Principal’s Message: November is a time of remembrance. We honour and remember those who died

for our freedom and on, All Saints Day and All Souls Day, we remember those who meant so much to us.

May our fondest memories of our lost loved ones bring us peace. We encourage all students to wear a pop-

py during this time. On Friday, November 11th at 10:45am we will be having a Remembrance Day assembly

in the gymnasium. Mrs. Patten’s Grade 8 class will be hosting the assembly. Parents and community mem-

bers of Mary Fix are welcome to join us in commemoration of those who fought and continue to fight for

our blessed country.

Progress reports will be going home Tuesday, November 15th with parent/teacher interviews to follow on

Thursday, November 17th. Please be sure to connect with your child(ren)’s teacher should you have any

questions or concerns. We look forward to the month ahead as we prepare for the Christmas season, the

season of giving.

PARENT INFORMATION

NO Dogs on School Property

For the safety of our students, parents, guardians and

staff please do not bring dogs on school property when

you are picking up or dropping off students. Thank you

for helping keep the school environment safe.

Attendance Please call the school if your child is going to

be absent. This is vital to ensure the safety of

your child. Automated Attendance Line:

(905) 270-3140, extension 1

Please provide your child’s name, grade,

teacher name and the reason for absence.

Progress Reports

On Tuesday, November 15th

students in Grades 1-8 will bring

home a Progress Report which is

designed to show a student’s development of

learning skills and work habits as well as a student’s

general progress in working towards the

achievement of curriculum expectations in all

subjects. The Progress report is not a formal report

card and parent /teacher/student interviews are not

mandatory. A Term 1 Report card will be sent home

in February and interviews will be conducted for all

students at that time.

Indoor Shoes

As boot weather approaches it is even more vital that each and every student keep a pair of shoes at school to change into before entering the classrooms and other common areas within the school such as the gym and library.

Sand and dirt from outside make the hallways slippery and unsafe for staff and students.

Winter Wear

As the colder weather begins, please ensure that your child comes to school prepared to participate in all activities, including outdoor recess. All children should have hats, scarves, gloves, warm coats and boots, all labeled with their names.

Snowpants keep children dry and warm on snowy or wet winter days and are highly recommended. It is also a great idea to keep a spare pair of socks in your child’s backpack.

Staying in for Recess

Throughout the school year, with cold temperatures, and so

many students either recovering from, or off ill because of

colds, the flu etc., we receive numerous requests to allow

children to remain indoors during recesses. Please note

that we cannot comply, as we have neither the facilities nor

the staff to supervise these students. If your child is too ill

to go outside for recess, then he/she is too ill to be at

school. Moreover, health officials indicate that the fresh air

is good for children as long as they are dressed

appropriately.

On extremely cold days, we limit the amount of time the

students spend out of doors. We obtain our weather

information from the Environment Canada Weather

Information Line and follow Board guidelines.

SANTA PHOTO OPPORTUNITY…

This year Christmas comes early with

the opportunity to have your children

take photos with Santa. Santa will be

visiting the school on Monday,

November 21st in the morning to take

photos. A professional photographer from Edge Imaging

will be here to take photos. The cost is $5 per sitting for

4 copies. Please bring money on the 21st ONLY. We will

not be doing a pre-collection. Siblings and group shots

are welcome. All proceeds will go towards supporting

our families in need during the Christmas season.

Allergy Alert

We have some students with

serious life-threatening allergies

to peanuts, tree nuts and associated products. For

the safety of all children it is vital that items

containing these dangerous allergens are not

sent to school. If your child is celebrating a

birthday please do not send any food treats.

Alternative non-food items are always acceptable

(ie. pencils, stickers…)

If other severe allergies are identified in your

child’s classroom, you will be notified. In

addition, a sign is posted at the entrance to the

classroom identifying the allergies.

ADVERTISEMENTS & FLYERS

Throughout the school year companies pass on packages of flyers for us to distribute for advertisement. We are doing our best to be an ECO friendly school and save some trees. This also alleviates additional papers coming home. At this time we will happily advertise these companies and activities, but through our school website. You will find the listing under PARENTS. This list is updated as we receive the Board approved flyers. Should you require a paper copy please notify the office.

Congratulations to all the classes who participated in Walk to School Week. We had a great amount of support. Teachers tracked their daily walkers. Students who walked to school on Wednesday, October 12th were given pencils, tattoos, stickers and swag to acknowledge their efforts in walking. Keep up the great work!

Congratulations to Mr. Chornous’ grade 6 class who won the Golden Running Shoe Award for having the most students participate during I WALK WEEK during the first week of October.

Our ECO team continues to encourage students to recycle, use the Goose Paper Bins in their class-rooms, turn off the lights when no in the room and walk/wheel to school.

Well done Mary Fix!

