restrictions detailed in their army book.

Super Heavy Vehicles and Gargantuan Creatures (orindeed anything with Structure Points) may only beused in the Master Army.

TEAM ALLIANCESEach Army may ally with only the races shown on the Alliances chart below. Simply cross-reference the races you wishto ally with. The following notations represent:

B = Battle Brothers Same race, so no problems.T = Trusted Allies no special rules, alliance is permitted.D = Distrustful Allies permitted, but allied units and characters within 6 of each other suffer a -1 Leadershippenalty (after other modifiers).X = Disallowed cannot ally under any circumstances.

ARMY ROSTERWhen you arrive at the event you must bring two legible, preferably typed copies of your Army Roster; one is forthe Referees to refer to, while the other is for you to useduring the event. We will be checking the rosters toensure that fair play is at work, so Referees may apply aPenalty for any rosters they feel are either incorrect orbelow the required standard for each of the games it wasused in. Please help us to help you by making themlegible! It must be presented in English, and contain thefollowing information:

Player Name, Ticket Number and Team name(where appropriate).

The name of the models used in your army, as well astheir points value.

Any extra equipment or special items must be clearlymarked along with their points cost.

The rosters must include all of the models in your

armies, their points values, the points values of anyequipment, and must specify which models are carryingany extra equipment or special items. Please put yourname and entry number on all copies of the roster.

WYSIWYGAn important principle in our events is what you see iswhat you get or WYSIWYG (pronounced wizzy-wig forshort). All this means is that unless you are using theCounts As rule (see below), then the miniatures usedare assumed to have their equipment actually shown onthe model.

COUNTS ASThe Counts As rule allows you to apply the rules forexisting units to older or scratch built models that do nothave rules of their own. If you decide to use the CountsAs rule, then you must:

    1. Prior to the event, contact the Event Manager anddiscuss which models you intend to use under theCounts As rule. The Event Manager may, at theirdiscretion, disallow any Counts As choice if they feel itis inappropriate or confusing.

    2. Before the tournament begins you must approach a

referee and notify them of your decision to use theCounts As rule. You must let them know what countsas what.

    3. The Referee may, at their discretion, disallow anyCounts As choice if they feel it is inappropriate orconfusing.

    4. Before each game starts you must tell your opponentthat you have decided to use the Counts As rule andyou must let them know what counts as what.

PAINTED ARMIESWarhammer 40,000 Battlefields is a fantastic opportunityto show off your hobby skills; while we arent looking forGolden Demon standard, we do have some pre-requisites, as stated in the Rules of Engagement. IfReferees see anything they consider to be inappropriateto the event, you will be required to follow theirinstructions in full. They may apply penalties where theysee fit. Examples of this include, but are not exclusive to:

Unpainted miniatures will be removed from play byReferees.

We dont allow the use of non-Citadel or non-Forgeworld miniatures for this event and any found

will be removed from play by Referees.

Conversions or Scratch-built models that areconsidered to be unsuitable by the Referees will beremoved from play.

SELECTING AN ARMYWarhammer 40,000 Battlefields allows you to makeuse of a wider range of source material for the gamesyou will play. Only the material mentioned on the listbelow will be used for this event. However, as thepurpose of the event is to have fun with Warhammer40,000; if you feel that theres something we shouldallow in, then you must contact us first in order todiscuss it.

    BEST ARMY AND USING

BOUGHT ARMIESAt every Tournament we give an award for the Best Army. This is awarded to the force that, in the opinion of both apanel of judges and the players, is the best in terms ofpainting and character. We do want to make sure that the Best Army award goes

to the player who painted their entire army themselves. For this reason youll be asked to indicate on the formthat comes with this pack whether you painted yourforces yourself, or if you got someone else to do it foryou. Judges may not select the players army for BestArmy voting if a player has declared that they did notpersonally paint their entire army. We ask all of thecontestants to remain honest in their declaration.

The way the Best Army award will be given works in twosteps:

The Judges pick a few forces for the Best Army vote onthe first day.

You will all be invited to vote for the Best Army on thesecond day of the Tournament. The most votes will winthe player the trophy. Entries will be judged in four areas:

    1. PREPARATION AND WORKMANSHIP - The entrymust not have obvious flaws such as flash, scratches, cracks, visible joints. Preparation is an area frequentlyoverlooked by many painters and is often the tiebreaking factor in a competition. It includes all pre-paint work that could be visible in or on the finishedproduct such as flashing lines and conversion/jointwork.

    2. BACKGROUND, ACCURACY AND CREATIVITY-

Entries will be judged based on the level of thematicelements the modeler has incorporated to enhancethe entry.

    3. PRESENTATION - Presentation includes all of theextra work done to the base(s) and figures. It willinclude basing detail and those added extra touchesthe entrant included that really set it apart from theother entries. Please note that display boards will notbe taken into account when judging this part of thecompetition.

    4. PAINTING SKILL - At a minimum, the entry shouldshow the modelers ability to paint neatly and "stayinside the lines." Entries that display the modelersability to paint and shade a variety of surfaces (flesh, metals, cloth, leather, fur) in a realistic manner will berewarded here. Painting covers all styles, from inkingto washes and dip, to highlighting and shading. Sincethere are so many techniques available for the painter, the judges will do their best to be open minded aboutthe techniques used, but in the end, it is all aboutaesthetics and the judges' call.

REFEREES & RULES QUERIESTHE MOST IMPORTANT RULEIf you encounter a rules problem during one of yourgames and cannot find the answer in the rulebook or anyother Games Workshop resource, for a quick resolution, and in order to avoid arguments, we recommend thatyou dice off to decide on a temporary answer and get on

    with your game.

REFEREESSometimes at the event you will seek to resolve a rulesquestion.
