Amitav Ghosh (born July 11, 1956[1]), isa Bengali Indian author
best known for his work inthe English language.Work[edit]
Ghosh is the author ofThe Circle of Reason(his 1986debut
novel),The Shadow Lines(1988),The CalcuttaChromosome(1995),The
Glass Palace(2000),The
Hungry Tide(2004), andSea of Poppies(2008), the
first volume ofThe Ibis trilogy, set in the 1830s, justbefore
the Opium War, which encapsulates the colonialhistory of the East.
Ghosh's latest work of fictionisRiver of Smoke(2011), the second
volume ofThe
Ibis trilogy.The Circle of Reason won the Prix Mdicis tranger,
one of France's top literary awards.[5]The Shadow
Lines won the Sahitya Akademi Award & the Ananda
Puraskar.[6][7]The Calcutta Chromosome wonthe Arthur C. Clarke
Award for 1997.[8]Sea of Poppies was shortlisted for the 2008 Man
Booker Prize.[9]Itwas the co-winner of the Vodafone Crossword Book
Award in 2009, as well as co-winner of the 2010 DanDavid Prize.[10]
River of Smoke was shortlisted forMan Asian Literary Prize
2011.Ghosh famously withdrew his novelThe Glass Palacefrom
consideration forCommonwealth Writers'
Prize, where it had been awarded the Best Novel in Eurasian
section, citing his objections to the term"Commonwealth" and the
unfairness of the English-language requirement specified in
therules.[11]Subsequently, he landed in controversy over his
acceptance of the Israeli literary award, the $1million dollar Dan
David Prize.[12]
Ghosh's most notable non-fiction writings areIn anAntique

is an Indian author andpolitical activistwho is bestknown for

andhumanrightscauses. Roys novel became the biggest-selling
book by a nonexpatriate Indian author.Early life and

Arundhati Roy was born inShillong, Meghalaya,

to Ranjit Roy, aBengaliHindutea planter andMary Roy,
aMalayaliSyrian Christianwomen'srights activist.She spent her
childhood inAymanamin Kerala, and went to school atCorpus
Christi,Kottayam, followed
by theLawrence School, Lovedale, in Nilgiris,Tamil Nadu. She
then studied architecture at theSchool ofPlanning and Architecture,
Delhi, where she met her first husband, architect Gerard da
Cunha.Roy met her second husband, filmmakerPradip Krishen, in 1984,
and played a village girl in his award-winning movieMassey
Sahib.[3]Until made financially secure by the success of her
novelThe God of SmallThings, she worked various jobs, including
running aerobics classes at five-star hotels in New Delhi. Roy
isthe niece of prominent media personalityPrannoy Roy, the head of

Vikram Seth; born 20 June 1952) is anIndiannovelist and poet. He
haswritten several novel and poetry books. He has also received
several awardsincludingPadma Shri,Pravasi Bharatiya Samman,WH Smith
LiteraryAwardandCrossword Book Award.
Literary work[edit]
Poetry [edit]Seth has published five volumes of poetry. His
first,Mappings (1980), wasoriginally privately published; it
attracted little attention and indeedPhilip
Larkin, to whom he sent it for comment, referred to it
scornfully among hisintimates, though he offered Seth
encouragement.[7]In 2009 Seth contributed four poems toOxfamwhich
are used asintroductions to each of the four collections of UK
stories which formOxfam's 'Ox-Tales' book project.[11]

Shashi Tharoor(Malayalam:,Hindi:) (born 9 March1956) is