A Message From Our Catholic School Council…

During the month of October students made a great effort to fund raise for our school. World’s Finest

Chocolate sales were a success and we have currently raised approximately $4200. We will have an exact

number once all unreturned boxes and money are collected. If you have not yet submitted unsold choco-

late or money please do so as the deadline is now passed. Congratulations to Matteo and Victoria D. who

were our first two students to sell a full box, each receiving a year’s worth of discount coupons. Our top

sellers were Milana & Matteo P. who sold eight boxes. They received a $50 gift card to Best Buy & $50 gift

card to Indigo. Lucas C. and Joshua T. sold three each. These students were awarded with five pound bars

of chocolate. We thank you for all your support and generosity. You will see these funds put back into our

school initiatives and student learning. A special thanks to Mrs. Blank and Mrs. Brum who helped organize

and run the fundraising for this month. We look forward to seeing you at our next Council meeting on

November 23rd at 6:30pm in the library. All are welcome. At this meeting we will be organizing our

Christmas basket drive and Angel Tree.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming

to Mary Fix and you are invited to

come and share in this celebration

of literacy with us!

Now more than ever, reading is vital to

leading a better life. Knowing how to read

is just the beginning. Motivating young

people to keep reading, comprehend what

they read and develop the ability to think

creatively are the end goals.

Scholastic Book Fairs has the books to

motivate more reading. With your

involvement, we can inspire children to

practice reading and read more often.

Together, we can make a difference in

their lives that will last a lifetime and

achieve our goal of putting a book in

every student’s hands. Book Fairs are a

great way to raise money for our library.

We have been able to top up our library

books, order furniture, computer head sets

and other items from money earned

through the sales of our Book Fair.

The Book Fair will be held from

Thursday, November 17th until Tuesday,

November 23rd during school hours. The

Book Fair will be open during our Parent

Teacher Interview Evening. We

encourage you and your family to visit

www.scholastic.ca/bookfairs for a preview

of all the exciting books found in our book

fair. Students will be able to have an

opportunity to view the fair before

purchasing to create a wish list. We look

forward to seeing you there.

Farewell and best of luck to our NPU

Officer : Constable Mooken who has been

an active member in our school communi-

ty for over the past 2 years. He will be

missed and we thank him for all his support at Mary Fix. We

wish you the best of luck and may God keep you safe! We

welcome Con-

stable Zoe Brown

who is our newly

appointed NPU.

PED Policy

Students in grades 6 to 8 are permitted to bring

PED’s to school for educational purposes, as

directed by the classroom teacher only. Some

teachers may allow students to use their devices to assist with

classroom activities or assignments. For these examples, PED’s

are permitted. Conversations about digital citizenship are

important and students are encouraged to be responsible when

using them. All Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) NOT being

used for educational purposes must be kept out of sight, turned off

and not used within school premises or during school-sanctioned

activities such as retreats, field trips, sports events, recess breaks,

etc. To prevent the loss or damage of PEDs, we encourage

students to take responsibility for them and follow the usage rules.

The school will not be responsible for any damaged, lost or

stolen PED’s. These devices are not mandatory for learning.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in the confiscation of

the PED and/or disciplinary action as outlined in the Catholic Code

of Conduct.

Conscience

‘What the law requires is written on

their hearts, to which their own con-

science also bears witness. Their con-

flicting thoughts will accuse or perhaps

excuse them on the day, when, accord-

ing to my gospel, God through Jesus

Christ, will judge the secret thoughts of

all.” Romans 2:15-16

Our Daily Prayer for November

Let us now pray for the grace and

strength to be people of conscience—

people who know the good and decent

way to act, and then choose to act that

way. AMEN

As always our ShareLife Halloweek was

a great success. We are not short of school spirit

here at Mary Fix. Students participated in various

initiatives such as Halloween Hat & Hair Day,

Orange & Black Day, Dress as Your Favourite Super

Hero, Sports Day and finally PJ day. We also had a

draw for two students to win a free lunch at Wen-

dy’s with Mrs. Kivell and Mrs. Duke. Congratulations

to: ***** We have since raised over $575.00. Way

to go Mary Fix!!

HALLOWEEN

Halloween is always a fun event at Mary Fix.

Students from all grades participated in fun

activities and many wore their costumes.

Classrooms competed in the annual Halloween

Door Decorating Contest and this year’s theme

was: Strange Things This Way Comes. Our

winner this year was: Mrs. Nucci & Mrs.

Gaudencio’s FDK Class. Second Place was

Mrs. Patten’s Gr 8’s and third was

Mrs. Telfeyan’s Gr 4/5 Class. Our School

Council funds supported the cost of a DJ at our

dance and all students were given the

opportunity to Monster Mash! Our Treat Sale

was a great success and all money raised goes

directly in to purchasing gift cards for our

Christmas baskets that support families in

need this season. We are much appreciative

for all those who made donations to the treat

sale. Your generosity is amazing! We raised

over $411.00 Way to go!! A special thanks to

our parent volunteers who helped out!
