It is so easy to get buried in the sometimes Herculean demands of operating a business. We are fortunate that our national organization offers education to help us remain compliant with licensing requirements. On the Chapter level, your leadership is researching the needs of our members and the opportunities in the local market to find education that is both interesting and relevant. This past year has been a year of learning for us all. If you want to know about Chapter government, I challenge you to join us in leadership. I can promise you it is a very rewarding and sometimes, daunting experience. I have a much better understanding of what is required after a year at the helm. Being President does demand a significant investment of time. However, I believe the Chapter will benefit next year from the continuity of leadership allowing us to concentrate more fully upon education. Installation Ceremony Scott Tenhet, Reba Pepper, John Thomas, Mike Brooks and Smiley Ratcliff Your Chapter's Officers and Board of Directors are committed to serving you. Our general goals for 2017 are to continue to lobby the interests of appraisers regarding legislation affecting our industry; to offer broader and more frequent networking opportunities to our membership; and finally, to provide quality, timely and geographically specific education enabling our members to upgrade their skills and expand their market. To accomplish these goals, we must have your assistance. I will be contacting several of you at the beginning of the new year regarding our various needs. But don’t wait on me. If you have an interest in a specific area or a burning desire to serve, call me. We would be delighted to put you to work! Summer Meeting

June 6, 2016, Louisville, MS Good food, good friends and an excellent instructor. That's howone MAI characterized the 2016 Summer Meeting. Lake TiakO'Khata in Louisville hosted the annual gathering and TedWhitmer in his inimitable style presented his "Staying Out ofTrouble" (and perhaps jail) seminar. Twentythree brighteyedand eager students (both members and nonmembers) satunder the tutelage of Ted and benefitted from his vast array ofappraisal and litigation knowledge. During the lunch break,Chapter elections for 2017 were held. Members unanimouslyelected J. Scott Tenhet, MAI, as President for 2017. Walter"Chip" Gibbes, MAI will assume the VicePresident's position. Darrell Bullock, MAI was elected as Secretary and John Fiser,MAI will serve as Treasurer. Harvey R. Little, MAI, who has beenacting as interim Vice President, was approved to complete the remainder of the 2016 term.Following the afternoon session of the seminar, the President welcomed guests at a receptionwith appetizers and drinks. The evening concluded with a delicious prime rib buffet dinner. Thisyear's Summer Meeting was an abbreviated version of past meetings and lasted only one day.
