Cloud is more and more the future, pushing aside the

choice and hesitation

The market over the last five years

SD-WAN – an innovation

PAST

For 35yrs+, Corporate Networking was all about physical, discreet, private

networks. Control was driven by the center, with a common architecture and

set of policies.

Networking as we’ve known it, and how we see it changing

PRESENT

The increased uptake of Public Based networking with the Internet becoming

a trusted means of Corporate Enterprise access. Control of these networks can

now be controlled at an application rather than physical layer. Network now seen as a Service, much more dynamic

and responsive “On & Off-able”.

FUTURE

On the horizon the impact of 5G will accelerate this

change, at least complementing if not replacing traditional physical networks.

1. User Experience

HOW WHY

• Massive Adoption of Cloud Based Services• Networks must now evolve in order to

accommodate Publicly-Hosted Applications• Not All Applications Are Born Equal: greater need to

be able to profile, prioritize and optimize the delivery based on time-sensitivity and End User Expectations

• SD-WAN Application Defined Routing: in itself isn’t new, what’s changed is the speed and relative easeof being able to manage these changes dynamically

• User experience is key to all our success• OCM plays a large part of deployment strategy

quality needs to complement this investment• Where network is de-scoped we make network tests

and reporting mandatory• Example where UC delivered on a poor network

Page 8: 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready…€¦ · 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready ... networking with the Internet becoming a trusted means of Corporate

2. High Availability

HOW WHY

• Greater complexity at the Application layerdemands greater sophistication at the Networking layer

• Demand for bandwidth drives the need to make best use of all available access; Local Internet, Broadband, MPLS & 4G

• Bring all your resources together, utilise them to best effect by optimising traffic routing and managing congestion

• SD-WAN – can support multiple means of access and route traffic in an Active/Active mode

• All about dial tone• Voice is key and touches most people within

the business• People expect robust Voice services• Mobile as a backup• Example: Contact Center

Page 9: 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready…€¦ · 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready ... networking with the Internet becoming a trusted means of Corporate

3. Determine in real-time

HOW WHY

• More real Time Control : Use Real Time Traffic Analysis to identify and mitigate bandwidth bottlenecks in real-time

• Strong market push to integrated UC services –Video Rooms, Broadcast, remote working

• Promotion of desktop video leads to bandwidth spikes, benefits in monitoring and foresight

• UC services impact on bandwidth• Healthy network leads to User Experience

Central Orchestrator

Page 10: 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready…€¦ · 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready ... networking with the Internet becoming a trusted means of Corporate

4. Offload local, non central

HOW WHY

• Companies (with a few exceptions) will have a hybrid environment of Private & Public networks

• The exam question is therefore how you make best use of both resources – to define the Optimal Route by traffic type

• Traffic that is local can stay local. Traffic that is global can be carried over your global MPLS network

• This optimises performance and maximises the efficiency of your available resources

• UC touches mobile, handset, VC rooms and desktops or home internet connections

• In a Cloud Voice perspective, local break is an option but not ideal, always go for centralized Voice breakout

• A distributed network suits UC• Local breakout to internet where possible

Page 11: 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready…€¦ · 5 things you need to get your network UCaaS ready ... networking with the Internet becoming a trusted means of Corporate

5. Security

HOW WHY

• Centralized control and deployment also applies to Security

• Policies are set centrally in doing so simplifying the complexity associated with management configuration and orchestration of WANs

• As with traffic routing, policies can be defined at the branch level relative to site profile

• Solutions will also provide an end to end encryption tunnel which

• Network Security is a building block of wider UC security message

• Cloud services are encrypted end to end• Network security to give you peace of mind• New security considerations with Cloud - Device

encryption, security, BYOD, Information Rights Management.
