Quirindi High School, student excellence, was further demonstrated by Lexi Bernard who spoke with the Rotarians about her exchange to Norway in 2013. It was wonderful to hear of the great experiences Lexi had and a tribute to her skill as a public speaker as she kept the whole group enthralled throughout her speech. Lexi has been invited by Ms Clarke to reprise her speech at our next Formal assembly so that our students are also able to appreciate the exchange experience. Thank you to the Quirindi Rotary Club for their continued support of youth exchange in our region, it provides a wonderful experience for all of our students whether they travel on exchange themselves or simply have the benefit of forming friendships with students who attend our school when they are on exchange. The foreign flavour at Quirindi High School continues next week when we will play host to 21 Swiss students from Monday through to Thursday morning. The students will experience a number of unique Australian country experiences during their short stay with us, one of them being the opportunity to attend a whole school social on Tuesday night. Students who are not on a behaviour or uniform level are encouraged to come along and help celebrate all things “Aussie”. We will be having a BBQ at 6.30pm half an hour prior to the beginning of the social to get the celebrations in the mood of our Australian traditions. Plans for our European trip in September are well underway with students now participating in fundraising activities to assist in reducing the cost to individuals. Currently the students are conducting an Easter egg raffle. Tickets can be purchased from individual students at school and throughout our local community. My Australian Story - Kokoda By Alan Tucker

In his diary, Archie records his own battles at home, against the local bully Beefy; how Townsville copes as it becomes a base for the Pacific campaign; and the Australian east coast reels under Japanese bombs. Archie's two brothers are fighting in the battlefield of World War II. There is nothing between Australia and a Japanese invasion except a small band of brave soldiers, fighting rain, mud, malaria and machine guns.

WANTED ABORIGINAL FOSTER CARERS

TAACS Ph. 67613436 Or call into the office and enquire

8 Darling St, Tamworth NSW 2340

WHO CAN FOSTER ABORIGINAL CHILDREN?

To become an Aboriginal foster carer you must have the maturity to provide care to Aboriginal children & young people.

Single people, couples, families with or without children of your own can be foster carers.

You do not need to own your home, but have enough room for a foster child or young person.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A FOSTER CARER:

• Loving

• Socially and Community Minded

• Resourceful

• Good Listener, Communicator and mediator

• Patient

• Open Minded & Understanding

• Good Role Model

• Positive Outlook

WHY DO WE NEED ABORIGNAL FOSTER CARERS?

Aboriginal children make up a very large proportion of children in care.

Tamworth & Armidale Aboriginal Children’s Services (TAACS) is very keen to engage more Aboriginal carers to prevent our kids from being separated from their communities and families.

Sadly there are not enough authorised Aboriginal foster carers for the number of Aboriginal children in care.

THAT’S WHY ABORIGINAL FOSTER CARERS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED!

QUIRINDI HIGH SCHOOL

TAS Footwear Policy

1. Purpose

The TAS department at Quirindi High School adhere to strict Work, Health and Safety (WH&S Act, 2011) procedures to ensure the safety of all students, staff and visitors to our school. All students are expected to wear the correct uniform and appropriate footwear at all times in practical TAS classroom environments.

2. Guidelines 2.1 The TAS Footwear policy will be determined by the Principal, TAS Head Teacher, TAS teachers

in conjunction with the school Quirindi High School Uniform Policy. 2.2 The TAS Footwear policy will be enforced by the Principal, Head Teacher TAS, TAS Teachers,

and P & C. 2.3 In the event students are unable to acquire the appropriate footwear, the school can provide

such items upon request to TAS Head Teacher and/or TAS Teachers. 2.4 Information regarding the standard of footwear and consequences must be provided to parents

regularly to ensure their understanding of this policy. This will be achieved through publication in the yearly student elective choices booklet, each term in the school newsletter and documented on the school website.

3. School Procedures 3.1 This policy is aligned to the Quirindi High School Uniform Policy with explicit instructions

specifically related to the Technology and Applied Studies key learning areas. 3.2 Parents will receive a copy of the TAS faculty policy at the beginning of each term. 3.3 Students will receive explicit instructions regarding appropriate footwear as part of their WH&S

induction into each TAS subject. 3.4 If students fail to wear appropriate footwear for a practical lesson due to an emergency situation,

a pair of appropriate emergency shoes will be available for students to wear during the lesson. 3.5 If a student fails to comply with wearing shoes provided for them for 2 consecutive practical

lessons, the student will be referred to the Welfare/LST by their TAS teacher due to the inability for a student to participate in practical lesson; which will affect learning outcomes for the course.

3.6 Upon referral contact will be made to parents by the TAS Head Teacher to determine if assistance is required for the acquisition of appropriate footwear for practical lessons. The outcome of this parental contact will be communicated through the referral notification.

3.7 If a student continues to refuse to wear appropriate footwear for practical classes, they will be referred to the Head Teacher TAS for further action aligned to the school’s Disciplinary procedures.
